Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

My D we flew cross country for a visit in the dorms where she ended up going. She brought my old down sleeping back that packs really tiny. Didn’t put in in the stuff sack, just folded it & shoved it in at the top of her suitcase.

@Ynotgo - Sorry, I did read what to bring section, but missed the sleep bag and pillow line :slight_smile: I

Woo, D17 just got an early write from Smith!

Smith was the first school she visited that really spoke to her, and it’s always been high on her list, so this is pretty great news for her. :smiley:

@thermom Wonderful! Congrats!!!

@thermom wonderful news!!!

@thermom Congrats to her!!

Congrats @thermom! Exciting news!

@thermom Exciting! Great school and Northampton seems like a wonderful college town as well!

Anyone else think of the lines from White Christmas between Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby any time they hear of Smith?
Kaye: They didn’t go to college; they didn’t go to Smith.
Crosby: Go to Smith! She couldn’t even spell it!

Yes, every time we pass Northampton, my family quotes those lines… we live by quotes from musicals.

@thermom Great Congrats

Congrats on D’s acceptance to Smith, @thermom! (And belated congrats to @Mom2aphysicsgeek’s son and his REU and to anyone else I’ve missed – I can’t keep track…and congrats to those that have made their decisions…)

My D17 just had her Robertson skype interview, so fingers are crossed for that one; she’ll be going to USCali for their scholarship finalist interviews next week and to Grinnell after that. Then off to Davidson (she ended up being a Belk finalist after all); now she needs to reschedule her Vandy visit as MOSAIC conflicts with Davidson’s program. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

She’s still got a long wait for a few schools. We are hoping to hear about WashU scholarships at some point. She did get a likely letter/provisional acceptance from U Chicago, so we’re pretty happy (and surprised given their 3 Early programs and their low admit rate) about that. Yet another visit to schedule…

@thermom …wonderful news!!!

@LoveTheBard Congrats on all the wonderful options and possibilities! The scheduling has been difficult for us as well, so I sympathize. Good luck!

@itsgettingreal17 - It feels like trying to hit a moving target. I can’t believe how many moving parts there are to all of this…(and there I go, mixing metaphors again)…

@LoveTheBard Your D’s application is clearly viewed consistently excellent by different schools. Not a lot of randomness in her case. Congratulations on all the great opportunities!

@thermom Terrific news! Congrats to your daughter!! <:-P

Congrats @thermom my D also got the Likely from Smith. It was one of the first she visited as it was on the list of great schools that participate in Tuition Exchange. No word on Merit yet so we’ll see.

@LoveTheBard waiting on WUSTL as well - mainly to see if we have to schedule for the scholarship weekend. They already had her out once and wined and dined her so maybe they’ll just give her a scholarship without anymore interviews :smiley:

congrats to your D - @thermom. A friend’s daughter is a freshman at Smith and really enjoying it!

@LoveTheBard Wow. For your D, those excellent schools are not lottery schools at all!!

congrats too - to DC’s of @itsgettingreal17, @Dolemite, @LoveTheBard – & anyone else who received good news today!!

@LoveTheBard Wow, so much planning for you! how did she feel about the skype interview?

@Dolemite Congrats on Smith as well!
