6 essays is insane.
Cal Tech has 6 essays as well…and it’s not like that really is what floats the boat with a 25-75% ACT of 34-35. =))
Now I need to look at the WF apps.
Virginia Tech is high on son’s list but they have three optional (LOL) essays. They each have max word limit of 250 but this may be the obstacle that prevents him from actually applying. Bummer.
Your counselor is right, I am seeing WF fading into the sunset as I read the advice.
MIT has its own application which includes quite a few essays - I can’t remember the exact number though
My cousin totally procrastinated on applying to VT @STEM2017 The app was due in January and we saw him shortly after Christmas and it wasn’t done. He didn’t get in and is going to Clemson. I’ve heard good things about VT my whole life- my dad is a (very enthusiastic) alum. He still watches all the football games he can. And I’m pretty sure there is a stuffed Hokie Bird somewhere in my house.
We drove to the pier tonight for the sunset. Absolutely gorgeous.
I think we witnessed the Pocapolypse. 95% of the people on the pier were not there for the view.
People, I have 11 windows opened on my ipad. I think it’s time for me to back slowly away from the college research and find a book.
@WhereIsMyKindle Just 11? Slacker!
@STEM2017 VT and merit? I think I liked it at first sight, but OOS merit was an issue. is it worth another look? Anyone?
wow, 11 windows. That’s a lot.
I only have one window open.
Now, it does have 73 tabs, though…
The CA shut-down is exactly during our vacation, so that works out well for us. D hasn’t even started it, but she will be as soon as we get back! She’s also supposed to have a first draft of her essay to me by Friday. Anyone else on pins and needles about June SAT scores supposedly coming out on Thursday? D thinks she rocked the math section, but not sure about reading. We’ll see!
@jedwards70, that screenwriting class sounds great. If he’s not familiar with it, he might want to check out Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio’s (screenwriters of Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean) site, Wordplay: http://www.wordplayer.com/
I don’t know if the forums are still active, but the columns are all packed with great advice for up and coming screenwriters. Another good site is Scriptshadow: http://scriptshadow.net/. It’s a site where people read and critique screenplays. Some are obscure, but quite a few do get made into movies. It’s interesting to see a movie when you’ve already read the screenplay.
@STEM2017, I saw the multiple essays for VA Tech as well. None of D’s other schools have more than one. I haven’t told her about VT yet, but luckily less than half her schools require essays. I’m glad VT is not EA, so she’ll have about half her schools done before getting to that one. Hmm, I should see which schools are EA and which require essays and do some kind of over-analysis of the situation.
Oregon State has 6 short answer 100 word essays…you might want to factor that into your over analysis lol.
I think if I were to go back to school I would head to Rollins College and major in water skiing.
@2muchquan: One of the things my daughter intends to find out Thursday is how good of a neuroscience curriculum she can get out of the psychology major. (Of course, mine is interested in systems neuroscience—if yours is interested in cellular neuroscience you’d be looking at biochemistry, I suppose.)
@dfbdfb I’ll be interested in your takeaway from the info they give you. Hope she likes UA!
@snoozn, I think the SAT scores come out Wednesday July 20. I’m impatiently waiting.
^ I think the kids see them on July 21st it’s the colleges that get them the 20th.
Got a fee waiver for Clemson, unfortunately zero interest in Clemson.
I’d love to hear what fee waivers everyone else is getting.
