Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Sorry to hear about the deferral @Waiting2exhale But yay on the scholarship news!

Wow, trying to get some work done and BOOM–thread blows up. Congrats to all and here’s hoping to the rest.

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances, accomplishments, scholarships etc. Still waiting here for Honors and 2 LAC notifications. Patience is a virtue, and I’m finding out quickly that I’m not a virtuous woman.

@missbwith2boys, it sounds like your son has some great options…but the situation with the state school sounds incredibly annoying. I HATE bureaucracy.

Thanks for all the kind words. D16 has been turned down for multiple scholarships this year; it was actually becoming comical how little a 4.0/2350/tons of quality ECs seemed to mean. I think it really lifted her spirits to get this bit of validation today.

I am sorry to hear of others’ disappointments today. This process does seem incredibly random, and so much of the kids’ hearts goes into these applications. It hurts to see when they feel unappreciated.

@fretfulmother & @GoodGrief16 CONGRATULATIONS!
Crossing fingers for your D, @Waiting2exhale. And well done on the scholarship news!

We have good news as of about an hour ago-- S was accepted to Boston College!

Congrats @petrichor11 for son’s acceptance to Boston College.

Totally agree!! Lots of hugs to all who need then in this very random and sometimes hurtful process.

Congrats to all. Have not been posting for quite some time. My D got into Princeton as well.

@petrichor11 congratulations!!! I went to BC for my teaching degree and adored it!!

@petrichor11 Congratulations! Did the results come via snail mail? I have a friend waiting to hear.

He got an email about an hour ago. They’re being released via email in big batches this evening.

Congrats!

@Dragonflygarden what T-shirt?

@Waiting2exhale - I’m pulling for you guys!! And good for you guys for the scholarship news!

Princeton gives a free t-shirt to all admitted students. I think there is a link to request it where they see their admission decision. Just the first of many free things given to students.

Thanks, fretfulmother. That is good news for you, and I hope the numbers work out for your son if that is where he chooses to go. Don’t forget that conversation I was having with NYDad513, and let your son start the process if it is what his heart most desires.

She seems close to fine, and with no time to mull in anything as she has two interviews set up for this weekend, and has given me ā€œpermissionā€ to help her prep for the big scholarship interview. Being a numbers girl, it all came down to that for her, and that is what helps things to make sense. (I cannot believe I gave birth to her, but…)

Miles to go.

Congrats to you and your kids @fretfulmother & @GoodGrief16

I hope the interview goes well for waiting2exit! @Waiting2exhale.

@petrichor11 @carlson2 congrats to your kids too. Wow this has been an exciting happy news night for so many!

@carlson2 @petrichor11 Congrats!!! <:-P

Congratulations @petrichor11, that is wonderful news.

GoodGrief16, I am glad that this year will not end without great news for you and your child. And what news! Speaks to scholarship, if not a scholarship. That is reward in itself.

Readingclaygirl: I thought of you earlier this evening. Thanks for the encouragement.

Seems the kids in my daughter’s online feeds are all sending her the big hugs.

Big hugs, no tears (thank goodness), and even bigger shout outs to all those with great news tonight.

I know this is wildly off topic but there’s an item in the news about a tiny kitten, looks like 3-4 weeks old at most, being rescued off a conveyor belt at a recycling facility in California. One of the workers is adopting her and has named her Murphy.

That was such an unexpected breath of fresh air among all the college application stress, semester finals, crazy national / international politics and more! Apologies to any who are not cat people …
