@carachel2 – I will jump in and respond for Dave as it makes me chuckle every time he writes it. No Fiscal Way. Love it!
@CT1417 --haha ok but I kind of like my interpretation better!! Either one fits!!!
@carachel2 – my mind reads your version first before I self-correct to fiscal!
^ same here.
Same three letters.
Same effective meaning…
@Testingearly - you said about WashU:
Can you give more information about this? I haven’t heard anything about admitted student days/activities.
So many great acceptances. Congrats all…So many Wash U acceptances. A great school. Happy, smart kids there. I am also a fan of Northeastern. The coop program really prepares kids for post grad work. Only thing to consider, is the coop program can really mess with kids social life. They can be gone, and when they get back, their friends go on coop. Only objection I have ever heard.
Re everyone at Wash U being so nice: kids on Wash U thread saying even the rejection letter was nicest they’ve ever seen!
And to those high stats/creds kids who may have received such a letter, or have been WL, we have heard the school does suffer from a bit of Tufts syndrome, at least with kids from our area.
Thanks for the feedback on WashU and MIT. I’ve enjoyed learning more about the many different types of schools throughout the nation. I never really paid much attention to it prior to our college search. It’s been eye opening. Actually the entire process has been an awesome learning experience. Not always fun, but I’m glad we’ve gone through it so far. I’ve got another one in the class of 19 so I think we’lll have an easier time understanding the whole process a little better. Thanks for everyone’s advice!!
I’ve heard such great things these last few months about WashU, wish I had known that when we started considering schools. We’re in SC and MA before this so it just wasn’t on our radar. Congrats to all who were accepted!
@Dave_N Adding NFW to my list of college acronyms!
@cloudysmom and @RightCoaster One thing to add is that Wash U is one of the most expensive schools in the country (think NYU and USC sticker price). Wash U does offer a number of half and full tuition merit scholarships that can transform it from a NFW school to a MAC school! The children of @Dolemite and @Cubanmom3 are both finalists for scholarships there, I believe.
I have also heard of Tufts syndrome at Wash U. However, I suspect that results more reflect the vagaries of holistic review within a very high-achieving applicant pool. Among my D’s cohort, I’d be hard pressed to figure out what distinguishes the acceptances, WL, and denials. They are all well-rounded, accomplished students with strong ECs. The outcome didn’t seem to skew according to ability to pay or demonstrated interest (admittedly I’m talking about a small pool of a half dozen kids). However, a glance at the stats of the students on the Wash U admissions results page on this forum bears this out further. Many of the kids in the rejected category were phenomenal. D’s GC warned her that outcomes were very unpredictable.
@thshadow In the student’s portal there should be a tab that has been added for signing up for accepted student visit days. I believe they will pay the applicant’s travel expenses but not the parent’s.
S was also wait listed at Wash U. He had also not advanced for the large merit scholarship he had applied for so was in the same boat as @Dave_N’s DC. NFW indeed.
S was accepted to tOSU STEM Scholars, which is exciting, but he did not make the cut for their National Buckeye Scholarship. At their advice, he applied for special scholarship eligibility…and got nothing. For us tOSU would be a full price proposition.
** tOSU -> NFW **
For everyone waiting to hear from BU, they posted on twitter account a picture of the admissions packets in boxes with a note that says the time must be close. They did something similar on the day ED1 results came out.
Also a number of things were updated on my Ds portal late last night so you may not have to wait until Saturday. ED1 results were released 4 days early.
Hope they release today and the news is good for @Dolmite @RightCoaster @paveyourpath and any others on this thread I may not have remembered as BU applicants.
@mamaedefamilia I believe one key factor for Wash U is demonstrated interest and I have also heard that their admits are unpredictable. Thankfully, my D is also finalist for their Danforth scholarship, so this makes it a definite possibility for her and not NFW (lol
)
Congrats to the Wash U admits! So exciting. My D looked at it this summer and liked it, but in the end felt it was a bit too pre-professional for her, so ended up not applying (it stayed on the list until the end, though). I’m a teacher and have had lots of former students go there and love it!
@STEM2017 Never liked Urban Meyer anyway.
Bummer @STEM2017 about no aid at tOSU.
Son17 didn’t; get any $$ from NEU either. So that is one expensive school. Happy he got in, but I have serious doubts it’s worth full price of admission. We knew it was expensive going in though, so no real surprise.
Good luck to you all waiting on WashU scholarships. That must exciting ( and stressful). Fingers crossed!
Saw that BU might release decisions, another on son17’s list. Thrilling week after a long bout of boredom!!
@youcee Which one do you like…
Major Applewhite,
Justin Fuente,
Todd Graham,
Jim McElwain,
Will Muschamp, or
Hugh Freeze?
Ya gotta like the name Major Applewhite or even Huge Freeze.
Edit: Now I have to go google where all those coaches are at.
