@Undercovermom1 We eat our Chinese food on Christmas day! Tonight is Star Wars!!! We are a Jewish (American)/Muslim(Turkish) intermixed family. Weird, I know.

Christmas came early today. DS16 received a letter certified mail with a hand written note from the Dean of the Honors College at one of his top choices welcoming into the Honors College, along with an invitation to attend an Honors interview weekend in which only 10% of accepted Honors students are invited to compete for some substantial scholarships including several full rides . He’s so excited . This is the " best of the best " in the Honors College , and it’s been his goal to be offered a chance to interview. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone .

We’re doing our Chinese dinner tomorrow- a buffet, in honor of voracious teenage appetites. Plus they have really excellent sushi, which makes D very happy.
S is in his room as we speak doing a deep cleaning. He just came out bearing an armload of band tee shirts: band camp, Disney trip, assorted band competitions. I’m oddly reluctant to see them go, even though some are sweat-stained from band camp and others are outgrown. He’s not the quilt type. Any other suggestions?

@carolinamom2boys That’s so great! We can’t take for granted that their hard work will get them exactly what they want, but it is really nice when they see some of the rewards and feel a sense of validation for all the work they’ve put in so far.
It has been a whirlwind week that’s for sure .

I love that even though most schools are on break, happy news is still; arriving in mailboxes, real and virtual. @petrichor11 I’m giving my D some slack on her once again messy room since she cleaned, unasked, the bathroom from top to bottom AND tidied up the living and dining room, plus the desk in the kitchen. Next week, I’ll get on her about it.
We’re having all of H’s family over tomorrow, plus my two older kids, and in-laws of in-laws and some of
THEIR kids. The meal will be a mix of soul food, Mexican food, Italian and Polish (from my family background). As soon as I leave work in an hour, I’m starting a boatload of pirogi with my D’s and a big pot of spaghetti sauce. H is smoking a ham wrapped in bacon first thing in the morning and everyone else will bring sides.
Wife and I hit the gym twice today to make up for all the food we eat tomorrow. Now that she is retired I make her go to the gym with me, not that she minds. Our family is white, Chinese, Pakistani, black, Christian, Buddist, and Muslim, but in the end, we’re all turkeys…
We will eat Americanized Korean style Chinese food tomorrow.
Our kids should enjoy these feasts while they can, before they get accused of cultural appropriation!

I know we have many people from Texas here. DD is writing an essay about rodeo and has a question: what do you call the facility in which a rodeo is held? Is it a gymnasium?

Depends on the event, bronco rider? wangler? rider? generic ‘cowboy’ would work for all I guess.

@Ballerina016 In Houston we call is the arena “Reliant Stadium”, lol. But generally arena for the local rodeo. Bull rider, bronco rider like 3scoutmom said it depends on the event. Cowboy overall if my daughters and I are talking about how cute the bull rider is, ie. “Let’s go check out all the cute cowboys at the rodeo”
Thank you @labegg and @3scoutsmom I knew I could get information here. I am glad DD asked me to read her essay, because originally she had jockey riding a horse in a rodeo that took place at the ranch.
