Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

The one and done people still exist @4kids2graduate My sister and I are 2 of them. Haha! But yeah this whole year is stressful.

Sigh. DS is so sick he will miss all finals and end up with incompletes. The teachers assure me that they will change the grades as soon as he takes his finals but this means that the counselor will have to delay sending his midterm grades to his colleges. Since he has a 4.0 I hope that most college will not need to see his most recent grades but we really don’t need more stress.

@LKnomad Poor kid! I hope he feels better soon.

@LKnomad I’m sick as a dog right now, so my heart goes out to your son. My D is making chicken soup for me right now. Can I share some with him? He’s such a strong applicant that his midterm grades will only be an icing on the cake.

@LKnomad Huge Hugs!!!

@LKnomad and @happymochi sending you virtual chicken soup. DD checked with her GC today and she said mid year reports are not sent out yet. Our first semester ended before Christmas.

@LKnomad Is it the flu ? Hope he feels better.

@readingclaygirl
so happy you are on this thread and bring a dose of “reality” to many student/parent’s insane processes
glad to know that some students can apply to one or a very few colleges and be done
good for you!!!

I applied to one college (a million years ago
lol) and was accepted, attended happily, etc
I really wish more kids could experience a simple college application process!

@Ballerina016 That’s a long wait! They must be almost halfway through 3rd quarter! When will they send them?

@sseamom are they the ones that sing the “song that never ends”?

@readingclaygirl DD’s school is on semester system. First semester ended before Christmas and new semester started on 1/11. I don’t know why it takes so long. Only two schools asked to self report mid year grades. I guess the rest will have to wait.

I think one advantage of S decision from USC being delayed is they will have his mid year grades

@LKnomad and @happymochi Sending wishes for a quick recovery!

@EskiesAndBoys she’s going (alone) Feb. 14-15. I’m really looking forward to what she thinks. I think she’s most excited about traveling alone!

Hope your trip goes well!

@LKnomad, oh no, poor guy!! One more thing!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. At least we have not had any negative news from the verification people so he only has to worry about getting well, I hope.

Aww, get well wishes to @LKnomad and @happymochi !

Yes @4kids2graduate yes, that’s the song! MY older kids and their cousins used to sing it at us when my sister and I took them anywhere. Drove us crazy!

This is such an insanely stressful time. Congratulations to those who’ve fiiiiiiiinnnnnaaaaallllllyyy heard something, ice cream for those who’ve had sad news, and adult beverages or chocolate to all of the parents. This isn’t for the weak.

We’re still in the waiting game for RD. S has one full tuition, one half tuition, and one “barely covers books” merit from his EAs. The middle one has pretty much been ruled, out but the “barely covers books” one has strong familial and emotional attachments, and he’s not letting go of it. It wouldn’t be pretty, but if it’s his choice in April, so be it. Of the 3 RDs to go, two don’t award merit at all, and the NPC at one hilariously says that we pay all but about $1000. Um
 thanks?

@LKnomad - I missed what your S is fighting. We’ve had the endless cough and cold here. I kept S home from school yesterday. He still sounds like hell in the mornings, but can’t really miss any more days. I hope your S is feeling better quickly and doesn’t have too much of a mountain to climb when he’s back. @happymochi - same to you - soup, rest, and hope you’re on the mend quickly. I think we all need a nice vacation when this is over, just to recover!

Has anyone else had a school want a housing application without an enrollment deposit? D got a message today from one school (her full ride financial safety that we have not been able to visit yet) saying that there was a Feb 15 deadline for the housing application for EA admits.

I thought it had to be a mistake, but started reading forms and the school’s forum here on CC, and, sure enough, it was true. There is no enrollment commitment or deposit involved. And she is certainly not ready to commit there or anywhere. But there was yet another essay to write (for the engineering housing option) and research to be done on what the housing is
like I said, we haven’t even been able to visit yet.

@Ballerina2016, that’s another ugh!!! In this process. We also ended before Christmas and our grades were due in the Wednesday we got back. S counselor told me yesterday she sent midterm grades 2 weeks ago, so it was almost immediately after we got our grades in. Hopefully your DD counselor gets on the ball and gets those sent quickly. I know your D did great. She sounds wonderful.

Still hoping for your S to get well @LKnomad and for you too @happymochi
