QOTD: D will likely make the decision by early to mid-April. She was accepted EA into her top choice, and we received a financial aid package that makes it affordable, so she has emotionally committed to that school already. But I’m making her wait until RD results are in and we visit her other affordable choices before officially committing. I don’t expect her to change her mind, but this whole process is so crazy that you never know. I’m hopeful we’ll be done before April 20th though.
QOTD: all options remain on the table until Ivy Day, March 30. Have some great options now but want to weigh all acceptances and FA packages. Congratulations to all those who know already!
@jesse’sgirl Welcome to the forum and congrats on all the acceptances!
@LoveTheBard I feel the confusion! I guess our D17’s, although soon to be Class of 2121, will forever be '17 on cc! I suppose it could otherwise get confusing with some of our kids graduating college at different times, maybe heading on to grad school, etc. I think we’ll be friend here for a long time!
UF: I think some folks accidentally lumped me in with the congrats on this one when I was really trying to congratulate @STEM2017 - D17 did not apply but thanks anyway!
@Testingearly Wow, excited to hear about your D becoming a semifinalist for the Jefferson Scholarship! Congrats! Why was the interview terrifying!?
@IABooks Well it’s about time! I really don’t understand why that drag that NMF process out either, it seemed so frustrating for many and it just would have been nice to have it in hand sooner with the entire app process. Well, congrats to your son!
@botcom Congrats on BU! Sounds like you got a great deal to me!!
@cleoforshort Glad to hear your D is sleeping well! That’s a gift!
QOTD: We wait to hear from D’s top choice school this week (cross your fingers for us!!), hopefully it will be good news and our search ends. If it’s a no go, then we wait until April RD acceptances come in.
QOTD: The decision will be made as soon as DS gets his first choice (ND) admission decision. So, roughly, March 20th. If it’s a no, he’ll be off to Santa Clara.
DD has 3 regular CA schools outstanding, the UC’s and Cal Poly. Probably will have to visit/revisit schools if she doesn’t get accepted to her favorite. I told her if she makes a decision before spring break (4/13), we could go to Disneyland… she is a big Disney fan… me, not so much. Trying to give her an incentive not to drag it out. DS ED’d and is done.
@Fishnlines29 - I guess congratulating you on someplace your D did not get into makes up for my neglecting to congratulate whoever did…
In any event, everybody, please accept a blanket congrats to all on good news and hugs for disappointing news.
Unlike @IABooks, we still have not received notification about NMF. Hmmm. D’s counselor told her she had some good news for her but couldn’t tell her until the following day, but D assumed it was the Emory scholars because the news about that came in the next day.
We’ve had an interesting development on the UC front: UCLA sent her stuff to fill out for a Regents scholarship (they specifically said it wasn’t an offer of admission, but it’s probably not a bad sign. Berkeley, on the other hand, sent her an email to assure her that even though she may have heard about others getting in and even though she was not among those select few, she is in the RD pile and will find out when she finds out. Ummm, thanks?!?
One more day until the big reveal about the super secret scholarship semifinalist status… Any guesses? Lol.
@Testingearly and @SincererLove - why were the scholarship interviews so grueling? I’m holding out a very, very small hope that D17 will be considered for the Jefferson at large (D’s is not a nominating school).
(So, for those of you playing the Secret Scholarship Guessing Game, you can scratch Jefferson off the long short list)
And it may be a moot point, since D17’s SCEA acceptance is calling (screaming!) out her name…here’s hoping somebody makes her an offer she can’t refuse…
As for the QOTD - Probably not until close to May 1st. We put a $55 non-refundable deposit down at USC because their housing priority depends on when you sign up, but we may not have scholarship info at some places until April.
Been trying to keep up with all the recent activity. I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to save the desktop from S23’s unfortunate downloading and installing of spyware and worse
Congrats to all the good news!
D will most likely still be deciding up until 5/1 unless something magical happens beforehand. She has an interview next week for a school. Trying to schedule a scholarship finalist interview, visiting a school over President’s day at their diversity event, and waiting and hoping for 1 more scholarship result that has a finalist weekend as well. Oh yeah making her apply for the Presidential Scholars thingy too. We are all going to LA for vacation in mid-April and D can visit USC. In-laws coming for a month from South America in March and I’m tagging along with DW for a few days to Seattle while she attends a conference. Whew! And probably more than anyone cares to know but I’m a little loopy from all the reboots and scans
@LoveTheBard – I have NO idea. We made D apply but she didn’t do any of the Honors or scholarship apps because she felt she couldn’t truly convey any love for the school.
Clearly they feel the same because she has not been admitted to even her major yet. I’m not expecting a dime from them.
@Dave_N - Nope and nope. Gates is too STEM-y and D never got beyond semifinalist for Coke. Also, this is a school-based scholarship, not a private one.
@itsgettingreal17 No, news yet about Robertson. But fingers are crossed on that one and the AB Duke. Someone posted on another thread that they called and were told that Robertson announces on Feb 17th, in case anyone is interested.
QOTD: at the absolute last minute is my guess. If 11:59pm on May 1st is the last minute, then that would be the time.
He has been admitted to four schools that we never visited, making me question the usefulness of all those Jr year visits. Awaiting responses from ten more, including two we never visited. Meanwhile, he ended up not applying to a few we did visit and interview/attend class, etc.
This process has not been as smooth as I would have hoped for as a second time parent.
He is supposed to be writing essays for honors programs for a couple of the admits, but has not touched them yet. Instead he is fully engaged with all of his ECs that were neglected during the endless months of applications last fall. I can’t blame him as high school is supposed to be fun. My idea of fun would not be full day math competitions or spending tonight on a three or four hour coding contest, but these things make him happy.
Sending positive vibes to all awaiting decisions and HUGE CONGRATS to all the amazing acceptances and scholarship invites!!!
Right, I just thought someone had asked about when colleges send acceptances. I thought April 1 was the latest. Any later than that and there isn’t time to revisit colleges before making a decision.
