Congrats on the acceptances to UMD and UNC and the Presidential Scholar Nomination. My DD also got the nomination today. The Presidential Scholar Program sent the emails to me rather than to my DD. My friend’s daughter won last year and we attended the award ceremony. DD is not enthused about filling out another application and I hear that this one is a bear. I am truly amazed by all of you that have kids who have completed over 20 applications.
Saving college junk mail: We’ve saved every piece, just to see how much there would be. D17 is approaching two book-size (~2 cubic feet each) moving boxes full.

Did anyone else’s DC get Notre Dame’s email for merit scholarship nomination? Seems like the “application” is a 25-minute online personality test and a 5-minute video response to a prompt about goals/service/passions to be submitted through slide room. Hey, at least it’s not another essay, though we’ve had no prior experience submitting video.
@dfbdfb @dolemite @Testingearly @DMV301 and @cleoforshort Congrats on the Presidential Scholars Program nomination! Question for you all - do you think it’s worth applying? It seems like it doesn’t help with college admissions (notification too late) and would be unlikely to help much for grad school (too far in the past). My D is not excited about the prospect of more essays!
@mamaedefamilia There are a number of CCers with children that were Presidential Scholars including @AngelaD and @Hunt that could shed more light on the “is it worth it question”

@STEM2017 - Congrats on ASU. My DD has lots of friends who went to Barrett. Of course, it being 20 minutes from our house, neither of my children would apply. Good luck on Barrett! That campus within a campus is really cool.

QOTD: Has anyone put a enrollment deposited in and applied for housing at a school they aren’t sure their DC will go to? If so have you ever heard of a school giving someone a hard time about getting out of the contract? I am thinking of putting a deposit somewhere to get in the housing pool but we can’t visit until April. I’m okay loosing my deposit but just want to make sure they will let him out if he ultimately decides to go somewhere else…Help?
Congrats to all whose kids made Prez Scholars. My ds also received Presidential Scholars. He said there are SIX additional essays (I’m assuming some are shorter than others). After writing application, merit schollie, and Honors college essays, he is not enthused. Are your kids planning to submit the material to make semi finalist?

Sorry, lbf, I can’t seem to tag you, but I’m going to do the deposit thing for D17’s third choice school, just because it’s the only one she hasn’t seen yet. I checked on the school’s thread (UA), and they told me it would be no problem to reverse her enrollment. Could you ask the same on your school’s thread?
We are going to put in a housing deposit at USC and visit in April.
Unsure about continuing with Prez Scholars. Lots of essays. And very little possibility of being the one boy selected from our state in the end. But nice to be asked anyway
