Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

thank you @psychmomma @gettingschooled !!!

Thank you for the info @mommdc! I am mailing an envelope tomorrow & will look for the regional boxes. (looks like I will be able to send things for less than I sent an envelope last week!)

Thanks for the tip @mommdc. I checked and you can order a set of 10 of the boxes for free from USPS online, so I ordered them now since I’m sure we’ll need to start shipping items soon (including a swim suit that got left behind at a relatives’ house at the end of the summer :)). Here’s the link to order some:

https://store.usps.com/store/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=priority-mail&categoryNavIds=shipping-supplies%3Apriority-mail

However, I also read that ā€œRegional Rate Box prices are available to Priority Mail Commercial Base and Commercial Plus customers who use one of the USPS-produced Priority Mail Regional Rate Boxesā€ so I’m not sure if I can use them as an individual? Is there still a way to take advantage of the lower rates?

Well we are 62.9 miles from homeā€¦ā€œand that’s all I have to say about thatā€ (in the famous words of Forest Gump).

@lifegarding, I sent several boxes via regional rate last year. I got the boxes from the PO, had to ask because they didn’t have them out. I got several to have on hand. I like the box B1 that is top loading, it holds quite a bit. It only cost me like $7 and got to her in one day.

@lifegarding, you could try to order them online, and see what happens.

thanks, @mommdc, I was able to order them online, so I think I’ll just give it a try when the boxes arrive. Will post if I’m successful!

My son was dropped off August 9, 2016 and I have mailed three packages priority mail.

Now what?

Heading back to the job Monday.

Son has texted several times. Saturday morning he texted he was going hiking and just realized he left his Merrell boots at home. He told me he was going to McAfee Knob with some hall mates. It’s part of the Appalachian Trail. Later I googled and found THIS is McAfee Knob:

Needless to say I got little sleep last night. He texted me early this morning while he was doing laundry so he survived. That picture makes my hands sweat.

Our almost ten hour drive home today was actually very therapeutic. I wanted to drive most of the way to keep myself occupied…that way I couldn’t cry (too much) as we recounted the events of the last few days…of the last 18 years.

My sweet (calm) hubby ended my drive time by talking about how the three of us worked to put together this metal storage unit with three shelfs. We opened the box to learn that the unit came with four legs and three shelves and a ton of nuts and bolts. All three of us looked at this and said our own version of CRAP! Then we see the Allen wrench and continued with CRAP! To be honest we all wanted to say forget it but we worked as a team to attach the for legs to the base of the shelving unit…then the next shelf…then the top shelf. Before we knew it the shelf was done. We all stepped back and admired our handy work. We put her printer and many other items on that shelves.

My hubby compared how we have raised our sweet girl, with God’s guidance, to the sturdy metal shelf by saying ā€œlook how strong and beautiful she isā€. She took perseverance, patience and an unconditional commitment from all of us.

By the time I was ready to give him the wheel we had two hours left in our drive and we were laughing at how many times she’d been to Whole Foods Market.

In the middle of a 4 day trip to drop off daughter. Suggested bed railing on an elevated bed and was told no…

Btw- need to thank whoever suggested the $20 samsonite bags. We did a move out, an international trip, a move in, and now another move in with 3 of those bags and they are stil holding up!

Bags packed, check-in completed, snacks for the trip bought – we just need to wake up in the morning and get on the plane. My husband, who has seemed fine with the whole process, has been a sad sack all day. He said when S21 graduates and leaves us, maybe we should become foster parents. Wait…what? I’ve NEVER heard that from him.

safe travels @palm715 - can’t wait to hear all about it. xxo

Safe travels. Keep us posted.

@palm715 Hugs to you and your family. Safe travels

Good luck to all still traveling and moving in! It really is such a milestone on this journey!

@palm715 must be doing the longest travel in our group?

Except for the trip from Africa to the Midwest?

Safe travels! @palm715 I start classes in 30 minutes
