Parents of the HS Class of 2017 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

Thanks for the heads up…checked the UVM portal and D got 8K Trustees scholarship. Not as nice as what the rest of you got, but I my D has lower stats than your kids. I am actually pretty psyched about it bc I wasn’t expecting anything at all. And it may be enough to keep it as a contender.

UVM is thanks to my S actually! It’s so funny. I checked the portal yesterday and knew he’d gotten in. He didn’t mention it or ask about it so I didn’t say anything based on his comment about liking the packet and “what’s a week”. But then I got worried that maybe he thought I knew and it was a no, and wasn’t telling him so figured I’d call on the email thing at least.

After realizing that his email did bounce and having them resent, I wondered when or if he would see (he is HORRIBLE about checking email).

Turns out he actually checked it in English, pretty much when it came in. Even funnier as he looked at the first email which was the "announcement coming soon, check the portal at 5est (yesterday) and didn’t even see the giant YES email that followed. So the kid couldn’t figure out what “admit” meant on the portal, whether he was in or not. Took a friend to tell him to scroll up and he saw it. He also saw the scholarship link there and texted a picture of it it to me later.

Suffice to say it’s the first real reaction around here. Kid is pretty excited. He is trying to keep calm as he does know it is about money but it does keep it in play and less than that would have knocked it out. I was really worried it would be less and definitely didn’t expect more so I’m pretty happy too. While the NPC showed 15k, it was due to fudging a rank number when I really have no idea, just trying to guess at what they might interpret his info at. It’s a stretch of the budget to be sure but one that may be worth really considering.

So it looks like we are headed to Vermont in Feb. BRRRR! Bummer as we will just miss an admitted students day but it what it is.

I haven’t yet told him the email bounced and I had it resent (or that I gave them his other email lol). I figure that can wait.

Beloit. Yeah! (And I echo your BRRRR!)

Asked S17 at dinner tonight if he’d checked the portal for UofO. He’s been checking it daily. I guess that means they won’t decided by the EA date… (that would have been today). But I do get the impression they are doing rolling admits so he might still hear soon. Hopefully…

And I have no idea if it says anything about ‘Holistic Review’ because I’m not the one looking at the portal.

@93pilots is that an acceptance at Beloit?

:D/ S17 admitted Early Decision – Christopher Newport University (in-state) :D/

Yes, sorry for brevity! Son is pretty jazzed.

@eandesmom, can you remind me: is your son interested in theater?

Lol @93pilots that’s fabulous!!! Great school. Congratulations! It’s fun to see actual excitement

@MomStudent2017 congrats on ED results at Christopher Newport! You’re done!

@rosered55 yes, theater tech as an EC or job but not as a major or minor.

@eandesmom – thanks for posting about UVM merit awards - I was actally done with portal stalking for the day, and would have missed out on more good news -$18K award! Yay for UVM showing $$-love to our kids.

woot woot! Congrats to MomStudent2017 on the ED to CNU! =D> I think Christopher Newport’s reputation is getting stronger every year - It’s great when student knows where he wants to go, and gets in before winter break! No more application worries! Fingers crossed for everyone else still waiting for those EDs.
And congrats to 93pilots-child too on Beloit! =D>

My nephew at UVM is majoring in environmental studies and might double major or minor in theater. He has been in a few plays and done theater tech work as well, I think. I’m excited for you and your son!

Yay for all the UVM merit money to all!
I am so relieved it can still be in play lol.

@rosered55 that is great to hear, it seems like he would have nice theater and music options there and great options for either environmental science or studies. It’s definitely a front runner in his mind.

Spoke too soon. S17 just checked. Accepted at University of Oregon.!!! Now he feels like he is going to college. He just needs to finish H.S first. Big relief… now to just finish those last two apps, and wait till March for everyone else before a final decision.

Congrats to @MomStudent2017 for the ED decision.

Congrats to @93pilots as well… It’s so hard to keep up.

Back at you @curiositycat333. Also @MomStudent2017, how amazing to have it all squared away. And @eandesmom for money and for son’s reaction. I love Burlington and though UVM was not on the radar at our house am excited to see everyone’s happy news.

Yay for your son and U of Oregon @curiositycat333 !

YAY @curiositycat333 !!! That made my night  congratulations!!!

If the information you put into the NPC was accurate, make sure you check with the school that it has all the right information. For my daughter, the NPC said she should receive the 2nd tier scholarship but got the 3rd. When I called (after being transferred a few times) it turned out they didn’t have the latest ACT score (part of the double file mix up). It meant $20k more over the 4 years.

@endesmom @CAtransplant It must have come in today because he told me at dinner he has been checking daily. Although who knows… he said he had to dig for it a bit. Why you wouldn’t make it really obvious I have no clue.

It might feel more real when he get the notification in the mail. Although he did say… “This means I’m going to college” and then qualified it with long as I can manage to graduate H.S. One of the downsides to UofO is it’s expensive for out -of-state and DS is unlikely to qualify for any scholarships.
