We will have to wait till Saturday. Well. it is not that important, will try to forget about it. But not checking this forum and be reminded is going to be hard :))
No AP scores here till Saturday, July 9th but a good thing bc DS is taking a course starting tomorrow at a local college & does not need the distraction during the week.
@carachel2 – I second what others have said here – if interested I’d encourage your DD to apply – I don’t think Tulane will harshly limit the number of students it takes from a school just based on there being several but definitely wants but demonstrated interest and cares about yield. So I’d I can attest to New Orleans being hot & humid May-Aug are the most intense - it takes awhile (years perhaps?) to get used to it but AC is a great thing - as are afternoon thunderstorms! The winter is very mild - could be 70 in December (or 50 but rarely 30). Personally I think the culture, food, history, music and environment of New Orleans offers a lot for college students but I would suggest a visit if possible to “try it on” - New Orleans is a pretty different city than most in many respects. I went to grad school at Tulane (still connected) & spent many years in the Big Easy so if I can possibly help in any way, I am happy to try.
I don’t think colleges board wants pay to get extra bandwidth, that’s why they give different. We dobt need to go for fake IP since CA is on first day and also DS took only one AP which is Calc BC and doesn’t put much importance to it.
D15 applied to Tulane EA, and through CC I discovered that their decisions start rolling out even before the EA deadline. Apply early!!
Tulane is quite good at figuring out who is using them as a safety school. Try to attend a local information session, email the admissions rep with a valid question or two, and definitely put some thought into the Why Tulane essay. They offer good merit, and they have other scholarship opportunities that require a separate application.
Looking back, it was stressful to try and monitor the CC Tulane acceptance thread and constantly refresh D’s application portal! Not my most productive week at work!! She was accepted into the honors program with $30k merit. Ultimately she choose a school with a stronger and larger engineering program, but the kids we met seemed really happy and enthusiastic about all things Tulane & NOLA. I loved the Mardi gras tree on campus!
I agree with other posts - apply where you are reasonably serious about going, and don’t be influenced by whether or not it might affect someone else’s chances. Also don’t assume that the person with the higher scores will be the one admitted.
Waiting until Saturday for AP scores. S has done reasonably well on the ACT but otherwise doesn’t tend to score very high on standardized tests. Fingers crossed here!
Agree @jmek15. If you treat Tulane as a Safety you just may end up on that wait list. The one which TU took ZERO kids off of this year.
I tried to tell D we could check APs tomorrow, but no interest. I can wait for our regular day if she can.
By splitting things up by IP the CB can limit the traffic that actually hits their website/DB, so it actually does reduce load on specific servers. Those checking on the wrong day won’t hit the main website.
@carachel2 – chiming in to agree with the others about Tulane.
Per our Naviance, 30+ apply each year, half are accepted, and three attend. Almost no rejections outside the midpoint acceptance intersection.
Also agree about demonstrating interest by attending info session in local hotel and attending info session at HS, if one is offered. I believe Tulane is now on the CA, making the app even easier. The Why Tulane essay is very important, as others have mentioned.
Based on the limited sample from our area, it appears that they offer significant merit awards for high SAT/ACT scores. GPA does not seem to matter as much, so if your D thinks she can improve her ACT score, have her take the test again; it could be worth money to you.
Very quick decision turnaround, although this seems to vary by the local AO.
@carachel2 I would apply wherever there was interest and wouldn’t feel unethical about it. So much can change in the student top choices, and admission is beyond your own control. I don’t believe schools have quotas.
Out of curiosity I did look at our Naviance and everyone seems to apply EA to Tulane and everyone except those with the top scores and grades are admitted, which may speak to yield protection. Almost half of those who applied from our school who were admitted chose to attend!
@carachel2 I took a look at our Naviance data for Tulane too and found that the higher test scores/GPAs were denied or deferred while lower scores and grades were accepted. I don’t think I would apply unless you can show them the love. I think it is totally acceptable to apply if D is interested and thinks it would be a good fit. More than one kid was admitted per year at S’s school so they will accept more than one kid if they are both good fits.
AP score checking: We have forbidden our daughter from getting up at 4:00a (Alaska time) to check her scores. We can’t enforce that, of course, but we’re hoping that we impressed upon her the unhealthiness of being quite that hung up on things like that that she won’t sneak in a look.
AP scores are out. I didn’t wake up @ 4:00 to check score, but to work My S took Cal BC only this year (and took AB last year) and scored 5. Even though he is in IB math, his teacher likes his students to take AP exam. Total he took 4 AP exams over last 2 years. Good luck to all who are waiting for the scores.
Collegeboard server can’t keep up this morning…
@jedwards70 and @Atyraulove …thanks for checking your Naviance for me! ::;curses to our district which has no such thing:::
So D with a 34 ACT and no current “interest” would probably not do as well as friend X with a 30ACT who HAS shown them the love? Interesting! and understandable since I doubt they want to be a safety for anyone.
Well, I went on the early score site and got my D17’s AP scores(2 tests). Not thrilled, but she got 3’s. The scores work for credit with UA, but I am a little bit disappointed.
D’s AP results are in. She had me log in since she is in Pennsylvania with family. Euro, Physics 1 & Psych all 5s. Sent her the picture. So happy for her.
AP’s…I am dying here – D is away this week at a business camp/experience and she asked me to get her scores. We are in PA and the scores will not be up until the weekend - I somehow did not pay attention to this and D must not have payed much attention either - she just said that scores would be up for students this morning. We are headed out of town camping (no internet and most likely no/little cell signal) once we pick her up so it looks like it will be a long wait for her scores. It really doesn’t matter much - but I am curious.
I am so computer illiterate - does anyone have any tips to the proxy server work around? We do not have apple iPhones so I can’t use that one…
Good luck to all the APers! IB scores come out later this week I believe so that will be our big day.
I am introducing myself. I am a mom with one child and I have a childcare in my home. I guess i kind of made it my mission to find a college for my son without paying a lot of money for someone to research which school will give him the best opportunities and keeping in mind are the kids happy for the most part. It is his choice as long as it is financially something we can afford without taking on a lot of dept. I guess I am an involved parent.
Well they are food enough for credit if she goes to UC but a mixed bag of 3, 4, 5. I’m ok with that I hope she is. She’s one of those kids who shows better at grades than standardized testing
I think it’s kind of strange how Tulane handles high-stat kids. There are plenty of kids with high stats who would love to go there but are unaware of the importance of showing interest (or not sure how to do it if they can’t visit). On the flip side there are a lot of kids who know they need to show interest, so they fake it (aka fake-kid). So, what is the result? Lower admit-stats for TU and still many (?) kids successfully using it as a safety.
A couple assumptions there, but that’s my take.
Got D’s AP scores. All were as expected except one, which was shocking. They even went over test in class and D got most of free response correct so something seems to have gone wrong. Getting a rescore and ordering free response booklet.
