@crowlady thank you for the information and the useful link, we’re looking forward to visiting Cornell.
@bookmom7 congratulations, you’re done!!! what a nice feeling…I sent the pdf without signing because the file included the page with the electronic signatures and I confirmed it was acceptable. But you did the most sure thing, good for you!
@cakeisgreat, congrats on the decision. Which Rutgers campus? @mysonsdad, so glad to hear about how much UCLA love there is. What a great school and + Regents, it is perfect. As @AsleepAtTheWheel says, now it’s just wondering whether DS will change his mind! @bookmom7, are you done too? Congrats!
Have a great time at your accepted students’ weekend @carolinamom2boys, and enjoy the CC meet-up…also, I love your good manners about not wearing competitor’s logowear. I agree this is in bad taste, but feel (and hope) that there often may be a reason.
Good luck to you and your DD as you make tough decisions, @Ballerina016–and yet, as you say, what a great place to be! I hope it becomes clear via visits and research.
Hugs to you and S19, @happymochi. Thinking of you.
@mysonsdad – Got it.
Risking repetition, when I read your note about him getting UCLA Regents I let out a big “YESSSSS”. What an honor, and what an incredible opportunity.
P.S. Am assuming from your note that he’s a hockey fan, yes? As I mentioned, S14 and I went to a Panthers game when we were in FL. Sat seven rows from the ice for $60/seat. Couldn’t do that here for the Sharks. We had an absolute blast. These guys skate exquisitely, and I couldn’t believe how quickly they can get off a shot. . . Of course you know Rodney Dangerfield’s joke: The other night I went to a boxing match, and a hockey game broke out!
@AsleepAtTheWheel although I grew up in Chicago, I didn’t become a hockey fan until I lived in Florida! Crazy, I know. I lived there during the team’s improbable Stanley Cup run. Fun memories. Now I live in the state of hockey, so it all works out.
S has not wanted to buy any college apparel at any of the schools we visited, including when we visited one last month that he had been admitted to. He does have college clothes from my alma mater, my D’s alma mater and my H’s alma mater and has continued to wear those (he has applied to two of the three, current had an admit to one of those). If he chooses D’s alma mater, he’ll have several items he can take with him - long and short sleeved T shirt, sweatshirt, etc. Will make sure he does not wear any of this to his admitted student visits. We’re cramming two in this week, his spring break. It equals one long car trip with me and one long car trip with H.
My 7th grade social studies teacher’s brother was the first So. Cal trained hockey player to make it to the NHL. The teacher had a hockey club and I have loved hockey ever since. The Kings have broke my heart so many times over the years that I was shocked when they won the Cup. Everything really changed when Gretzky came here.
D only has one college sweatshirt that she loves and bought her Sophmore year during a college road trip. She wore it often, but stopped right around the time acceptances started to come in. She didn’t apply there. DH regularly wears his bruin gear - he works on the stats crew during football season.
Thank you, everyone. My S19 had a possible eye injury, and we didn’t want to take a chance. The doctor thinks he’ll heal quicky and recommended we take a wait and see approach. Feeling relieved. b-(
@happymochi Good news for what was surely a scary situation! I hope he and you are both feeling better (-:
@happymochi How did I miss your trip to the ER. What a week it has been for injury and your family. I hope everything is OK!
Hi all,
Without going into too much detail, I would just like to recommend if at all possible complete an accepted weekend and an overnight. It provided us great info to make an informed decision with info that is only available during an overnight.
DS’s favorite Tshirt is from the school that rejected him :(. Guess he won’t be wearing that one anymore.
When we were touring Macalester a few years ago, there was an entire family in Harvard Tshirts. Always sort of wondered what happened with them…
@happymochi glad to hear he’s doing better but be careful with that eye injury!
@happymochi Glad he’s ok!
hmmmm @carolinamom2boys - kind of makes me wonder if it is ‘good’ information or ‘bad’ information? :-/
Glad you got what you needed to help you make a decision.
I am also wondering, @carolinamom2boys. Looking forward to the point when you can share.
@happymochi, glad to hear that it’s mostly okay.
Just received word from D16, and had her send me the notice from her portal to be extra sure, but it definitely looks like she was awarded the Eugene DuPont Memorial Scholar’s award at University of Delaware!!! Full ride plus perks and enrichment money. She was down I the dumps yesterday because her team didn’t place top ten in the Science Olympiad we moved heaven and earth to get her to from Florida (they finished a few points back in 11th, still the best her school has ever done, but she was bummed as team Captain), and now the roller coaster takes a decidedly powerful upwards trajectory! She still has one accepted student visit in early April before she makes her call, but I have to think this moves UD to the top of her list at the moment!! (-:
Just had a conversation with my DS yesterday about the overnight he went on. It really made him more comfortable about committing and he is looking forward to going back this summer to stay again when he meets his academic advisor and schedules his classes. He has even listed the dorm he stayed in as his first choice.
D16 got three shirts from tours last year. Two were given to the kids for touring and one she purchased. The one she purchased is the school she will be attending. I should have known then that this was the route she would take. She does not purchase shirts lightly lol.
Congrats @Skates76
