Ok I just put “pertussis; door stop” on my list.
Hello all from our spring break location in So Cal. Life’s been super busy, so it’s been awhile since I posted. Will catch up on postings later, but wanted to send best wishes to everyone waiting for those final decisions today! Most of S’s friends are among them, so sending positive thoughts out to all!!
That’s where I am, but I’m afraid S may not face a dual denial with as much equanimity. :sigh:
Add mine to the grandparentless club. Four of the five grandparents passed away before they were born, and the last (my mother) last year. But she was mad as a bag of cats for several years before (yes, you do hear a note of estrangement there), so they never had a relationship with her. We’ve adopted a couple of grandparents instead, and they love and adore them-- so that has worked out pretty well.
Most everything in my wardrobe is black. His school options would be limited!
Re: vaccines
We had well-kid appointments in August (time for band and ROTC physicals), and I basically told our pede to shoot them with everything she had. I am not an anti-vaxer, having been exposed to rubella whilst pregnant. I think they’re not immunized against cholera or the bubonic plague, but that’s about it.
Aaaaannnnd…on the plus side, I’m following fewer CC threads now.
::sigh::
Aw, I’m sorry petrichor11.
My son is on a gap year, but I can tell you last year, he got into exactly one high reach school, U Penn, and was rejected at four and WL at two. One affordable school was the goal here.
Yeah, I’d actually settle for that, but until we hear from three of the five he’s got into, we’re batting zero so far.
Thank you though.
Ah @petrichor11 - I so know how you feel!! S sent a very brief message saying he had been rejected …ugh, what wouldn’t I give to be with him right now. Text messages and email doesn’t cut it…
I actually wish he’d decided to attend the school that he liked best, which was UAH (admit rate of 82%). It was a much better fit personally, but he needed the gap year, so all public schools fell off the list because they don’t do gap years for the most part.
@petrichor11 I’m sorry that the school your were waiting on did not come through. Keeping my fingers crossed that there re great FA packages coming your son’s way!
Sorry for everyone facing disappointment today. In all honesty, as disappointing as it is , it will help clarify things once the initial sting wears off.
@petrichor11 sending good thoughts your way for FA.

Wow! Congratulations, frenchtoastlover!! Your student is going to have some major decisions!
Congrats @frenchtoastlover ! Have you ranked your acceptances?
@frenchtoastlover Given your choices, you still have Vassar highly ranked? What happened to Columbia on the list.
D doesn’t text me today’s results. She texts to ask if she needs to provide me with anything for the financial aid appeal I’ve launched for her favorite acceptance. I can guess the answer to today’s schools.
Just like @carolinamom2boys said – clarity. My baby girl has a school she loves, and I’m going to everything I can to find a way to get her there. D’s high school years have been unusual, often lonely, and sometimes crushingly sad. I know she is going to bloom in college, and I can’t wait to secure the perfect garden to do that in. Now, if I could just find a way to grow a money tree in this garden.
My ohana on this thread has been an amazing resource for good advice and even more so, kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Annnndddd, congrats @frenchtoastlover ! We can’t wait to hear where you will choose to eat your frenchtoast for the next four years!
Woops @texaspg, thank you for pointing that out! It’s too late to edit, so I’ll make another post with Columbia included.
And thank you very much all! @sbjdorlo @RyanG1207 @texaspg Vassar is still definitely high on my list. I think my final choices are coming down to Yale, Vassar, and Dartmouth.

No for D from Columbia. She’s fine with it (as am I). Glad she shot high. All decisions in, 9/10 acceptances.
^ Sorry about Columbia, but 9/10??? That’s amazing!!
