Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@LKnomad, ugh!!! And the same sentiment for anyone else having to undergo verification–what a huge pain!

Congrats to everyone with good news. This is such an exciting time. My son decided that his decision was final and so he opted not to interview for the $25,000 scholarship for which he was a finalist. So, we really are done! We were not chosen for verification so we are done dealing with FAFSA.

He will be attending his dad’s alma mater so he already had some paraphernalia from the school. When we visited in the fall, he bought two t-shirts and wears one of them frequently. He received two more t-shirts and he also has a travel mug. The most recent thing that I bought him was luggage tags with the school’s emblem. I think I am done for a while. :smiley:

@Justathought1 C.O.N.G.R.A.T.S ! ! ! <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P

@waitingtoexhale - my daughters struggle - with my expectations for them. :slight_smile: School and college seem to be lot easier for them to handle.

@ballerina016 - MIT won’t admit someone who can’t hack it. Many of the girls/women I know who attended MIT are quite successful after graduation. The goal in college is no different - run your own race and not worry about how well someone else is doing compared to you.

@texaspg Same here, My daughters both struggle with the standards and expectations I have/had for both of them. Now that D14 is is school I am letting her find her own way. She has made some mistakes but so far is keeping her head above water. D16 will be attending a school where she is not going to be the smartest, or the most well off. I think she will do well though. We have always stressed doing your best and if you struggle seek help. Her school and my D14’s school both offer free tutoring. D14 has actually taken advanatge of it a couple of times. In the high school that would have never happened.

Heading out for DS16’s Eagle Scout’s Court of Honor ceremony . He’s very excited because the Eagle charge is being given by his Academic Team Coach and favorite teacher that taught him APUSH last year. He’s known my son for his entire HS career and wrote him some amazing LORs. So proud of him. One more “last” before he graduates HS. :-bd

@carolinamom2boys <:-P <:-P <:-P :)>-

Enjoy every minute @carolinamom2boys! One more last and so many good things ahead!

Congrats to your son on becoming an Eagle Scout! @carolinamom2boys That’s a huge accomplishment and having that teacher be part of it makes it even more special. <:-P

Thanks everyone.

Enjoy the ceremony, that is a great accomplishment. @carolinamom2boys! What was his eagle scout project?

Congratulations @carolinamom2boys ! I’m sure you are extremely proud!

He built a seating area with 4 concrete patios and hand built benches at his old middle school. He coordinated 35 volunteers to do the site work, but he made the benches @labegg

@carolinamom2boys Congrats to your S on a wonderful accomplishment.

Congrats to those with decisions made.

And boo for those with financial verifications.

I’m have a bit of a hard time keeping all of today’s news straight as I am on my phone. Just spent several hours driving with S for an admitted student event he has tomorrow. My H is taking him to another one on Friday. That is another 5 hour drive in a different direction. Really hope these visits provide clarity for S to help with the decision that I know won’t happen for a few more weeks.

Question on dress code for midweek gathering organized by local alumni. Will casual dress code no jeans be appropriate?
