Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Fingers crossed for S14 @AsleepAtTheWheel

Good Luck @AsleepAtTheWheel ! Just when you think you can breathe, something else pops up.

@AsleepAtTheWheel - I have to hand it to you catching up on this thread! I can’t read back more than a few pages (too ADD-ish). Welcome back!

Update because I’m not sure if I posted it here: DS got into UF. I was out of town, up at my parents, and I think the screams were heard down here in Florida. We really couldn’t believe it. UF is a bit tough on homeschoolers and we did not expect to get in. It was a sweet, sweet surprise.

Welcome back @AsleepAtTheWheel. I am amazed at your ability to read so many posts. At this time I can only skim them!

Congrats @SouthFloridaMom9 . He must have had an excellent teacher :wink:

@SouthFloridaMom9 - I am relieved to hear of any admission information on Homeschoolers since it looks like S20 will remain a homeschooler. I have been following your success on the homeschool admissions thread. I think I missed congratulating you before.

@AsleepAtTheWheel Look luck for your son.

@SouthFloridaMom9 Congrats!!!

Ha ha thank you @carolinamom2boys! He makes it easy. Great kid - I know you have one too. I haven’t been able to teach him anything math or science related since 7th/8th grade. :stuck_out_tongue:

@LKnomad - feel free to write anytime! The big thing with UF is to communicate with Sandy Hayden. She’s very helpful. They look for outside validation for the ā€œcoreā€ requirements. Dual enrollment, AP, FLVS, SAT II - all of these are ways to validate (basically look for accredited options). It’s just easy to run out of time. And THANK YOU!

Congratulations on the UF acceptance @SouthFloridaMom9

Congrats @SouthFloridaMom9! And good luck to DS#1, @AsleepAtTheWheel … That sounds like a really neat program, the business bachelors!

@AsleepAtTheWheel welcome back and good luck to your son with his application to the Business BA program.

@SouthFloridaMom9 congrats!

On the subject of room storage and the like, we got our son and his first year roommate waist high storage units that were intended for storage of CDs. They were like narrow /shallow book cases. They didn’t take up much floor space but allowed for alot of storage of paperback books, the dopp kits, coffee cups etc. I believe we got them at the Walmart that was in the little town where the school is.

@asleepatthewheel Does Emory offer something other than a bachelor of business administration? I am confused by Business BA.

We put down deposits for Temple today, so it’s getting real here. He’d probably be fine taking clothes, computer, bedding, towels, and dvds (film major).

Great news, @SouthFloridaMom9! I gather UF is pretty high up on his list?

Huge congrats to your son(and to his wonderful teacher!) @SouthFloridaMom9 <:-P and yay for depositing @mstomper

@texaspg – Regarding Emory:
Kids originally matriculate to the College of Arts and Sciences. The ā€˜College’ offers two degrees, a B.A. or a B.S., depending on the student’s major. You can double major, but you only get one degree (you can’t earn a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Chemistry even if you double major). Some majors give you a choice of a B.A. or a B.S. Kids who want to go into the business program apply to the business school and leave the ā€˜College’. They earn their B.B.A. from the business school, i.e., they do not get any degree from the ā€˜College’. However, to get that B.B.A. they still have to complete all of the gen ed/distibution requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Finally, Emory has a separate nursing school, where one can earn a B.S.N.
Now you know more than you’d ever want to know about what degrees one can earn at Emory.

Also, in reference to your prior note:

I didn’t read every word of all 2,000+ notes on the thread. There were many notes that were about technical aspects of the CSS, FAFSA, etc. or other stuff that allowed me to skip the note after reading one line. And there are a lot of short notes expressing either congrats or hugs that didn’t take more than a second to read. So the task was not as time-consuming as you might think.

A thread I’d like to start is one that compiles a list of all of the acronyms that are used on any and all of the CC threads. Imagine if you could list them all, from ACT to ZBT. There would be hundreds!!

@AsleepAtTheWheel there is an abbreviation post somewhere…

Congratulations from one homeschooler to another! So happy for you all! @SouthFloridaMom9

@AsleepAtTheWheel I earned a BBA–Bachelor of Business Administration. I had never heard of another school that offered a BBA until now!

@mstomper What happy news! Now you can relax until our May 1st BBQ.

Here’s the abbreviation post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/52585-abbreviation-thread.html#latest

Welcome back, @AsleepAtTheWheel ! Congrats to @DAPIStained @SouthFloridaMom9 and @mstomper. This process is really moving! We have another 4 to 6 weeks until all the decisions are in. Don’t have a college visit until later this month. Watching online tours to keep things interesting.

@happymochi and @AsleepAtTheWheel I thought that the BBA was normal and what everyone did. Way back in the day when I went to college (and the dinos roamed free) The University of New Mexico (my old college) offered a BBA - and still does. I just assumed all schools did! I just looked at their program and they seem to need a mid college application as well.
