Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Not that any of your DDs need to worry about this but my geriatric ladies awed by silk pillowcases to prevent wrinkles on your face.

Another second for silk pillow cases. And yes, mine go in the washer and dryer!

@palm715 Be sure to put a fan on your list. Those older dorms (with radiator steam heat) are warm in winter too.

Is bamboo fiber bedding and pillow cases considered ā€œcoolingā€?

I don’t know if it’s cooling, but bamboo is all my niece will use. She lives in an apartment that is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. She also swears by the softness.

Going to confess- took a peek at DS’s speech for graduation. Felt guilty but, so glad I did, otherwise I would have been a blubbering idiot in public (instead of in my own bathroom) :((

I’m a little behind here but

regarding printers: D15 didn’t want to take one. Her school didn’t allow wireless and she figured she would print at the library or computer center.

regarding laundry: D15 was complaining yesterday that my laundry system at home is so complicated, what with separating the whites from the darks. Her system at school apparently involves one load of everything mixed together

regarding thanksgiving; I’m so torn. My niece is getting married the first weekend in Nov. in the city D16 is going to college and we will be going out for that. It seems silly to pay to fly her home when we will have just seen her a couple weeks before and we will see her for Christmas a couple weeks after. Plus her grandmother, uncle, and tons of cousins are local so she has a place to go. DH says none of that matters and if she wants to come home we should fly her home.

Graduation fears: 624 students, 21 valedictorians and kids have to be there seated at 6:45 AM.

Graduation over: no outside speakers, no valedictorian speeches and complete in one hour and 45 minutes and only negative was they couldn’t say our last name correctly.

6:45 am- wow! that’s early @dadoftwingirls - sorry they didn’t get your name right!

My D16 has five more days of school, then finals, then graduation, with orientation stuffed in there between two graduation rehearsals. She also still has a project assigned in the 3rd quarter that she hasn’t really started, two tests this week, another project to finish up and has to to take two placement tests by the end of this weekend. Oh, and prom on Saturday. I’m glad she spent about 2 hours of the three day weekend on actual schoolwork. I think I’ll just set this last report card on fire without opening it.

The school strongly recommended studying for the math placement test. The review packet is 120+ pages long. There is no way. Hopefully she will at least place into College Algebra and not have to take some remedial class at CC this summer.

I keep wanting to buy things for the dorm and then I remember that we’re flying 1,700 miles. I know that stores can hold stuff, but I doubt that they will do so for two months so I need to back off for awhile. On the other hand, we’re flying Southwest, so maybe all four of us can bring a second free checked bag packed with bedding, towels, etc.

@dadoftwingirls (Double)Congrats on graduation although it stinks they mispronounced their names. And that’s a fast graduation. Ours is expected to last a good 2.5 with only about 300 grads

Congrats @dadoftwingirls . My son has a very unusual family middle name. We’ve had no less than 4 calls from the school
to ask how to pronounce his name. I understand the frustration.

Found out 2 weeks ago that my sister in law and niece were not be going to attend DS16’s graduation because my niece has to have surgery then we found out last night that my other sister in law and niece will be unable to attend because my BIL will be having a heart cath that morning. So it will be just DH, DS19, a neighbor and me in attendance on Thurs. Then party time on Friday and off to Disney on Sunday.

At least they have valid reasons (I have a friend whose whole father’s side won’t show up because she is not graduating with distinction or honors and they live in the next town over.) @carolinamom2boys although it’s still disappointing. The only people at graduation for us with be our parents, our maternal grandfather, possibly his ā€œlady friendā€ and a great aunt. Unfortunately one of my favorite great aunts who is also my namesake is unable to come because her husband doesn’t get out of the house anymore due to health issues. And the other grandfather lives in GA and can’t travel. I’m grateful for those who can attend but at the same time I’m slightly jealous of my friends who have their whole families coming to watch.

@carolinamom2boys : Let us know what time to stand and clap. There will be thunderous applause from Bangor to San Diego, from the Keys to Anchorage.

To your son!

10:00 AM Thurs morning

Got it, @carolinamom2boys. Don’t be frightened by the rumble.

The reminder is on the calendar for 10am Thursday @carolinamom2boys. We only had DD, DH, maternal grandparents, GF and I at graduation but it was plenty. Venue was packed.

Thx @Cheeringsection . No living grandparents , just us. It will be a good day.

I’ll be clapping from work, @carolinamom2boys !

D apparently got her portal for school a week ago, but neglected to check her email…and naturally it doesn’t work, but she’s contacted the appropriate person to get it fixed. We went to the party store and got the last couple of things for the grad party. It’s not till the 18th, but we wanted to get it out of the way before next week’s crazy schedule.

H found a whole bunch of mini discs from an old video camera we had and we’ve spent the evening watching them. It was hard not to tear up watching 9 and 10 yo D singing, dancing, and we even found the one where she gave a tour of our new house the day we moved in! She sounded like a proper realtor-it was the cutest thing.

Thanks @sseamom . Those discs were a great find .
