@carachel2 I don’t blame you for being cautious, but seriously, Congratulations!!! that’s really exciting for her and all of you, I’m sure! Good luck with Chancellor’s - are you all going on a road trip?!
Funny you should mention the memory of a lay-off! We went through a few bad years after the crash in 2008. Unemployment, underemployment, rocky new job. Oy. That kind of thing sticks with you.
Just this week, I’ve taken note of how many of my decisions & thoughts seem to have an element of fear hovering in the background. I’m cautious. No, flat out fearful, of going through that again!
It all came to a head this last week, after yet another unpleasant interaction with one of my clients. Talking with H and a few close friends, they all asked me why I don’t drop the client. But, but, but…we need the money, I protested (see: fear mentioned above, memory of unemployment, and no amount of money will make me feel 100% safe).
My loved ones said, but there will be new clients! And there is no room for new clients because you are clinging to this client who is demoralizing and sucks the joy out of work.
It was like DING DING DING. I’m going to drop the client, lose the income from that job, but other doors will open, right? I haven’t even officially pulled the trigger yet, but I already feel lighter.
Anyways, just chiming in to say, I know what you mean! That kind of job loss shock leaves it mark.
@midwest67 and @carachel2 Ditto, I was laid off in 2008. My job is also dependent on keeping clients. - We recently fired a client that was sucking the life out of us, it was a game changer!! Just do it!
I do expect to pay a significant amount of D’s college costs directly from income.
@paveyourpath I am “one and done” as well. That does give us more options!
@carachel2 Yay!
@mommdc – thanks for all the help and insight you have offered along the way!
I would look at the whole college thing very differently if I was one and done… yikes, 4 to put through school over here. I’ve learned a lot in the last year though, number 3, who’s a great test taker, will be steered toward many automatic scholarship schools… instead of you could go to prestigious school, A, B, or C… the conversation is more- you can go for free.
@socalmom007 - agreed. Our rough and expensive start (IVF is $20k plus each time!) stunk at the time and I still get a little wistful at the large family that was not to be. But it does simplify the college search process for sure!
@carachel2, for the record, I would be just as happy if your D attended UA, I have heard great things about that school.
@mommdc – oh I know!! You’ve just been invaluable with the Pitt assistance and you are truly appreciated.
@momocarly that seems unfair of them to ask you to make a decision without having all of the information. Maybe if you call both sides one will adjust for you to be able to make an informed decision. Even if it feels like a better option you should have all of the facts. Good Luck!!
Congrats @STEM2017 on the ASU acceptance and scholarship!
@mamaedefamilia Great news on Dickinson!
@nocturne21 Wohoo on the Big Mac!!
@ACT2017 Congrats on UICI!
@crazym0m Kudos on all the good news!
Hugs to any I missed with good news or not so good news.
Our senior pictures have to be taken early in the year as the use the photos for the yearbook.
School orders and pays for the cap and gown so don’t have to worry about that. Restaurant booked for
the June Graduation lunch. Still need to order announcements…too much to do before then to worry about it like where is DS going to College :((
@carachel2 - congratulations and all the best with additional scholarship money!!
Our graduation is on May 22 also @dfbdfb. I just wrote the check for the cap and gown.
Graduation is June 18. Lots of time post AP. However not all kids take the AP test so there will be finals in all classes.
Senior pics and cap and gown were done long ago.
Are we going to start changing avatars to school mascots/images/etc on this thread? I think some people had reservations on 2016 thread, but don’t remember why. @carachel2, you start…or you EDers.
I won’t change my avatar to the school logo or mascot because I’d have to do a collage between D15 and S17s schools.
Does Faber have a mascot?
Congrats @carachel2 !!! What a ride it has been.
@mtrosemom collages are good!
Congrats @carachel2. A nice way to finish this part of the journey
@carachel2 – congrats to you D on Pitt and best of luck with the scholarship!
