At last count D has 17 APs she actually passed and has an IB diploma. However, since Columbia gives only 16 credits despite allocating 3-6 points for many of these classes (gets covered quickly with about 4-6 APs or 3 IBs), it was all mostly for fun. She should have taken it easy during 12th grade!
Huge Congrats to her @texaspg! <:-P
@texaspg My kids knew that taking AP courses was a personal choice they could make first and foremost for the extra challenge and rigor⊠and as a bonus the scores âmightâ translate into credits at some colleges.
I suspect one of the reasons your D was accepted at Columbia was because she had the rigor (wow, 17 APs and an IB diploma!), and did not âtake it easyâ in 12th grade. Good for her!
@sseamom in love with the space saver bags. I want to suck the air out of everything!
Just saw on the news that Nashville has experienced severe flooding. Any word on your daughterâs school @sseamom ? Anyoneâs kids going to Vandy?
@Undercovermom1 :)) :))
@Undercovermom1 âŠ"in love with the space saver bags. I want to suck the air out of everything! "
I just bought some because they were brought up here. I took them to our beach house to free some closet space of extra quilts. My cheap Hoover down there does not fit the valve! I filled a jumbo bag and sat on top of it and kind of rolled most of the air out. It was pure comedy. Iâm glad there were no witnesses.
Did I already post this? Big Lots $18 twin XL memory foam topper. You can order them online. Our local store was filled with them. Itâs bare made in USA foam and weâll top it with a cotton mattress pad.http://www.biglots.com/product/twin-xl-memory-foam-mattress-topper/p810090427?pos=1:1&Ntt=twin xl
Their Sterilite plastic drawers were cheaper than Target too.
S finally spoke to his adviser on Tuesday afternoon. They were supposed to speak again today but S had to stay late at his camp job - until 7:00 so now they are going to speak on Monday. So some progress has been made. In the meantime, he got an email from the school that his adviser has not yet authorized him to register on their system so that he needs to have these calls with the adviser. Registration is next Wed. - Iâm staying calm. Really.
We did get an email invitation to a freshmen send off in our area. That is making me realize how soon everything is happening. Iâm glad about the discussion on mattress toppers - that is going to get me out this weekend to start looking at things. There is a Big Lots about half an hour from me. I think I might make a trip there.
Thanks @readingclaygirl and @4kids2graduate. Texas gives 24 credits to IB diploma candidate and kids enter with a lot of credits (some as many as 50) if they go to one of our State schools if they are in a similar situation. However, many of the top tier schools limit what they accept but I was surprised to see Columbia place a limit at 16 credits. OTOH, some schools like Caltech give you nothing.
I think my IB friends who are going to a wide range of schools (UChicago, Vassar, St Lawernce, Hobart and William Smith, Williams, SUNY Potsdam etc) get credits based on exam scores. Every school seems to have their own policies.@texaspg Good luck to everyone who will get AP scores tomorrow!
Thatâs terrible about the flooding. Too much of that this year.
Holy COW! some areas got 7 INCHES of rain! But it looks like the worst was to the north, and th colleges including Vandy and Fisk, which are in S. Nashville are ok. All of the students that D knows are NOT on campus, so we have no first-hand information, though. How about our resident Nashville parent? Can you weigh in @oneundecided ?
LOL, @Undercovermom1 ! It IS so fun to do!
@OspreyCV22 , we ran into a similar problem with the âtravelâ space bags, which donât have a valve-you ARE supposed to squoosh and roll them to get the air out. But this was not good enough for D, so she thought of getting the thin âedgeâ attachment and sealing as much of the bag as possible, then using that attachment to suck out as much air as possible, then I jumped in and sealed that last inch of the bag as she withdrew the vacuum. H thought it was hysterical, because we were yelling, âNOW!â âGOT IT!â âHURRY UPâ etc.
What happened to the student who was in the group who had gotten into lots of top schools? Have they posted lately?
@Justathought1 I have not seen frenchtoadtliver post recently. My guess is that they are either extremely busy or got the support they needed during the acceptance/decision process and doesnât need this group anymore or both. Who knows
@frenchtoastlover not toadliver :))
@Undercovermom1 Stupid autocorrect. :))
@readingclaygirl I like it as a user name!
Oh, my. I think Iâll just cancel the college plans and lock D16 away for the next 20 years. I had no idea about college student and recent grad lifestyle:

Perhaps itâs just a small subset.
I canât help but wonder if frenchtoast was pulling our legs. The story of all those schools and all those acceptances seemed like something weâd have seen on the news. But if not hope they are doing well on their trips across Europe and Asia, which was their summer plan.
@dyiu13 that is not at all what the young people I know do. My older girl never âhooked upâ and my D16âs older friends in college donât either. I had a couple of friends in HS who were âhook-up artistsâ and well before Tinder, but who settled down and have had long, stable marriages. There were people who were into hook-ups in college too, and more who were NOT. I donât think this is anything new-just another way of making it possible. D got asked out by 3 guys today, and she turned them all down. If youâre sure of yourself, youâre not going to be swayed by some appâs popularity.
Very frustrated with both kids right now. D14 is in Ireland right now and not much communication from her. Although she did ask me for some addresses to send postcards. When I send and one for me she said she was sending them to people that gave her money for her trip. Forgetting that I bought her a new phone, added her to one of our credit cards, and gave her cash before she left. D16 texted me to let me know she got the dorm she wanted. When I asked her how her new student checklist was coming no response. Then I reminded her to register for a trip. She messages right back that it was already full. When I pointed out she didnât answer my questionâno response. So I got aggravated and said there you go, goodnight. Response right back that she is meeting with her advisors. I didnât even answer back as it didnât dawn on her that she was still texting but just didnât want to discuss anything I wanted addressed. Feeling very neglected >:P
