We are on the southern leg of the college visits. Big day tomorrow, and a competitive full scholarship on the line, so I hope it goes well. Regardless though, learning a lot, both asking questions and listening to the questions of others.
Asleep-the test score sagas are probably responsible for countless blood pressure and stomach woes around the world! I hope you get yours straightened out soon! Ours continuesā¦we ordered the SAT scores last week as soon as we knew the most recent scores and they were sent today, or so the website shows. All the schools we sent them to keep the students updated on application status, so hopefully weāll know if they actually HAVE these āsentā scores. One college is still missing the ACT score that ACT shows as sent on Oct. 18. They are holding Dās application and consideration until they find the scores. ARGH!
D ended up being needed in two places at once today and didnāt get as much done on her apps as sheād hoped. So sheāll work on essays during the break in the speech tournament (3 hours) tomorrow, and do more app stuff on Sunday morning. Then she plans to reward herself with making a new wig-sheās always dabbling with making clip-ins, hair pieces, extensions and so on. She usually gives them away to friends. You can learn anything on Youtubeā¦
On a campus and going to the ābig gameā today. I cannot decide if I think this one is a great fit or not for my DS. He usually takes a while to process things before he talks about them so I will just have to be patient until he does that. The facilities here are mixed. Some new and great but others seem on the less than adequate side given the number of students in the program. Regardless, we intend to enjoy ourselves today. We need to sample some local āmust haveā food and take in the sights.
Scholarship Interviews today for Wofford Scholars. Reward for a very difficult week for DS16- TransSiberian Orchestra tickets for tomorrow. I am so ready for a break.
Thanks everyone for all your support. Over 300 students here with stats similar or better than DS16, but heās feeling positive about it. He said this should be easy compared to his Eagle BOR on Thursday.
A question and a suggestion re College Board test scores.
Question: Some colleges require that ALL scores be sent. When you look deeper, though, they mean SAT or ACT scores, but SAT Subject tests may be not required, or just recommended. So, my child took the SAT once, so thatās not an issue. She took 3 SAT Subject tests and ideally weād like to only send 2. To do this on the College Board site, though, it means you are only sending āSOMEā scores. So thatās what we did for, for example, the UC schools. But now I see they technically want ALL scores. Should I resent in order to add in the 3rd Subject test that isnāt required, just so that they see Iāve sent āALLā scores? Otherwise how do they know there arenāt other SAT test dates with scores we are not sending, which there arenāt? (As an OOS applicant, my kid is finding the UC app quite strange, since lots of data she needs to enter donāt seem to fit within the specific categories headings.)
Suggestion for those of you having trouble with the College Board sending scores: we had a similar issue for a college that had a hard deadline of November 1 with, supposedly, no grace period for late scores. I sent an SAT Subject test on Oct 22, the day it came out. But it never moved off of pending. I called the CB and was rather insistent. It was sent by the next day. This was before they announced the snafu and the various colleges allowed a grace period. It is possible to get someone on the phone who can help, although you may have to call several times to find that person.
@AsleepAtTheWheel, I called both the regional and the national CB numbers and spoke with several people before ultimately getting help. Also, I think CB can give you some sort of routing number (not sure what they call it) that you can then give to the college to have them search for the scores.
@Smilla A few weeks back a couple of parents on this board contacted Berkeley and UCLA about subject test scores. They reported that people in the admission office of both schools told them, on the phone, that students can use score choice for subject tests. This was for UCLA and Berkeley, so I donāt know about other schools. Maybe @mysonsdad can comment, since he was one of the the parents who made one of the phone calls. I cannot remember which other parent checked this out.
I may have to call them back. I asked about a number and was told those were only for scores sent out at a certain time. They showed sent, then pending, then sent after I called. College still doesnāt show theyāve received them. So tired of it.
Best of luck to your DS @carolinamom2boys ⦠an eventful week to say the least.
@smilla Iāve read that it is not necessary to send all ACT scores because a college doesnāt have any way of knowing if score choice was used. Is this incorrect? I know it is quite different for SAT Iās. D has tested 3x (ACT). Test #3 was the winner as it equaled an exact superstore of #1 and #2.
Iām seeing first snow in the Midwest through my Instagram feed. Of course I pointed this out to D during breakfast. Bwhahaha! Gorgeous day in Palm Springs. Weāre visiting my mom for her birthday. Shorts and flip flop weather.
@AsleepAtTheWheel you should definitely follow up with CB and the college. I had almost exactly the dates you did with respect to ordering scores, date allegedly sent, etc. When they were not received I had to open an āescalationā with CB on 11/13. On 11/16 the scores were actually sent and I was able to confirm on 11/17 that they were received. The colleges are going to require the scores come from CB before anything is final.
@AnxietyAttack77 Our dates match this exactly except the college still doesnāt show they are received. If after Monday they still havenāt shown up, I guess Iāll have to call the CB back.
@Smilla@AnxietyAttack77 ā Very helpful information and tips regarding the effing College Board. Thanks. Will follow up.
@Smilla ā I donāt know the schools involved, but itās very important to look at the exact wording regarding the requirement of that all standardized tests be sent. Some schools clearly have that requirement, but there are a number of schools that āsuggestā (Pomona) or ārecommendā (Amherst) that all scores be sent, but itās not an actual requirement. On the threads for these schools Iāve read notes from kids upset that they must send all scores, when they actually do not have to.
@GoodGrief16 hope your southern college visit with the competitive full scholarship on the line was a successful visit.
@bouders good to know that no the test score policy and mimimal application headaches only applies to Canadians, I thought I had missed out a great opportunity to have my DD enjoy the first semester senior year by my failure to have her apply to the universities in Canada.
@Smilla Regarding score reports sent to colleges, my understanding is that the report only indicates the SAT scores and dates - not whether only some were sent. The words āsomeā or āallā are not part of the report. This was explained by a high school college counselor who had previously worked as an admissions officer at a university that required all scores.
She said that it is up to the student to be honest in reporting the scores because the colleges have no way to check with CB. However, she did say that admissions officers do become suspicious if only one SAT score from the fall of senior year is submitted when the applicant is coming from a well-regarded public or private high school as students tend to take the SAT at least once in junior year. In those cases, she followed up with the applicantās guidance counselor to ask if the students really had only taken the SAT once. I guess the same might be true of SAT subject test scores although many students may take them only in senior year so there may be less question on the part of the admissions officer.
Iāve gone back and forth about whether āall SAT scoresā means āall scores including all subject test scores.ā I wish the schools or CB made it absolutely clear. Some of them do, at least judging from http://blog.prepscholar.com/colleges-requiring-all-sat-scores-complete-list. While some are clear about the subject tests, most are not. The messaging on College Board website for āall scoresā schools like Cornell only include the warning with the SAT 1 scores, not the subject tests. We did our best to comply ā S16 only has one subject test of 4 that Iād rather not send; we sent it to the āall scoresā schools anyway. Most of S16ās schools donāt ask for subject tests so I doubt they care. Iām almost beyond caring myself about whether all forms are filled out correctly. I can barely get S16 to complete the last few apps much less have energy left (either of us) for calling schools to clarify.
