Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

My S17 just submitted his one and only application. This has been such a different experience than that of S15.

Now I just need to try to relax and wait until ED results are released in December. In the meantime, I also should try to avoid the athletic recruit sub-forum, as that place, while having great info, can also induce unwanted anxiety.

@shuttlebus good luck!!!

@shuttlebus Great work and good luck!

Although I don’t have a horse in the race, I went to the NMSC thread and saw that Texas cutoff is at most 221. So anyone at or above 221 in TX is an NMSF.
I remember a few from TX here. Congratulations!
(The cutoff could be lower, of course, 220 or 219, but we won’t know until someone comes up and says they made it.)

@shuttlebus Good luck! It must be such a weight off your son’s shoulders!
You aren’t kidding about the athletic recruit threads being anxiety provoking. I keep thinking that the rug could get pulled out from under DD. I’m encouraging her to wait until closer to the deadline, just in case. DH thinks I’m being paranoid. DD still has significant polishing to do with the essays anyhow…

@PerpetualWorrier I love your screen name. My son is so glad to be done with the recruiting process. Good luck to your DD!

We visited Ole Miss today. Both D and I liked it and D could definitely see herself there. Pretty campus, great college town, and got great information about the accounting program. They have a Stamps scholarship (not sure how I missed that before). If anyone wants more details/specific questions, please let me know.

To the parents of Class of 2017-
Raise a glass; we’ve come a long way! Today my oldest, class of 2017, submitted her EA application via Common App to The Ohio State University! We are so proud her! Now we wait. Has anyone else submitted applications to date?

One so far for us. Waiting on NMSF. If it becomes clear that D didn’t make it, all currently complete applications will get submitted next week. If she does, we’ll wait for press release or confirmation from her school before submitting.

The list? D’s stands at 16 and we’re definitely not looking to add at this point. (Although if something good comes along by chance, we will. I think it was a post by @STEM2017 that caused us to put Rose-Hulman back on the list!) I think about six schools are EA and she’ll definitely apply to all of those. Once EA decisions come in, the RD list might lose a few schools. I’m sad that my dream school for her (#2 on her list) is RD (as is her #1). I don’t want to wait that long!

@DOTexe, you should definitely check out the [url = <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/%5Dbusiness”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/]business major forum here on CC. My S18 wants to double major in business and cs. I posted there looking for advice and have gotten lots of great suggestions for schools to look into. (Although the posters here have already given you a good deal of “homework!”)

@rscgrad Congrats and cheers to you and to all of us.

Completed applications include…

Alabama
Ole Miss
U South Carolina
Clemson
Rose-Hulman
Florida State
University of Houston

All the easy ones (no essay or short essay) are done.

The more difficult apps with multiple essays and other supplemental material will have to wait until after school has begun.

Congratulations @shuttlebus and @rscgrad on the submission of the first app. No applications submitted here. There are two submission dates on the calendar (EA and RD), some essays complete, common app (profile through activities) is complete.
@STEM2017, congrats on the completed apps.

I want to add my sincere congratulations @shuttlebus, @rscgrad, @STEM2017 and others who have submitted their first apps or who (like @itsgettingreal17) are close and just waiting for things outside their control (NMSF, LoRs etc.)!

Must feel so good. We still have to finalize CA essay & resume and go on some visits too - before school starts. At least DS is recovering from the wisdom teeth extraction pretty well! I can’t tell you how much of a relief that is.

Tomorrow, H and I will be helping out at different friends’ kids’ move in days. An early practice for next year!!!

We moved our older dd into her off-campus apartment for senior year!

Congratulations on the completed and submitted applications—so awesome

Congratulations to @shuttlebus, @rscgrad, @STEM2017 for the Application submissions! and to @itsgettingreal17 for being close!
As a CASPer, I’m going to go cry in a corner. :((
Or look for chocolate and wine =((

My DS also submitted one app (3 weeks back) and working on the essays. Most of his schools need multiple essays.

No apps here yet, the one non essay app has been cut from the list so work needs to be done on essays and activities lists.

Congrats to those that have apps in!

To those of you whose children have submitted applications:
You have inspired (woke) me. I-) :!!
After DD got home from her summer program, we have been discussing about her college list. It’s a bloated one. So we are having mini debate sessions about which ones she should consider eliminating.
I asked her to also work on her essays - at a minimum submit the Flagship State Safety - while we continue to debate about the list.

Still waiting on a transcript here, so no apps are done yet. We’ve been told late September.
