@happymochi, sometimes it’s a relief to have a conventional child. Still–I hope he wore crazy socks and no shoes.
Our school district offers drivers’ ed. S19 will take it this summer. D16 has been driving for over two years, thank heaven. I don’t know how the rest of you get your kids where they need to be.
@critter, I am finding the net price calculators to be off by a lot. Northeastern was off by $30,000/year. S got an email from another school yesterday which, according to NPC was a financial reach. The email estimated his FA at about $5,000/year more than what the NPC estimated, which makes the school beyond a financial reach. So, unless something changes, that school will be off his list. And yes I have rechecked my FAFSA and college board NPC. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.
We also found our EFC on FAFSA very different from the NPCs. We were not expecting much help, but now we are expecting nada. And we have no funky finances–married, stable 2-parents who work and own nothing other than primary home.
Waiting to see how ours turns out. So far, we haven’t seen any of the need-based information from D’s schools or S’s. D has unexpected merit aid, which is lovely, but I assume it will stand in for need-based rather than stacking on top of it. Add to that the fact that our combined income went up considerably more than we expected it to (overall nice, but in terms of financial aid, not so much), and…who the heck knows? I’m just hoping the combined student debt won’t exceed the national deficit, at this point.
Anyone else dealing with IDOC deadlines? Ay yi yi. If he does happen to get into Cornell and doesn’t want to go there, I’m going to beg them to let me in in his place.
I didn’t realize how much I needed this comforting message from @blossom until I read it, and I thought it was worth sharing on this thread. Aloha Friday, my friends.
@CAMidwestMom Yes, I’m having so many problems with IDOC it’s not funny. I was trying to be so organized and uploaded all requested documents without realizing that I was supposed to put my Ds name and SS# on each document. So I uploaded another set of documents with everything there with my Ds name and SS#. Then when I checked the website yesterday there was an error message saying that they can’t send the information to the school because I need to upload my tax information. Now I have uploaded my tax information twice; one with my D’s name and one without it. Now they want me to upload it a third time??? So I called IDOC and they said not to do anything and that they see everything and the error message should be gone by tomorrow. Well tomorrow is today and the error message is still there. And according to Cornell they want to receive all the documents by Monday. I am having a hell of time with IDOC. And I’m like you. If by some chance she does get in and doesn’t want to go there, I’m begging too!!!
Yesterday was a good day for DS. He learned he passed his Tae Kwon Do black belt test that he took last Saturday and he earned his Silver Eagle Palm in Boy Scouts. I guess he has something to write in his deferral update now.
@mrsquietstorm9 I didn’t put S SS# on all of S documents. If they want the SS# so badly why not put a line for it instead of postinG it on another page and expecting everupyone to remember after filling everything out after looking at tax forms and getting signatures etc? I am figuring these schools are out of the running once they figur out how incompetent the parents look. Why admit kids whose parents can’t figure out simple instructions? That being said, IDOC did say that it isn’t a big deal if the SS#'s aren’t on there if it was uploaded. However, they did say that I need to resubmit my whole tax information again. They also said it would take 3-5 days before the message about submitting was gone. She also told me they get a lot of calls from parents who make mistakes and that resubmitted are okay.
@CAMidwestMom and @mrsquietstorm9 I’m having the same issues with IDOC. We just got in last Friday night because I kept trying to enter the two items I knew… not because I had the IDOC number yet. I was able to upload everything last Saturday. I also received the “Here is your ID number” on Saturday night, a little late! Anyway, I’ve had the supposed error message about needing the tax form. I’ve called Collegeboard twice and they keep telling me they can see it and don’t need it. I hope something isn’t being held up from sending to the school because of that error message. I am frustrated because I’ve really been on top of admissions documents, deadlines, etc… and somehow I feel like I slipped on the financial aid requirements. This is my first time doing it and I didn’t realize what all was involved. I’ve got it now(at least I hope I do), but I’ve had to jump through some hoops this week! However, even if I had known before, not being able to get into IDOC until last weekend really stressed me out.
IDOC done and processed. I did not add SS#s to the top of any forms since they are already on the forms where they need to be. I did black out my daughters’ SS#s on any form it was on. They have no need of that information.
@mrsquietstorm9, if you think about, colleges aren’t going to be printing up the forms so if they are uploaded they can just open your D file and see all the information.
@dyiu13 I wasn’t getting notifications and I thought the thread had gone quiet and then I noticed my bookmark had been unchecked. Other than that, I haven’t had problems.
Looks like UCR is sending out positive feelers. Although this is not a confirmed admission, but something to that effect.
“…because of your performance, we are recommending you for admission to the University of California, Riverside (UCR). You will be hearing from UC Riverside on your admission in March…”
UCR is our safety school and it is always good to have something in hand.
