The leftover pizza I have for lunch in the office frig now sounds about as appealing as eating paste. Haha, I guess I asked for it, @sseamom!
Embrace your inner child @palm715 . Paste was a delicacy when you were 5 .
Good luck on your tests @readingclaygirl & enjoy graduation!
@bookmom7 Thanks! It is just one test. No idea why NY makes regents plural but they do. Apparently Regent is a personâs title!
@CAMidwestMom : â@Waiting2exhale is that movie streaming somewhere?â
Sorry, just saw this.
I called my cable provider and asked how to use the âon the goâ services,â and found it there, with HBO. I must give the young man who helped me wade through the jumble of boxes to check, and filters to keep in place or remove, a hand. He never got flustered.
The internship debacle continues. The city department in charge is throwing the organization D applied to under the bus, the guy who originally recruited D has quit that agency (which is why nothing got sent to her in time) but their story is that if he hadnât quit, he might not have been their much longer. The president of the organization âneedsâ D to start the last week of June, as they have a project for her, but the city department tasked with payment, background checks, etc. says that certainly no later than mid-JULY. H is in government communications for a living. He has written an email and copied people. âYou wonât like him when heâs angryâ.
Stay tuned.
On another note-if you did not know that Target not only offers a college registry but allows you to go into the store and use a scanner that logs things into your registry in a very seamless way-well, now you do. Thanks to a tip, D and I learned about this option today and since we were in the mall across the street at the time, went over where D scanned everything that didnât move (yes, she had a toy scanner as a kid). This will serve as a great list to work form, even if we buy the stuff elsewhere, and apparently you get a coupon for 15% off for using the registry. We had fun.
Tonight D goes to the graduation of two boys she met on her group college tour last year. There were only 4 students and theyâve remained very close. Then tomorrow she watches one of her oldest and closest friends graduate. What a busy time!
My sister graduated BOCES with Honors and Distinction and won $725 in awards! So proud
Congrats to your sister @readingclaygirl
Thank you @carolinamom2boys
Wow- great accomplishments @readingclaygirl - I know you are proud!!
Thank you @bookmom7
@carolinamom2boys - I studied Russian in college, its was not overwhelmingly hard, in fact lots of cross over words from french and german. Of course today, 25 years later, I can hardly remember much of it. Husband tried Arabic in collegeâŠhe said it was very hard. FYI, back in the day, it was my intention to work for the government, my Dad, who worked on nuclear projects for Goodyear, had super top security clearance was told that I should not/would not be allowed to travel abroad to Russia or Eastern Europe and hope to get a job post grad. Although this was pre-fall of the Berlin wall and I suspect it had more to do with protecting my Dadâs security clearance than actually being advice meant to further my career ambitions. But at any rate your son may want to fully consider the ramifications of travel destinations choices while in college.
Congratulations to you and your sister @readingclaygirl !
We continue to deal with red tape around the summer job here as well. DS was told yesterday that the internal paperwork should all be done by 6/29! He may get to work for 6 weeks. I take this as our cue to get that dorm mountain done.
I have located a helpful CVS pharmacist that has obtained a prescription from DSâs docter and ordered the Bexsero vaccine. There is still the chance that the order will not be filled but if it is, it should arrive by the end of the week. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thatâs a relief: D16 got official word that she has indeed been hired for her expected summer job. Orientation at the end of June with the job starting after independence Day. In the meantime, sheâs doing exterior restoration at home. New to her. Earning sweat equity for us.
My D is working âbig girl hoursâ aka over 8 hrs a day. But only a few days a week to stay under 40 hrs. She likes it, expecially the pay and the experience she gains.
My S likes his 4 hr shifts and still makes enough to buy his toys aka video games, lol.
Now we need @readingclaygirlâs sister to post about her graduation
@cheeringsection, hope itâs the right one now
I have been notified that the vaccine has arrived! I will pick it up today or tomorrow.
I canât remember if I posted that S got a job at a local day camp. Not one of the ones my kids went to but this one was still hiring and a family friend referred him. He had a skype interview and was offered a position a little over a week ago and had to start several days or orientation a couple of days later. So he went from not having much going on other than job hunting to working 40 hours a week. The camp opened yesterday and he seemed to like working with the kids more than the orientation/training. He has young kids so he will be on his toes all summer. The camps pay very little, a lump sum stipend, but it is working experience and I think he will mature with being responsible all day long for 5 year olds. And while the pay is low, none of the other jobs he applied for worked out, most likely because he is leaving in August. We are at the 60 day point now until we fly to St. Louis. I really need to start getting things organized. S seems to think there is plenty of time but we know how quickly summer goes by. I was hoping S would have more of a part time job that paid minimum wage so that heâd have more downtime, but I think this will work out okay. Today I ordered the college student insurance, so that is one thing checked off my mental list. Next weâll need to decide if we want to ship a few boxes to school.
My exam is done!
D got her college portal today, with official class schedule and email address. That left a catch in my throat-I guess she really is leaving soonâŠShe was invited to apply as a representative of her college for an all-expense paid leadership seminar in mid-July in Nashville. Itâs affiliated with her church denomination, and she is very excited to apply. This is right up her ally.
@Cheeringsection good luck on that vaccine.
@readingclaygirl congrats!
Maybe thatâs why the internship didnât work out @sseamom
