I thought we won for most expensive AP exams at $111 each, but I see someone beat us a few posts ago. The cost does include the sunshine tax however.
My D got a 3 on AP Lang… so she’s not bothering with Lit, not her forte!
QOTD: My son will sit for 3 AP exams and they are $93. I don’t know if it is required but you don’t hear of many kids not taking them. Our seniors stop going to class after taking AP’s so it is kind of a culmination for them.
@socalmom007 mine got a 3 too, that’s why she’s hoping for a 4 on lit as Willamette will only take a 4, and SLO gives more GE for a 4 than a 3.
But, she has to take Lit on the alternate date a couple of weeks later as it conflicts with one of her IB exams.
I think my daughter has given up, her Lit class doesn’t do anything, she she doesn’t feel well prepared. If she gets any credit for a 3 she’ll be super happy! She’d just like to stick to the math and sciences. Where’s your D leaning on going @VickiSoCal ?
I think it is running 1)St. Andrews 2)SLO 3) Willamette
But who knows.
QOTD: As a homeschooler S doesn’t have to take the AP test, but if he is likely to get credit for them it makes sense. He signed up for 2, Calc BC and English Lang. Our local high school doesn’t offer either class, so I had to call around and find a test site for him, and I paid $102 each for the tests.
$93 here, up from $84 last year. He will take 2, one which counts at all his schools and one which counts at all but 1.
Not required although I used to think they were and only found out too late last year that they were not.
St Andrews as in Scotland @VickiSoCal ??? Holy crap! My D is still having dreams of New York, but if she wants to stay near her boyfriend it will probably be Cal Poly SLO or a UC… waiting to see what UC’s they get in at.
In her first push back ever, I think, D doesn’t want to take some of the exams if she won’t get credit. She has 6 pending and it’s on me to check what the credit policy is. She really doesn’t want to study for Macro or Lit. Tests are the standard $93 here, so I would not cry if she saved us $186. We have till 6-March to decide; I don’t think we will have all results from admissions and scholarships to be able to judge accurately.
My preliminary research shows she might get anywhere from 32 hours to 67 hours. I guess another spreadsheet column.
Congrats @dfbdfb on Smith!
No AP classes for D. I guess she could take Calc BC if it were useful. I just thought her Calc classes from UPENN would transfer.
@socalmom007 yes, she has been accepted to several universities in the UK but St. Andrews tops the list. It’s a long ways away and very different than here for sure, but we visited over Thanksgiving and she loved it.
AP tests are 93 here.
$93 here - not required, but some (not all) of the AP classes give exemption for finals. Not sure which ones D will take - need to figure out which ones aren’t already taken care since she has done dual enrollment & taken AP Lang. Plus, she’ll need to do quite a bit of self study as 2 of her 3 AP classes aren’t great. AP Lit - currently on 5th teacher of the year. The current one is finally teaching the curriculum, but she has only been there a month. Plus, not sure if the real teacher will be back (he left for family leave one month into school). Her AP Stats - the teacher seems to miss at least 2 days a week & the sub just doesn’t teach anything. So D feels behind in that class & math is not her strong suit. AP Human Geo - she loves the class, but she took a World Geography class through dual enrollment, so while she would probably do well on the test, she probably already has the credit for it.
Seniors’ last day is May 31, so not sure what they will actually do between AP exams & end of school.
Know the expression “Don’t burn bridges”? Jr college ds received an email that took him by surprise. The email said, " Despite 2013, we will accept you with open arms."
Way back during his Jr yr of high school, he was accepted to both SSP and PAN. There was only a couple of days between them, so he decided he needed to turn PAN down. Well, ND must have a long memory bc that is how his 3rd REU offer started!!
Now I am thinking…yikes…how does he turn down the ones he doesn’t accept and still apply to grad school???
My son will be done with classes after APs through school classes run through June 9 and exam period through June 19th or so. No final exams for him or in any AP class after the AP exams (thank goodness!). He will have an internship and may take a family trip before graduating in late June.
@SincererLove
How do you get NMSI funding?
We paid for 4 APs and 5 IBs.
Not expecting college credit, might get a little, but not concerned about it, just going for the IBDP and National AP scholar.
We assumed APs were required, but never thought to ask. We’d opt to take them either way.
No APs this year but they are $93 each - the price keeps going up. He took 5 in 10th & 11th - BC Calc, Chem, Physics C (both) and Spanish. Not sure if these will work for him in college or not but he took them when he finished the class.
QOTD: AP tests are $93 each here, plus the $1400 cost of becoming a junior a semester early in UMD College of Engineering. (UMD charges junior and senior engineers $1400 a semester surcharge defined by reaching 60 credits.) Unfortunately, some of his AP credits are unusable because they aren’t applicable to his major but still count towards his total amount of UMD credits earned.
If we had to do it over again, something simple like skipping a few unnecessary AP tests would have saved $1400 which will be charged second semester sophomore year. (OTOH, yesterday’s mail notified us that they just gave him 5K times 4 years = 20K total in-state merit so I really shouldn’t be complaining.)
QOTD: D17 is not required to take the exams, and we are full-pay for them. For us, it’s $100 per exam – and I agree, the cost should be the same nationwide!
She’s still waffling on which of the calc and physics exams she might take, but she’ll definitely be sitting for the exams that are not in her core curriculum.
The oldest daughter of the Mother of Dragons just won the senior superlative “Most Likely To Win The Hunger Games”.
To nobody’s surprise
