Redesigned SAT (for fall 2017 applicants and beyond): For students taking the redesigned SAT (beginning March 2016), Rensselaer will not require the writing portion of the test be taken (unless you are applying for one of our accelerated programs in law or medicine- see below). For students taking both the old and new versions of the test, both scores will be considered; however, we will not “super score” across the different test formats.
For students applying for fall 2017 and beyond, Rensselaer will not require students who choose to submit the ACT to take the optional writing section.

Beginning with the entering class of 2017, we will accept scores from the current SAT, the redesigned SAT, or the ACT. Optional essay sections will not be required.

The redesigned SAT will be administered beginning March 2016. In accordance with the changes made to the exam, Tufts has revised its testing requirements for applicants for the Class of 2021 and beyond.
Tufts will require either the SAT (without the optional essay) plus two SAT Subject Tests, or the ACT (the writing section will no longer be required.) You may submit SAT essay scores or ACT writing scores to Tufts if you choose to sit for these sections, but please note that they are not required and sending them will not increase a student’s likelihood of admission.

The SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT is required for all first-year applicants. Beginning in spring 2016, the redesigned SAT will be available to students applying for entry in fall 2017 and after. (Please note: The writing section of the ACT is optional and the essay section of the redesigned SAT will be optional once it’s administered.)

Applicants are required to submit either the SAT or the ACT. We do not require the optional Essay section of the SAT or the optional Writing section of the ACT. If submitted, scores from those sections will not be considered in our application review.

CWRU AO also said they will not look at Writing beginning 2017 at the college fair. Their website has not yet been updated.
