@dfbdfb- yeah… I know that’s why I’m not sure what to think.
@MichiganGeorgia …I would toss that out on the Alabama forum. It would be interesting to see what responses you get. I cannot imagine why any kid would type that in…my D would be horrified by anyone who did that and would click right on by that one for a roommate.
So, it’s a box where you just as well could have put “allergic to peanuts” or “night owl”?
If so, I’d worry about it too. I’ve read that people who answer “American” when you ask for race in a poll tend to have certain views about race. I might worry that this might also be a marker for that sort of person.

I think, damn, don’t let my kid hear about that.
I’m frankly appalled that UA allows this, but maybe it’s better to let all the racists clump together.
I would say anyone who puts their race on their housing app would be an automatic no way for us.
@MotherOfDragons …same here. D would be horrified. We will be looking at the housing app closer in the next few days.
@VickiSoCal Our son got a package like that from some Ivy school a week or so ago and I was jokingly thinking it mean he got in if it’s that thick. It went in the safety stack.
@MichiganGeorgia There are absolutely ZERO reasons to pick roommates now. It will not make a difference when registration opens later. Closer to spring, there is a private Facebook spreadsheet where kidsmpost what traits are important to them. My ds picked out his suite mates in march or April just a couple of weeks before registration. Students can pull in late registrants. So, if someone who doesn’t pay their deposit until after Jan is a good match, the early registrant registers and all the kids he wants in his suite are able to register in that suite.
Question…What is the best dorm at Alabama? We haven’t had the chance to visit there yet.
@Tgirlfriend The honors dorms.
I’m sure the best dorm in Alabama is probably the football dorm and it cost 50m to build and has hot tubs, indoor water park, brick oven pizza, etc Or do they just do those for elite basketball programs like UK and Kansas?
I know @STEM2017 made a nice FAFSA thread but I’m lazy and the original question I had got answered in the first couple of posts about adding more than 10 schools. So now that the FAFSA has been processed can I remove 5 schools and add the other 5 I need and resubmit or shoudl I remove all 10 and resubmit just with the new 5? My D has 15 schools total that need it. TIA
@itsgettingreal17 …I was thinking the same thing however there are several honors dorms and then there is an Engineering dorm.
@Dolemite The whole deleting colleges to add colleges thing makes me very nervous. Don’t like it one bit.
@Tgirlfriend There are only minor differences between the honors dorms. Its a complex built at once and the dorms are practically the same. You’d need to visit or ask re: the differences. I don’t remember what they are.
hmmm I wonder if D has to complete the honors college application and get admitted before she can apply to the honors dorms?
Registration just opened up for my school for spring and I want to tear my hair out. They scheduled portfolio production, a mandatory 2 credit class, at the same time as senior-level classes. Which, duh, all the seniors are in and who also have to do the portfolio production! Gah! What the heck! I have to go make an appointment to torture my adviser on wed.
Once I asked the dean “can we get creative with my credits” and she said “no, this is the art department.” Totally missed the irony.
Agree. The honors dorms are similar.
This child just said “Wait, what schools am I applying to?” while typing an email to a teacher.
Oh good gravy
:((
@WhereIsMyKindle Ha! That’s my D too. She knows a lot about the top of the list, but little about the bottom.
@STEM2017 and @Dolemite – I know just about nothing about FAFSA other than what I have read on CC over the years…but I thought there was some way to start another ‘page’, if you will.
FAFSA used to report the names of the other nine schools on the list of ten. Some people agonized over whether they should enter the schools in alpha order or some random counterintuitive order to throw colleges off the scent of guessing which school was #1 and which was just a safety. I recall at the time the suggestion to create a new FAFSA ‘page’ for each college as opposed to listing ten at once.
AFAIK, FAFSA no longer reports the names to the other nine colleges.
OK–that was just one step above useless as I have never seen FAFSA and don’t even know how one would try that.
@WhereIsMyKindle – who needs a JOTD when we have our entertaining applicants in house?
