Good Luck to all the ACT takers. May the answers be always in their favor.
@carachel2 We are a soccer family. Everyone plays. S17 is the best of them. But I watch the other two with just as much emotion.
And yes, S17s finals games will be bittersweet. Hopefully lots of playoff games remain.
@mamaedefamilia … Oh yeah, lots of that going on here.
The amount of wishful and magical thinking going on among some of her classmates has me doing the smile and nod thing a lot!
Good luck to ACT testers! @STEM2017
I don’t know if IoT Ddos was related to it, but I had trouble connecting to CC yesterday and this morning.
I had my first CC withdrawal syndrome. :-w :-w :))
I wished I was on FB CC2017 and I read reddit. =))
I will not join FB CC2017 until 5/1, I will not join FB until 5/1, …, my will power is not that strong though. :))
CC is very quirky lately.
@payn4ward you could join the FB go up but not post. Limit yourself to liking posts only. The pictures are really fun to see.
Good luck to ACT testers including my DS17 ( last time!!!)
@payn4ward I had trouble connecting to CC yesterday as well.
CC keeps logging me out on my iPhone.
Log outs most likely due to yesterday’s distributed denial of service attack. The map in the graphic shows where outages were concentrated.
Good luck to all of the ACT takers today. (I can not fathom my kid taking the ACT or SAT test for the first time now!!)
Congrats to your son @STEM2017. What a way to end the season.
@payn4ward - you can join now, you can you join FB CC2017 now :)) From 05/01 we will charge premium, just kidding =))
@payn4ward - too funny! I had the same problem trying to log on to CC yesterday & was also feeling the withdrawal; “Oh no, I’ll miss JOTD and QOTD!” I tried and tried to get connected, and wound-up working on a spreadsheet ranking the different colleges instead. I even wondered if I somehow managed to get myself banned from CC for some reason! When I finally got on later in the day, I was so happy!
Yikes, been away for a few days so there’s a flood of posts! Congrats to @Mom2aphysicsgeek 's D and @mtrosemom 's S and any other accomplishments I’ve missed. Also good luck to any taking the ACT today!
We have a pretty busy couple of days coming up. D17 needs to finish her basic CA tomorrow so she can go over it with GC on Monday before hitting ‘submit’ on her first app to EA state school. Our GC’s like to review the CA with kids before they submit their first applications to make sure the basic info is correct/complete. I just want to make sure she gets this puppy done a solid week before the 11/1 deadline. [-O<
Her first interview is coming up on Monday evening, with RIT at one of their traveling hotel roadshows. I figured it would be good for D to get one under her belt for one of her likely schools, especially since we probably won’t get a chance to visit, so it will double as showing interest. D is generally an introvert (going back to that QOTD) but she’s also a performer, so she can turn it on when she has to.
For the ACT (fall, junior year, one and done), we didn’t do any free reports, and waited until we got the scores. I only just now paid to have them sent to all of D17’s schools. Likewise for the SAT subject tests (June, sophomore and Nov. junior years), we did not take advantage of any of the freebies, and waited to see which, if any, scores we wanted to send.
For the Oct. SAT that D took for a confirming score for NMF, we sent free reports to the Natl. Merit folks, and to the one school that insists on all ACT and SAT testing. Unless a school requires both ACT and SAT and/or all Subject tests, I’d rather that my D be the one to decide which to send.
Congrats to @STEM2017’s S, that’s really exciting! And here’s hoping the ACT takers nailed it!
Senior band night was lots of fun. D lost her voice, and was given the ‘most spirited marcher’ award yesterday, something I guess they do for every game. She had an awesome time, and is glad it’s over! One more indoor concert later in the year, and that will be it for the sousaphone…maybe forever! I get that corner of my living room back!
@thermom, what’s your definition of a ‘solid’ week? =)) I’m totally freaking out with 2-3 to go by 11/1! A ‘solid’ week to me is a month, and we are past that deadline!
Today’s JOTD taken from the Urban Dictionary while searching for definitions of the term “ACT” (hope all did well):
ACT - An SAT-style test that’s so baller easy that someone like me who says “baller” can manage to get a 31.
*Bob: I studied for the SAT since October and I got a 1670.
Danny: I got a 31 on the ACT and I studied while driving on the freeway to school that morning.
*
ACT - A test that doesn’t help anything at all. We’re told to not stress over it, but we can’t help but feel like you’re getting ready for The Hunger Games. Oh and it’s the one thing determining whether we get a higher education or not
When will I ever use anything in real life, that I learned on the ACT?
Reaching out to the group with a question about the academic/activity resume.
D’17 has placed her GPA in the “info” area. Do ACT/SAT scores belong there? She has a strong ACT score and I guess we’ll know the SAT next week.
Opinions?
@Dave_N – is this a resume to be uploaded to a specific college or to take with her on interviews?
If the latter, my son included all of his academic stats: GPA, SAT, and I think subject test scores. I believe he had a section for honors, but some awards/achievements were referenced while describing the activity.
If the former, then I have no idea! He has to edit his current resume down to an activity section this weekend for UMD-CP’s app, but that is still a WIP.
@Dave_N – I asked our GC and she said the transcript will have the GPA and not to put it on common app or resume so we did not - wonder what others are doing? ACT/SAT can be reported in testing section - no need to put in “Additional Info” section - that’s for info that really can’t be elsewhere or to explain some extraordinary situation etc. I think it could be helpful to click on each section of the Common App, look for the addtional tips - often on right sidebar and there are also some video tutorials - links at top of the sections. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.
