Great news @kandcsmom . There is a Santa and he works in the financial aid office.
Congrats to those admitted and condolences and hugs for those with unhappy results. One thing I learned going through this process 3 years ago is that the admission process is a total crap shoot!
In D16ās class (the one with tons of Ivy applicants), all got deferred from Cornell and Brown. One got into UPenn and one into Stanford. Those deferred feel good that theyāre not rejected. Here, weāre still waiting. Will know one for sure on the 18th, the other relies on snail mail due sometime next week. Hopefully, it will be Merry Christmas!
Congrats to all with acceptances and scholarships! Sorry to hear about the disappointments!! I hope anyone dealing with disappointment has a good weekend with time for ice cream or shopping or whatever makes you feel better.
Congrats to @crowlady and @kandcsmom for their great scholarship news! I agree with @Smillaās statement at the top of this page about luck. I hope the kids represented on this list end up with a lot of it.
Congratulations @undercovermom1 and @AsleepAtTheWheel !
Congratulations to the acceptances and scholarships. Ice cream and chocolate for deferrals and rejectionsāthereās another fabulous school out there waiting for you.
At DSās school, legacies are doing well, others not so much. Weāre still waiting on the EA applications and dinner decisions.
@ChicagoSportsFn, we tell DS weāre buying a condo in his college town and moving there. So tell your D it could be worse!
@ChicagoSportsFn and @Almondjoy1 When I mentioned visiting my son, he goes āwell youāre not just gonna show up without calling first right?ā It cracked me up that he even thought we would do that.
At our small highly ranked magnet public school results so far are not too good. One kid got into Brown and that about it. From the summer program on another hand they are amazing. 40% are in between Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and Cornell. DD is extremely stressed out. She just got cold in time for the week of finals.
@Ballerina016 For colds, I highly recommend Sambucol Black Elderberry Cold and Flu Relief tablets. Itās a homeopathic product that reduces severity and duration of a cold. My family just started using it this season and it has been really effective. You can see reviews on Amazon. (I also use a neti pot if I feel like Iāve been āexposedā, but not I canāt get my kids to use one.)
Hi All was traveling all day yesterday and it took me some time to catch up on all the posts I missed in one 12 hour or so period! Firstly congrats to all who have received good newsā¦definitely ice cream and hugs for those denied or deferred (still in the game but the wait most certainly is excruciating). I agree with many posters that once you are in a selective schools ballpark whether you get accepted or not has crazy odds that do not seem to make any logical sense), its difficult to deal with initially but from friends who have went through this priorā¦every student that did not get into their first choice dream school ended up (quite quickly I must add) being beyond thrilled with their choice from the acceptances they received. So chin up all that may not be able to choose their initial dream school, it may actually be a blessing in disguise. We are still waiting here, my D very patiently and me not so much. One in state safe is sending out decisions but D has not received her notification. D is not concerned (because she feels she is a lockā¦how she can be so nonplussed about it is confusing to me but I will take it over anxiety) but I am wondering why she hasnāt heard. A few other EA decisions should be out next week. Still waiting on D to hit submit on one completed RD application (just needs final review) and I cannot understand the feet dragging. Then she has one more RD to do the supplemental essay for and then sheās done. Me I would want to complete them and get them off my mind, D seems to want to let them lingerā¦that is frustrating me but I try to remain as detached as possible from the situation and let her drive her process. This is turning out to me my growth process as well as hers! Letting go is tough but necessary step even for the most proficient Executive Administrative Assistants. Ha Ha.
In reference to the visiting at college postsā¦my S will sometimes tell me (even on a scheduled visit) that I really do not want to come up to his roomā¦and I definitely listen because there are times that I do not really want to know how he is living when he is away at school. I cringe and wait patiently in the carā¦knowing that he is trying to save me from being upset.
@RyanG1207 Thank you. Will try. New joke at our house: āThe temperature is in the 60th and you are catching cold. Do you think you are ready for The East Coast weather?ā
Holy moley! Itās been a busy around here!
I make sounds and sometimes clap while reading posts here. I try to do it before everyone else wakes up so my family wonāt make fun of me.
Joyous congrats and/or heart-felt hugs for everyone who has received results these last few days. The word that keeps running through my mind for your kids is āresilientā and that will serve them far beyond any specific college acceptance.
As for me, I had my petulant child moment. I un-follwed Brown University on Instagram and said some not-nice-words while doing it. Yeah. I showed them. Donāt mess with me!
Iāve teased S that I plan to pack up and move wherever he goes (my job can be done from anywhere), but he knows thatās not going to happen. However, we did visit a city last month that I LOVED, and Iām idly wondering if heād mind if I move there if he goes somewhere else! I suppose it depends on whether his decision to go elsewhere was his, or if the school there rejects him.
Heās received a ālikely letterā from a school in NY, and is now dropping hints that we should consider visiting while itās cold, just to see how it is in winter. It might not be the worst idea. Right now, though, finals are preoccupying him, which is probably a good thing, given all of the drama around ED/EA notifications right now.
@palm715, lol! Iām going to have a heck of a lot Facebook āunlikingā to do when all this is over
LOL yes my Twitter feed and FB list will significantly shrink in a few months. But truthfully, Iāve learned a lot and passed on quite a bit to my son. I think seeing their posts does start to give you a feel for the environment.
All my social media will be significantly different in three months time. Through this process as D has been adding and deleting (and then re-adding) colleges to her list Iāve been following suit.
In reference to visiting at colleged - we dropped our DS off nearly four years ago at Whitman and never visited since. He comes home at the holiday break, thanksgiving is spent at a friends. He comes home for summer. Graduation will be the second time I see his college in person.
Congrats to @AsleepAtTheWheel and anyone else I missed who has had good news.
I will admit I read this thread right now with a mixture of hope and fear. (My family mocks me too for it)
On a sort of sillier note we could use some insight in to colloquiallisms from the south. On one of the housing room mate matching sites for a southern university it seems that all of the girls describe themselves as āup for adventureā or something along those lines. Looking at their range of activities or interests I donāt see alot of rock climbing, roller coasters, travel or other sorts of adventures of that nature. SO is this a euphemism for something in the south?
@Themommymommy Never heard of it before in SC. Maybe it sounds nicer than looking for a good time.
@Themommymommy Never heard of it before in GA either. Was wondering the same thing as @carolinamom2boys !
