@Fishnlines29 - I think she felt okay. It was certainly not her best – but far from her worst – interview to date. Hopefully, it’ll be enough to make it to the next stage.
@Dolemite - I wouldn’t count on that for WUSTL. I think these weekends are generally de rigueur for the big named scholarships. Then again, I was surprised that Vandy didn’t require it. Congrats on Smith!
@thermom, Congrats on Smith. Love that part of the state. Great college area.
@LoveTheBard, it never ends. Giving a standing ovation…BTW, what is Mosaic? A scholarship weekend? Was there a separate app we missed? just wondering…
I think i owe a few more congrats. So hard to keep up. To those I missed, Congrats…
@stencils, when I her about Smith (which my daughter has applied to, as well, so we’ll have to watch the mail closely), I tend to think of the webcomic Questionable Content (where it appears as Smif College).
@socalmom007 - I did some overnights when I was applying to college, but S17 did not (he spent 2 summer in a college dorm as part of a program, plus other times as well). Some schools advertise this more than others. I think it is more for the kids applying than for anything official for the application.
@CA1543 thanks for the invite for us 16s to share our experiences! You’re all coming down to the last few months of craziness so hang in there! Last year I went through the madness and am now happily seeing my D enjoy her freshman year.
One suggestion for those of you who are still undecided is attend the accepted student days in quick succession if at all possible. It made it easier to compare.
And give your future college student extra hugs even if they are making you nuts! Having them gone for long stretches is a change from knowing their daily comings and goings but it’s great to see how they grow so independent by being on their own.
Thanks for your suggestions @veehee ! Accepted student days are upon some of us and there will be more in March & April. Kind of hard to image DS gone for long stretches though he did go to a few summer programs at colleges in other states so we have had a taste of it. Glad your D is enjoying her freshman year.
Just to see if I understand WUSTL - is the idea that if you applied for a scholarship, you might hear very soon that you’re a finalist, in which case you know you were accepted? But if you just applied RD but not for a scholarship, you won’t hear anything until mid March?
@thshadow - Yes, that’s my understanding of the WUSTL process. It sounds like scholarships might be announced next week. My D is not a contender as she didn’t apply for a scholly. In fact, she applied to WUSTL on a whim at about 11:00pm on 1/15! I don’t think she’s getting accepted there at all as they like to see a lot of interest and she hadn’t even heard of them until her friend got in ED. Lol
I could use some advice. My son is still waiting on several RD applications. He has received 2 emails from financial aid officers regarding filling out fafsa so they can provide a complete financial aid package. We are not planning to submit fafsa or ccs profile to any school. Do you think son should respond back noting that so they can update their files and just finish his application up?
@rightcoaster I would let them know so they don’t think they are waiting for anything to complete the application. Are they generic emails or personal emails to him?
@lbf they were semi generic letters that I’m sure went out to their applicants missing the fafsa.
Each was signed with a name, and their financial aid job title. He could easily respond back. I’m thinking he should out of courtesy I guess.
@RightCoaster Why not fill out the FAFSA? (Although it might be difficult if you are away)
I was hightly recommended to do so even though we are unlikely to receive much if any FA. The reason to do so is because for many universitiess the FAFSA is required and considered the application even for MERIT aide. And my D did get offers of work study even if there was no money. I have one of my son’s financial aide brochures and the procedure to apply for scholarships even if you even want the small merit ($3K) they offer is to finish the FAFSA.
@curiositycat333 I’m lazy and I’m 1000% certain we will receive no aid. Merit is considered even if he doesn’t fill it out at all of his schools.
My thinking is this: I decided not to fill out the fafsa because our last few years of income have been high, and we’ve managed to save a lot and we own multiple houses free and clear, blah blah blah. . I’d rather not let the schools know this, and if they want to discount the tuition so be it. I think if they saw our financials we’d not be considered for anything.
@rightcoaster we have gotten he same emails and just delete them as we would not qualify for any aid either. If they are generic I think they just send them to everyone to remind people to turn in their forms in case anyone hasn’t done it. You should be fine not responding IMO.
