@sseamom well that bites!
@happymochi I was wondering the same.

@happymochi It is so hard to know what to do. We are fortunate that we live close to most of my sonâs choices, but Iâve still had to limit visits. Hopefully youâll here soon.
@sseamom That is so frustrating. I agree that they should spell that out in the directions for applying. Iâm fairly certain that this is not the first time that this has come up. Your daughter sure perseveres and is wise beyond her years.
@Booajo Better things on the horizon .
Sorry to hear the bad news @Booajo, but keep your head up.
@sseamom, you mean you want some instructions regarding something that has to do with college? The nerve!! (Okay, sarcasm button turned off now).
We had a roller coaster day today at my house. S started the day off this morning with the âwe are not letting you in right now, but we are still considering you for other scholarshipsâ email from USC. He saw me at lunch and was so down. Then, he called me about 45 minutes ago to tell me he was accepted to Northeastern and got a $15,000 scholarship. S is very excited because it is a great up and coming school (did I mention he loves hockey?) Then he got an email from the interviewer of a reach school telling him he just submitted his interview forms and that he gave S a great evaluation and highly recommended he be accepted and would be an asset to the campus. Both S and I know great interviews wonât get someone accepted to a campus, but bad interviews can keep someone from being accepted. It was so nice to hear him excited. Add to this the UCLA Regents invite and it has been a good week. The only bad part is if S ends up at NE he will be 3,000 miles away. So keep your head up @Booajo, we have been as gloomy as you feel.
Congrats to your S @Mysonsdad
Congrats to your son @Mysonsdad
Thank you @readingclaygirl and @carolinamom2boys
The USC email was not much of a surprise because he did not get his who,e application in on time. He had forgotten to send his supplemental essays.
My son also got into Northeastern he just doesnât know it yet. He is at Taekwondo and wonât be home for another few mins.
@Dragonflygarden, I saw that on the Class of 2020 acceptance thread. Congratulations to your S.
Congrats @Dragonflygarden
@Mysonsdad Great news on Northeastern and that was wonderful of the interviewer to let you know that.
@sseamom Your daughter has such an amazing streak of persistence that it will surely pay off many, many times for her.
@Booajo Very sorry to hear about the scholarship news, but some bad news today will be followed by good news as you grind through the process. We share that merit hunting strategy and ups and downs with you, but as Dâs own search winds towards some semblance of finality, it feels like fate and circumstance, good news and bad, are equally helpful in finding that right place and situation. Keep plugging away, and best of luck on the recent interview!!
Congrats! @Dragonflygarden <:-P
@Mysonsdad Super-duper Congrats! Sounds like things are aligning for your DS <:-P
So happy for him and you :bz
Congrats @dragonflygarden and @mysonsdad!
Congrats to you and your DS, @Dragonflygarden
My S was admitted EA. Welcome to the Husky Family!
@Mysonsdad Congrats on all the good news! Congrats to your son too @Dragonflygarden. @sseamom the idiosyncracies of the scholarship applications are certainly frustrating. Your daughter is smart not to let it get to her.
@mysonsdad Finally able to say congrats!!!
Congrats @Mysonsdad and @Dragonflygarden !!
The rational on the scholarship is that they ONLY send it directly to the college in question. I get that. But again, that should have been made clear on the app or the website. Thanks for all your commiserations on the loss. On the plus side, the science project is done, it works, and they have video to show on Saturday. Iâm sad about the format, though. No kids will have the actual project set up-just a specific type of slide show-20 in 20 (?) where they have 20 slides to show and 20 seconds to speak on each one, plus Q & A later. I like seeing the kidsâ raw materials though.
Like many of you, I wish we knew when the FA/scholarship packages are announced. So far weâve gotten one exactly a week after admission-with a graph in the admissions letter telling us that it was coming, and another weeks later. Then other invitations to apply for honors, with no timeline until we called and asked. And a few more for which we have no clue.
Sorry to hear about the receipt of bad news @Booajo, @sseamom and @Mysonsdad. I am glad that yours was at least quickly followed by good news @Mysonsdad ! Congratulations to everyone else that got good news today.
We have an odd data point to consider here. DS needs to commit to AP exams soon so we finally sat down and looked at the course catalogs and AP credit charts for his top 2. One requires higher AP exam scores for credit so he would get very little for his past exams. He should/could earn some credit this year but it will take really high scores so best not to overcommit. The other school would give him credit for nearly every AP he has taken already and he may even have more credits than he can use in one area if he takes all the exams for his AP classes this year. He could take one less class nearly every semester which would be a great head start on getting it all in in 4 years. The really weird part of it all is that the nearly no AP credit school is considerably more affordable, due to scholarship, than the lots of AP credit school. So, we would be paying considerably more for the privilege of NOT taking classes?!? Very strange. I will be contacting both schools to confirm that we have applied the credit policies correctly.
Congrats @Dragonflygarden !!
