Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@happymochi – I have no words of wisdom here. For us it’s easy w S16. We just say that because he’s being recruited to swim he’s been asked to keep all contacts w coaches/schools confidential.

I think you can easily say that because so many of the schools that your son is considering have admit rates around 10% he’s going to play it pretty close to the vest until he knows what his options are, and that he really won’t know to where he’ll be applying until January.

Postscript: Got S14 moved into his room. I’ve made two trips to Target, and one each to BB&B and The Container Store in the last 24 hrs. I’ve also built the same TV stand twice, as the first time I put one piece in backwards. More or less done. We’ll all share lots of tips and funny stories next year at this time.

Many postings last couple of days and it’s hard to follow but there are many good informations.

School is still 3 1/2 weeks away and DD did not start any essay yet. She’s thinking a lot about NSLI-y application and having gap year. I don’t know why she obsessed so much having gap year but that’s what it is. She is still young - will turn 17 next year - and have enough time to explore more.

I just got a solicitation message from someone who wants me to pay them $70/hr to get my kid into college. This is my 2nd college bound kid and 3rd year on college confidential. I’ve never encountered this before. Has anyone else seen this? Is it against CC terms of service?

I got one too.

Me too.

I got one too.

Got it too. I imagine they went through this forum and clicked on each user’s profile to send the request. We might want to report them.

I got the same solicitation.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone!

I did too. Has anyone reported it?

How do you report it?

What if someone started a thread and mentioned it, on the forum support board. Then we can make it public info.

Honestly, I don’t bother to censor the list of schools my son is considering – its a diverse list with some obvious schools on it and some that most people in our area have never considered. Most are matches and safeties. I love to talk about them and he doesn’t really have a dream school. I figure it is a chance to emphasize that not everyone is going for the lottery schools and that’s totally fine.

Right now he’s wrestling with the idea that he should narrow his choice of majors before fully writing his essays. I have told him not to worry too much about it, but we’ve had some great conversations as we talk about the options. He’s outlined a couple essays, hopes to draft them in the next week before school starts.

@sseamom Your daughter’s school sounds so supportive!

Tomorrow we move S14 into his dorm – second time around is a lot easier. @AsleepAtTheWheel we will make our second trip to Target in the morning.

@carolinamom2boys @readingclaygirl I would be curious if any of your schools are on the big list for high school class of 2014 (http://■■■■■■■/class2018) – I was surprised that the list was more diverse than I expected.

Or we can post something for a moderator like @skieurope to see. Hey @skieurope there is a person by the name of PrincetonGrad soliciting parents from this forum! He has no posts, but he seems to be hitting us up for $70 an hour to help our kids get into college. Gotta love a recent grad trying to drum up business but perhaps this is the wrong place to do it.

@crowlady My son’s first and second choices were listed.

I got it too and I’ve been very open that my D is only applying to OU and it is a super safety for her. Why in h@LL would I pay $70 a hour to get her into college!

If my daughter is not accepted to her choice of schools, that’s absolutely not because I did not spend $70/hr.

@carolinamom2boys @momofzag @NYDad513 - I also got that ad and I forwarded it to a moderator and it is against the terms of service on CC and they will take care of it. (Discussing moderation is also forbidden but I hope it is ok to say the above.)

@MuggleMom @LKNomad @happymochi @sophomore1 @3scoutsmom - I did report it (PM’ed a moderator and cut/pasted the message) and they will take care of it. It is certainly creepy.

please forward the message to me. It is definitely against the CC terms.

Yep, I just received it.
