That is just horrible. Two people just been shot at UCLA engineering building. So close to home.
@palm715 - which state are you from? I was trying to figure out her financial safety from your list and couldnāt draw any conclusions.
@Ballerina2016, oh no, that is horrible!
@texaspg Wasnāt it Temple vs Northeastern? They are in Hawaii I think.
The coops should help her earn money towards school @Palm715
@mommdc - I was thinking Stevens vs Temple.
It was Temple. She could have received a fine education, lived in an interesting city, enjoyed the best housing and food available, not worked, and smelled like anything her heart desired. Despite all that, we are thrilled for Northeastern!! Plus, as luck would have it, she naturally smells very nice.
I would have sprung for the mini perfume, too, @palm715. Itās good that she is being cost conscious, but a rare occasional splurge seems appropriate, too.
Dās last day of classes today.
She came home and I played Roy Orbisonās āItās Overā for her just to be silly, :D.
And then we found some of the lyrics were not really appropriate for the situation, but⦠ITāS OVER.
High school, anyway!
Still have tomorrowās ceremony to make it all official.
So there are still exactly 3 weeks until graduation here but itās feeling more real. Last student council meeting- yes I cried, followed by cap/gown and yearbook pick up. I feel old
My newest realization is that Iāll have a child in college for at least the next 7 years. Kind of reminds me of when friends and I used to calculate how long weād had a child in diapersā¦except itās a much longer timeframe. And more expensive. Ha!
Weāre in for at least 8 years! Four of those weāll have two in at the same time. Of course this doesnāt include grad school!
@PAO2008, I think if you are willing to spring for TSA PreCheck, might as well pay another $15 and get Global Entry, which speeds re-entry into the US after traveling internationally. I have been surprised at all the options for all the kids my S13 knows who have had opportunities to travel internationally. This is something that seems very different than when I was in college (ahem) thirty years ago.
@palm715 definitely lives in Hawaii. Thatās why she hosted our party on May 1st. So glad she bought D that perfume, though everything is more expensive in the Aloha State. Good news about buying a small sizeāless than 3 ozāPalmKid can take it in her carry on.
We will have a child in college until 2025. 2025!!
6 years down (2 with 2 in) and 4 to go! We got this!
Getting everything ready for tomorrow. We have to be at the venue by 9:00 am. Just ironed the gown, the shirt , pants, NHS stole, gathered the summa cum Laude medallion, science and beta club cords, placed mortar board , tassel and tickets by the door . I think Iām physically ready , not sure about mentally and emotionally ready . I looked at my grad countdown clock and itās down to hours instead of days. It comes quickly . Are we ever really ready ?
@palm715 we are in the same boat. D16 passed up our state schools where she may have been paid to attend , for a huge financial reach. She got some great aid however. Most of our contribution is her living expenses. The fist year is covered and we will need loans for the rest of the three years. Possibly out of our retirement. This is all with the understanding they will be loans and hers to pay back. We will not pay for grad school since she has chosen such an expensive undergrad experience. Iām not sure the financial weight has hit her quite yet as she is seventeen and has no care in the world as far as paying for things. She will have stipend this summer to help with personal expenses. Yesterday she and her sister were telling me all about how they would be traveling to Belize next year. I was enthusiastic and said great! Iām not paying for it. Her face fell and she decided to start looking for her on campus job.
Good luck at @carolinamom2boys <:-P
Thanks @readingclaygirl
Iāll be thinking of you tomorrow, @carolinamom2boys !
D also chose a more expensive option than other choices she had, though it wonāt mean we need to take out loans. Weāll all be stretched tighter than otherwise, though. D is carefully banking all the random checks people at her church have been handing her, and looking sadly at the make up store and the shoes in her favorite shops, but she knows sheāll need to watch her bank balance over the next 4 years.
She spent tonight working on her final presentation for all of middle and HS. She had to include a photo on why she chose her topic (teaching STEM in lower-income schools) and she found one from when she was teaching at summer camp as a 7th grader. It was perfect.
Good luck today @carolinamom2boys Hope the graduation goes well.
Thanks everone for the congrats on my Dās job.
Thanks @sseamom and @me29034 . Iāll post when we are done. Congrats on your daughterās job , too @me29034 .
Enjoy every minute @carolinamom2boys !
