Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Well D17 did check her PSAT scores and she got 99% but almost certainly won’t be high enough for our crazy high NM state. Our school only has a NM finalist every few years. She did do better than S16’s score last year by a pretty wide margin so hopefully that means she can beat his superscored 36 on the ACT  If she only could have been bothered to review a tiny bit but she was sure that she wasn’t as good at the new SAT format as the ACT. I guess after she takes the Feb ACT she can decide about taking the SAT. I feel like I’m on a crazy merry go round with all this stuff back to back!

@dcplanner I couldn’t imagine doing this back to back! I’m so glad I have a couple of years to recover before my next son starts the process…lol

Okay, can someone please explain reddit to me? Format, who uses it and why, etc.?

Back to back is certainly tough. I thought it would be easier the 2nd time around. In some ways it is, and in some ways, its like doing it for the first time all over again. S15 is an entirely different animal than D16.Schools are different, rules change, and knowing something last year necessarily make it true this year. @dcplanner for me it was less stressful until I realized how much I still didn’t know. Somehow, we all manage to get through.

Sorry, I have been quiet after our last push over the finish line. Our beloved dog passed away this week, and my heart is bleeding. She grew up with the kids, so it’s like a part of their childhood has left with her. Letting go is not easy…

Congratulations @bookmom7 @Sophmore1

@hapymochi I am so sorry for your loss. They are definitely another child in the family.

Also, thank you for the Congratulations.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats on daughters scholarship. Today, has not been as bright. They announced that prom was on 4/1 and that is the mandatory date she has to accept the scholarship in DC. She was just planning her prom dress and activities last night.

@happymochi
virtual hugs to you. We lost one of our dogs last year- so I know how it feels. I never thought I would miss a dog so much… He was a sweetheart- completely kind and loving. I wanted to try to find a dog with same personality, but decided against it since we may want to be able to travel more to visit d at college.

@happymochi My heart goes out to you during this time of pain. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog.

@Sophmore1 Oh no, that is so tough. As if this process was not emotional enough. How much more of these ups and downs do these kids have to take.

@happymochi So sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry, @happymochi .

@happymochi I am so sorry. It does seem to be a time of letting go. :frowning:
And ugh @Sophmore1 !!

So sorry @happymochi .
Glad that you found out about having to receive the scholarship before you spent all that money on a dress @Sophmore1

@happymochi - so sorry. It is difficult to lose such an important part of your family.
We lost our pet of 19 years several months ago. If he had made it longer & I lost him on top of sending my only son away to college- I would have been a complete & utter mess.

@Sophmore1 - tough to miss out on an important event. Maybe she & her friend can have a mini-prom of their own.

@happymochi - I’m sorry for your loss!! Also, I wanted to do a “hugs” button but there was just “like” and “helpful” as options, so I mean “like” in the sense of we’re here for you though of course the news is horrible.

@happymochi I am so sorry. We have a dog who is around 7 years old and I cannot imagine how it will be when that time comes. He is a part of the family. It is truly like losing a family member.

@happymochi I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. =((

Thank you, friends, for your kind and compassionate messages.

My heart goes out to you @happymochi.

Sorry for your loss, @happymochi . And @Sophmore1, what a blow! But for such a good reason!

The “senior superlatives” came out yesterday and D was voted “most likely to start a revolution”. HA! On the way to her internship she was telling me about her science fair project and about the “sustainable school” she and her partner are designing (with the help of an actual school in a developing country). She kept saying, “And if THAT works, they can teach other schools, and if THAT works, they can get the whole town involved…HEY! Like a revolution! I get it now!” Yup.
