Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

@lbf Really enjoyed the WSJ video you suggested above. As we get closer to the big reveal some of my firm resolutions have gotten a bit flimsy, so great reminder!

The only outside scholarship our athletically gifted yet not academically a super-star daughter has applied for is one sponsored by the maker of her ADHD medicine. Trust me when I say, if anyone should be awarded one of their scholarships, it is her. They don’t announce recipients until August, which is a bit frustrating.

College choices getting more difficult for ds. He has now heard from 4 of 6. Three of them, he has received full tuition schollies, the 4th is full pay but a great state uni and not a lot more than the other three (private school room and board). Happy for him to see his very hard work paying off - no idea how he will choose.

The waiting is beginning to wear. More and more people are asking D17 about her choice, she just shrugs. I used to fill in the info when people asked her but I’ve stopped doing that - there is a reason she’s not answering so I’m trying to respect her.

Frankly I wish schools would do rolling denials. If your kid gets put in the “no” pile they should get an email. It would help with expectations. If the school is still undecided by March First then they ride it out but otherwise let the kids (and the mothers  ) know!

DS is selected as a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar! I didn’t even know they were our coming out today.

Congrats to your DS @srk2017 – that is a big deal!! Is he excited?

Congrats, @srk2017 ! That’s wonderful news!

Congrats @srk2017. Ds also received the cv. Nice spring break surprise!

@srk2017 Wow, that’s fantastic! He has a ridiculous number of great options it seems.

Thanks and congrats to your DS as well @crazym0m.

@srk2017 and @crazym0m Huge congrats to your children!!

We are waiting for S17 to receive 3 more decisions. I’m tired of waiting. The level of anxiety is very low since he has options and, most importantly, one is to one of his top choices. The process is just too long.

S17 would like to get a part-time job while in college saying he thinks it will be a good way to meet people. I would like him to hold off freshman year, take in the entire experience and join clubs. If he thinks he wants to be second semester, I won’t object. I’d just like him to get settled in and enjoy the opportunities available to him.

No private scholarships have been applied to. I had subscribed to fastweb last summer and as @STEM2017 said it was total garbage.

Congratulations on all of the recent scholarships!

@srk2017 and @crazym0m BIG KUDOS to your kiddos on Vandy, very impressive!!!

@srk2017 and @crazym0m YAY!

@srk2017 and @crazym0m congrats. What a great accomplishment.

D just jumped on the CV bandwagon as well! Nice to see she’s well accompanied, @srk2017 and @crazym0m.

Congrats to your D too @LoveTheBard and to your S @crazym0m on the Vanderbilt scholarship - Great news!

Wow, congrats to @srk2017, @crazym0m, and @LoveTheBard on the big Vanderbilt scholarship! <:-P

Wow, @lovethebard, your Dd has some amazing options. Congrats!

Congrats to @srk2017 @crazym0m and @LoveTheBard! Y’all (that’s Nashville-speak) should be so proud!!!
