Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@palm715 and @Cheeringsection thanks for keeping things in perspective.

On a positive note we’ll get to see him two weeks after we drop him off, and then a long stretch until Columbus Day weekend. I’ll have to try and remember by Skype password in the interim

@dbjs70 are you going to see your son Columbus day and parents’ weekend, which is the following weekend? We’re only planning on parents, but we are 400 miles away. We’re dropping our son for one of the pre-orientation programs and aren’t planning on staying for the parent orientation. We have an older daughter and we’ve been through the drill before (at a different school). My son doesn’t seem to care if we come back for orientation. Maybe it would be different if it was 2 weeks later, instead of requiring a full week off from work.

I am done with high school classes! It was emotional

Congrats @readingclaygirl !

Congrats @readingclaygirl

Did I miss a discussion on vaccinations? Our college requires 2 chicken pox vaccinations. My kids each had 1 and then managed to get the chicken pox before there was a booster. Now I have to get lab work done to prove they are immune to chicken pox. Anyone have any idea if insurance is going to pay for this?

Thank you @psychmomma @carolinamom2boys

Lab work is probably more expensive than the shot @MuggleMom . Can you just get the shot ?

@carolinamom2boys Great minds think alike. I thought exactly the same thing. The doc won’t give them the shot if they’ve already had the disease. Oh well.

Can the school give it @MuggleMom

@sseamom how does your daughter feel about having this new room mate she wasn’t expecting? I sometimes think when things don’t work out the way you’d planned or foreseen it was obviously not meant to be and will probably be for the best. If the other girl hadn’t managed to get her paperwork in on time for something as simple as housing then maybe her disorganisation actually is a blessing in disguise.

@dbjs70 and @Cheeringsection what keeps me going is how exciting this is going to be for my S and what a huge opportunity he has and how much fun it will be! Maybe I’m in denial, but have decided once he’s actually gone then I’ll have to face the emotions full on, but for now he’ll be a better person for going away to College. I hope!

@zimmum Shhe met the “new” roomie in April and they got along. Both serious about studies, though I’m not sure of her major. D feels it will all work out, but she and the first one had talked about so much more than just rooming together, so it will take some getting used to. Her story is that she filled out all the parts of the paperwork she could and gave it all to her mom to sign off and write the check, and that’s where things fell apart. She never followed up with her mom. She will still get a room, just one of whatever is left with whoever is also late in filling things out.

We are down to a <24 hour countdown on D’s chalkboard grad cap that is hanging on her door. Tomorrow is all about her-chocolate-dipped fruit at breakfast, her favorite mac and cheese (from a local restaurant’s recipe) and an appointment for a facial mid-morning. Then we’ll relax until it’a time to hit the road at 3:30. We have to be there an hour early (well, D does) and it’s an hour away. H went out and bought her a double lei after she decided she liked them after all (she had said she didn’t want one). We’re as ready as we can be.

Tomorrow is DD graduation. We just finished decorating her cap. It brought back memories of many years gluing Swarovski on her leotards. It was fun working together.

@sseamom shame ok, yup in that case it’s a bit of a disappointment to not bee roomed with the other girl esp if they were getting on so well. I hope it turns out ok for her with the newly assigned girl. I’ve just suggested to my S to buy himself a really good pair of earphones so if the need arises he can shut himself off or block out unwanted noise

Good luck with the graduation sounds exciting!

@sseamom, that’s too bad about the missed paperwork, but surely they can still talk and be friends, maybe they will even be on the same floor. Anyway, it sounds like the new rommate might work out well even if they don’t become best friends.

About the chicken pox vaccine. I would call insurance to see if they would pay for a titer since it’s required by the school to either get a booster or have proof of having the illness.

Happy Saturday everyone! Congrats to those graduating today!!

All the freshmen girls live in the same dorm, and it’s a small school, so I’m sure D and her original roommate will see each other. The kids have a very active group chat so they all already plan to hang out once they’re in school. One they did that D is finding really useful is a Twitter where new students ask questions of current ones. D has learned a lot that isn’t found anywhere official.

Graduation was earlier this week. I’m glad to be done. In a good way. Ready for the next adventure!

Congrats @Midwest67
