That is so awesome, @Mom2aphysicsgeek !! <:-P <:-P Congrats to her!!!
@stlarenas – so sorry to hear about the lack of help and support - if I can be at all helpful I am happy to read the essay. I have done it for some friends i bet others here too would be happy to try to help.
On the shorter supps - some advice my son got was to pick a vignette, an actual experience that tells a larger story or reveals a trait. Maybe start with what she enjoyed or learned from the experience as a concept, choose a particular experience that shows it and tell the story. It is great to be open to trying different things!!
Congratulations @Mom2aphysicsgeek and your D! How amazing!!
Anybody school doing PSAT tomorrow? D is going to sleep in and report to school at 1045 am!
My Ds18 is doing PSAT tomorrow - little prep and he feels not very relevant bc focusing on the ACT.
Our entire school is testing. They backed off in forcing all the seniors to take the SAT, so some were allowed to come to school but sit out. D thought it a better use of her time to stay home and knock out a few more essays and prep for her calc 3 midterm and I agreed.
@CA1543 , best of luck to your DS18!
My DS20 is also taking it, but we really don’t care at this point.
Congrats @Mom2aphysicsgeek !!! What an amazing family you have. Well done!
PSAT tomorrow for S19
ACT Saturday for S17
SHSAT (NYC Specialized High School test) Saturday for S19
Seems like I’m the only one stressed about them.
@STEM2017 — again, need a laugh icon! Not enough to simply hit like.
“Seems like I’m the only one stressed about them.”
@Mom2aphysicsgeek, How exciting for your D, and for you too. Good luck to her and her team. I hope she gets the year abroad funding!
S’s school held their PSAT testing last Saturday. It was a rainy day, so a good day to spend the morning testing.
I would knock on several doors to try and get that waived (admissions, financial aid, housing, the president if necessary) and specifically mention that she won’t be able to attend without the waiver.
Seniors don’t take the PSAT. My son taking it is a sophomore.
My sophomore is taking the PSAT tomorrow!
QOTD: D17 puts our home number. She doesn’t answer her cell phone.
Tomorrow:
9th: anti-bullying and healthy relationship presentations
10th: ACT-Plan
11th: PSAT
12th: Film senior class video in the morning, which from past years involves running the camera (or flying it by drone) through the hallways with seniors dressed in all kinds of costumes. I have no idea how this is not disruptive to test takers. In any case, DS17 for some reason has a shirt to wear tomorrow with a “U” taped on it because he is the U in Quesadilla. And, I have no idea why Quesadilla, though it might be something about “taco trucks on every corner” which is kind of a meme with the kids.
Have you seen this website: http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/
She does qualify for free tuition at Alabama State. Prepping and retesting with a program like Prepscholar or Magoosh might open up some merit options. A 27 gets free tuition and room at U Arkansas-Monticello and the deadline is not until March.
Seniors report @ 11 AM tomorrow.
Regarding schools giving PSAT tomorrow to sophomores and juniors with seniors coming in later – are these private schools? In our public schools this year (unlike last bc only 1 PSAT last time), there is no change to the schedule - guess Saturday testing is all students will do. Everyone has normal classes.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek - Congrats to your D - well done!! Fingers crossed that she’ll be a top scorer; I’m sure that knowing that her junior year study abroad were to be funded would take some more pressure off financially as well as fit-wise, given her concerns about finding the right programs at a price point that works for your family.
@CA1543 - yes D17’s private school does the Wed. PSAT. Non-juniors have other programming on and off-campus to minimize distractions for the test-takers.
@CA1543 - Our CA public school requires seniors to come @ 11 AM.
We are public school. Change of plan for D. Sleep in, brunch with friends and then school.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Congratulations to your D! So exciting!
