Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

@Dave_N hugs to your D. My D got the same letter two years ago, and an email about not advancing in the Stamps competition as well.

But she is a very happy sophomore at Pitt, and we are thankful for the opportunities she has there.

@carachel2 Sorry I meant no Chancellor’s Interview invite or rejection letter yet. She got an email 12/15 saying that her Chancellor’s application was complete.

As far as Pitt Tuition Exchange goes they get about 325 requests for 25-30 slots each year. Apparently USCal gets less requests than students going out so basically all requests are fulfilled.

edit: Just logged into the Chancellor’s portal and under status it says “All materials submitted - Being Reviewed”

@dfbdfb Congrats on the acceptance to U of Alaska! We have some (distant) family near there. I have not yet been. I hope she finds some CC friends to contact for Alabama!

@Dolemite Wow, that’s wonderful she got the full tuition scholarship at Pitt! Good for her. Good luck on Chancellor’s!

Where did everyone go?

Today’s good news: D received a full ride to IU Kelley School of Business! IU has an Arabic flagship and Kelley is a great business school, so it’s a strong contender.

@itsgettingreal17 that is fantastic!

I was busy shoveling snow…

I was busy moderating FB group :wink:

Congrats @itsgettingreal17 !!!

I think everyone is in a holding pattern waiting on acceptances, I know I am… the next two months will be very long.

Congratulations @itsgettingreal17 !!! Wonderful and exciting news. We have been waiting to hear from the Jefferson Scholar Foundation. DD had a 1st round interview for the Jefferson Scholarship on Saturday. Someone she knows who interviewed 40 minutes before her, received an email yesterday that she would not be moving forward in the competition and her status on the portal changed. So far my DD has received no notification. She doesn’t think she will be moving on to the next round but she just wants to know.

@itsgettingreal17 Congratulations to your daughter!

@itsgettingreal17 - Congrats to D – sounds like a great fit (and you can’t beat the price!). And congrats to @dfbdfb’s D on pro forma Alaska. It’s nice to know you’re wanted even if it’s not reciprocated.

And congrats to anyone I’ve missed. @Dolemite’s got mixed news re: TE, so congrats on USC and hugs for Pitt.

Sorry about Chancellor’s @Dave_N.

We also got some disappointing news - D17 didn’t advance to the next level with CocaCola :frowning: Not surprising, but disappointing.

@itsgettingreal17, Congrats. D is on quite the roll…

@itsgettingreal17 Congrats on IU Kelley!!

@mommdc Where is the snow?

@LoveTheBard Oh, sorry to hear about the Coke scholarship. Boo on them.

@socalmom007 Nope, all acceptances are in. Now I’m waiting for the end of March, when we’ll visit the campuses and D17 can make a final decision. Then it will be OVER!!!

(Oh yeah, we’re also waiting for possible notification of scholarships from UMD.)

@nerdMom88 You are lucky! @socalmom007 we are in a waiting pattern! Any updates with the b/f’s move?

@Fishnlines29 no, no news. The father has been ambiguous. Yes, we’ll figure out a way to pay for your college, no maybe we won’t. They’re the type that if it’s a top 10 or 20 school they’ll figure it out just to say “my son goes to Brown or Penn” etc… if he doesn’t get into those high profile choices, I don’t know. Trying to make sure there are back up plans for the back up plans.

@itsgettingreal17 congrats to your D. That is great news.

@Dave_N and @LoveTheBard , stinkers on not moving on in scholarship chase.

Still just treading water here, Not much new, although son got a teacher to send in a LOR for a DECA scholarship he would be eligible for at school he was deferred from. He’s basically done everything he can to show them the love, so now just sit and wait and see if he gets in during RD round. Not holding my breath on that decision. We are also waiting to hear on merit $$ from another school in a few weeks. Other than that, boring!!

Good luck to all of your kids this week!

@Fishnlines29, we had a snow day in PA yesterday.

@RightCoaster boring here too. The waiting is painful. D surprised me by saying she wants to attend the admitted students day for Rutgers COEngineering. (She has been anti-R since the start - it was my parent pick). We’ve been waiting on financial info from Rutgers for several weeks, it’s still not out and I was hoping to have more leverage to give her to consider.

Editing: @mommdc Wow. I just flew back home into Philly last night, but live on the Jersey side. Didn’t realize it snowed!

General Question: For the scholarship apps, when they ask why you got a grade lower than a B, how are you supposed to answer that? D had to explain a C she got in her freshman year and quite frankly, I think her answer wasn’t that great. Oh well.

We’re in treading water mode here too. Just waiting to hear from places. :-w D seems to have survived her quarterly exams last week, and now she’s relieved to finally have the semester over so she can relax, at least a little bit. Although the applications for local scholarships will be coming up in a couple weeks, so she’ll have to start cranking out a few more essays…

She’s regretting having taken AP Studio Art. It’s a shame, really, as art had always been her sanctuary class amidst a heavy academic schedule, but this year it’s not working out that way. Previous classes have been fairly relaxed in terms of the amount of outside time required, but this one is taking a lot to finish out the portfolio concentration – which makes it not so relaxing anymore! (I’m sure @motherofdragons is going ‘yep, yep, yep!’ :slight_smile: )
