Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

Parking was easy right off of Figueroa, but not free. I think it was around $10, but I don’t remember for sure. D17 and her friend did laugh as we were walking through the parking garage because she said it reminded her of her high school’s parking lot. BMW, Tesla, BMW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Acura, BMW, etc.

We’ve attended events at the USC aquatics center and there is a large parking structure next to it. Yeso it is quite pricey.

@TimEnchanter @VickiSoCal Thanks for the info. $10 isn’t out of line with other schools we’ve visited.

Parking at USC is $12, IIRC.

WUSTL just sent us a parking pass for our upcoming visit. Nice touch. USC could certainly afford to do likewise when you set up an interview (which we had).

Here is NMSF list from CA

Has anyone seen Texas semi finalist list yet?

“USC does not have EA/ED”
I’ve been wondering if they will make the switch to at least EA if not ED soon…they seem to be one of the few elite privates without it (though they seem to be doing just fine with only RD.)

Our school just announced SF- 12. Wow. I went there and my year there was one- me. Is it easier to get now?

@Dave_N - How large is D’s graduating class? That’s a lot of NMSFs - well done!

@LoveTheBard, it is a large class, 955

@VickiSoCal My HS was just the opposite, 8 when I was there and zero now. Actually zero for the whole town, not just the 1 HS.

@STEM2017

It is my understanding the you should apply to FSU by their Oct. 15 deadline for the best chance of admissions, if FSU is still on the list. The App is quick and easy, essay is optional, but suggested. SSAR is a different story.

The UNC-CH EA date is also 10/15 but it says you just have to submit the CA and pay the fee by then, Transcripts and supporting docs can arrive later but suggested within 2-3 weeks.

Thank you @CaucAsianDad

FSU application is in, but I didn’t realize the date was so early. Lucky I guess. We’re still having issues with the remote location of the engineering school. It’s likely a deal breaker, if he’s fortunate enough to get accepted.

So my son shows his paperwork for the national honor society and the lady said he could not type it and that he had to redo it, but clearly it said it could be word processed. He said you can’t complain to the person who decides if you get in. What do you think? It is spelled out clearly on the sheets. He has got so much work to do

Why in the world would someone want something handwritten over something typed??

Our kids apply to nhs by email. Sheesh.

@fun1234 While frustrating and time consuming, I tend to agree with your son. The gatekeeper makes the rules, he needs the gatekeeper, and complaining about the rules won’t help his cause.

That’s why we’re all here. Complain to us all you want. We’ll listen,

I guess he went back to talk with the NHS, but would not point out how it says it can be word processed, but at least she excepted the signatures from his volunteer work on different sheets because the place where he volunteers is closed

@Mom2aphysicsgeek My friend has a D in 9th grade who has been studying Russian since middle school. Could you provide me with the information on the international language competitions your daughter has competed in so I can pass the info on to my friend. Thanks!
