Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@AnxietyAttack77 I will do that, thanks! I’m assuming you called, not your child? With the time difference, he probably could call now that I think of it…

I’m so sorry for your daughter @Themommymommy . I’m glad that they are aware of it so you can at least be vigilant.

DS16 and I met with GC yesterday for his graduation plan and to make sure everything is on track for scholarships and college admissions. I was quite amused when the GC commented that DS16 had applied to a lot of schools. He’s applied to 5. Obviously she doesn’t look on CC. :(|)

Disregard previous emoji. Fat thumbs hit wrong one.

@carolinamom2boys, not good to call the GC a monkey  Not good at all.

Actually that was last year’s GC @OspreyCV22 . She neglected to send in my son’s scholarship application to a local LAC which cost him $ 7500.00 in money renewable for 4 years.

So I was elsewise occupied a lot of yesterday and today and had to go through four or more pages of updates on what’s going on with everyone. So here I go catching up:

@MuggleMom I use going to Barnes & Nobel to bribe my daughter. She loves books and reads every minute she can. I ordered her as as surprise for Christmas The Complete Writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson! She will be thrilled.

@Almondjoy1 Super Congrats on your S becoming an Eagle! That is a phenomenal accomplishment!

@carolinamom2boys Fingers crossed hoping that your S becomes an Eagle as well!

@happymochi Loved that video! It truly says it all!

@drmom123 I was thinking gift cards for teachers and GC for LOR’s. Cookies and Chocolate are great but all I hear is how everyone is dieting or watching something (sugar, salt, etc.) so I figure an Amazon Gift Card can be put to good use.

@mysonsdad My D received one of those letters from Wash U…and today My Husband and I received one from them regarding helping our family “address any special needs or circumstances in order to make a Washington University education a financial reality.” We are not reading anything more into either letter than the words state but I do appreciate their being willing to assist us in making Wash U a viable option and I will take them up on it at the appropriate time.

@Bandmom339 Welcome! Our house is torture central as no acceptances are expected until mid to late January! UGH!

@Themommymommy I am so sorry that your D has to deal with this now or ever. We deal with identity theft at my office all the time (CPA firm) and it is very difficult but everyone does get through. Best of luck that things go smoothly for your D going forward!

For all I have inadvertently missed Super Congrats to All Acceptances and All forms of other Great News! Keep the Great News Coming. I love to hear these kids getting all this good news - they work so hard and deserve all the rewards from their hard work.

This is just s vent. Pretty silly in the big picture, I know. My son has a perfect GPA. He has taken rigorous classes and worked very hard to get his test scores up. At his school, in the Honors program, he gets a lot of crap for not having an ACT in the 30s. He may get a B in AP Stats and AP Physics. They are high B’s, but all the same, he has said how bummed he is. I reassured him that it was fine and he said ’ I know but with my test scores being what they are, I felt like this was the one thing I had going for me.’ I of course again reassured him that it probably won’t be a major factor in things at this point, but inside I’m thinking what the heck is wrong with the world that he is feeling so insecure when he is clearly doing so well? It just made me sad and I hope once he gets out of HS and moves on, he will enjoy life more and not be so focused on this type of thing.

Just venting. I do realize he is very lucky and that this isn’t really a major problem compared to the issues going on in the world.

I understand @CAMidwestMom . It’s very frustrating.

I just got off the phone with the College Board. We sent DS’s scores to his schools in the middle of September. Of the 6 he has applied to three clearly have them. One we do not have access to their portal yet to verify. UMD showed them as not received but when I called they “found” them and manually matched them to the application because my son used his nickname when he first took the PSATs as a sophomore. Still not showing on the portal. The reason I called the College Board is that we just checked the portal (i.e. I checked the portal) today and the scores are shown as not received. I called the school, and they said to call the College Board and get the Tracking or Batch number. I called and got it and while I was on the phone I asked the CB to give me the tracking numbers for all the other schools that DS is applying to but whose apps he has not finished. Might as well get ahead of the game just in case.

@CAMidwestMom, I did call. We’re on the east coast so DC is in school during the college’s business hours.

@Themommymommy I am sorry to hear what happened. It’s horrible and I wish the data is ignored.

SAT score… She ordered the scores on Oct. 28th and I asked her to send the score to all the schools in her list. Last Friday, I asked my daughter whether she checked the score were delivered. She said she did not checked but she received a couple of e-mails saying thanks for the scores and hopes she’s applying soon. So we guess CB sent out the scores.

@NYDad513 I wish all the schools sent emails confirming they received the scores. Trying to track all this down via the various school portals is a time consuming.

@PAO2008 I agree 200%.

^^^ Me too. Two schools out of seven have sent confirmation emails. All schools were applied to on the same day. The confirmation makes them seem more organized and welcoming.

I think there are some schools that want to see how independent the student is…and wants them to keep track. It’s one way they decide if the kid is right for the school? No? 8-|

@CAMidwestMom I totally get hoping your child gets to a place where they can take a breath and say I don’t want to “package” myself anymore to meet others expectations. I came home from work to a surly DD today. Her school counselor said her ED school is requesting her as-of-this-moment grades. She has never received less than an A at the semester, but her current grade in the required Hawaiian History is a B. She ended-up a heap of tears on my lap. Usually, I think her innate intensity is a plus; tonight I’m not so sure.

Regarding SAT scores, was anyone’s scores sent more than once? S EA school had them sent 3 times with requesting the, to be sent more than once

DD’s scores were sent twice to one of her EA schools for some reason.

@palm715 – I can’t imagine that a mid-semester B in Hawaiian History will make one whit of difference to anyone, and certainly not to the adcomm of her ED school, no matter how selective a school it is. I bet you that most of the committee members can’t even spell ‘Hawaiian’ correctly.
