S is my fashion-forward kid. His sisters all have favored the bag lady look for high school. He, otoh, wants clothes, clothes, nothing but clothes for Christmas. Well, and the watch he sent me a link to, which rings up at a mere £225. (Dream on, boy.)
Mind, until about a year ago he lived in nothing but jeans and band shirts. Growing up does some weird things.
@petrichor11 especially when that growing up includes trying to catch the attention of a particular young lady. In hindsite, my DS’s interest in clothes definitely changed when the young lady became a consideration, but no complaints here! I was so ready for him to move on from the athletic-wear-all-the-time look.
@Cheeringsection and @petrichor11 I’m just ecstatic that I have finally gotten him out of his TransSiberianOrchestra T shirts that he wore just about everyday . We’re facing a relapse because we are going to the TSO concert in a few weeks. We go every year as a family tradition to usher in the holiday season. This will probably be out last year to be able to go together if DS16 attends his first choice , several of his other choices are doable. I see a clothing intervention coming .
@Cheeringsection I’m sure that assisted in DS19’s transformation .
@carolinamom2boys I had never heard of TSO…so googled them and watched several of their videos! Now I want to go see them, and they are performing in our area…but during the time we are out of state visiting family and colleges. Darn!
@4kids2graduate They are amazing. Took the boys for the first time when the oldest was in 5th grade and youngest was in the 2nd grade. We’ve been hooked ever since. Both boys have since started playing the viola. It’s definitely not your typical Christmas show. Lasers , snow, fireworks. 2nd half of the show is classical music rock style. Definitely a must see, at least once.
I have never seen TSO live, but have watched their TV specials. 4kids-Google the “dancing Christmas lights” set to “Wizards in Winter” by TSO. There are several, but one guy started it all. There was a TV commercial made from it. Also, thanks for the kind words about D. She too is only considering schools within a day’s drive as backups. Everything else is on the other side of the country. She says, “I love you guys, but no offense, I don’t want you hopping in the car to visit anytime you want to.” We’ll see if she still feels that way next fall!
carolina-my brother and his family try to go every year too. As his girls have grown up and have their own lives it is harder, but they still manage it.
First Official Acceptance Letter received today. Still waiting on the official letter from last year’s provisional acceptance. Good scholarship offer as well. >:D<
Congrats! @carolinamom2boys on both the acceptance and the good scholarship offer!
Congratulations, carolinamom2boys!
DD got an offer from UCL in London, we are very, very happy

Congrats to all acceptances today AND
CONGRATS TO THE CLEMSON TIGERS #1
Thanks for mentioning Stitch Fix. It just might be an efficient option for my D16. As I saw her wear my own 37-year-old Eddie Bauer mountain shell jacket last week, I realized whatever she gets for her wardrobe or other possessions over the next half-year, she’ll might just own it for years. So, when I think of her wardrobe moving from the teen/high school kid into young adult/college kid territory, I’m thinking “long-term.”
Have started to plan to provide her with a good leather jacket, boots, gloves, tote, and purse. A good trench coat and winter camel hair coat. Snow boots. Sleeping bag, hiking backpack, travel carry-on. What else? Not sure. She wants a minimalist wardrobe. Maybe a new adult-sized folding scooter or a folding bike. A passport. Oh, and she’d love a big leather reading chair for her bedroom. Time to go thrifting with the kiddo!
In addition to planning her “last” Thanksgiving, Christmas , and spring holidays as a kid living at home, I’ve also started to consider how to celebrate her hs graduation in May.
Would love to hear others’ ideas!
We’re really glad to have the news last week that in addition to being admitted, one school will grant D16 full tuition for four years. Now, we just have to figure how to cover room, board, books, and Megabus is travel. Tougher, given that DH was just laid off, which halves our income.
@dyiu13 I hope everything works out for your family
