My daughter was looking at Michigan but we removed it from her list because their oos was far more than many other similar schools.
@Dolemite I wonder the same thing: What the heck does ‘In Progress’ mean? I wonder if that just means that the teacher has opened up and read the request? Or, do they have to actually click a button like a chess match when they start?
@DMV301 UIUC ranked very high on CS. Also I know Rutgers has a fairly strong CS program (ranked a lot higher than many of its other majors). Rutgers OOS fees are very reasonable compare to Michigan though
@Dolemite For us meant “in progress” meant GC needed to do something.
@itsgettingreal17 is correct:
Delivery Confirmations
This academic year, we will display consistent document submission and delivery status messages for all college destinations. The status notifications beginning in2016-17 are:
Requested: Student has requested a letter of recommendation
In Progress: Teacher has written the letter of recommendation
Submitted: High school faculty member has sent letter of recommendation to designated college(s)
Cancelled: Either the student, teacher or counselor has cancelled the request

They had the regional one act play competition this weekend. The schools one act play won first place and DS17 won Best Actor! He was very surprised and happy. They now go on to compete at the State competition in November.
@MichiganGeorgia Congrats to your S!!!
@Hades321 Actually I haven’t bought those lists I just bookmarked it for future reference ;
A number of folks here have spent the $8 and think it is worth it - meaning they poured over the hundreds of hundreds of colleges in the spreadsheet and identified a couple schools which they are adding to the List that were not in their radar before.
@MichiganGeorgia Yoohoo! <:-P
Thanks all. Good to know. I’m sure the GC will hit it up fairly soon with 11/1 approaching.
Nope, just time to change it back (next weekend is the Florida-Georgia game, time to put college apps aside and deal with the important stuff!).
On the application front, DS17 has three submitted (safety, match, financial reach), so now he needs to select which lottery RD’s he may pursue (he refused to do EA for any of the lottery schools). That and work on a few scholarships.
@CA1543 When we visited WPI they said the two EA dates were because of differing availability dates for first quarter or semester grades. They said they really want to see grades for senior year, so unless you school will have those available by the 11/1 EA1 date you should apply EA2. So I don’t think there is any disadvantage to waiting until EA2 to apply.
So I’m a dummy, someone in this thread told me how to submit ACT and SAT scores to multiple CSU’s and UC’s and I didn’t save the link and now I can’t find it. :-S I think it might have been @Ynotgo ? But I could be wrong! Anybody??? TIA!
Congratulations @MichiganGeorgia! What an honor for the school and for your S!
@dfbdfb, I definitely don’t share your worry of a 100% acceptance rate!! We are sure to get our share of rejections. But I agree with you completely that learning how to move past a disappointing outcome is an important life skill.
UMD CP - The short answer responses can be multiple sentences, right? Just reviewing son’s UMD CP short answer questions and not sure if they are “deep” enough. S was thinking he could ONLY complete that sentence but I think he can add additional sentences. There seems to be quite a few characters available so I don’t want him to waste the opportunity to expand/clarify a thought. Anyone have any insights?
I really like UMD’s feature of being able to upload an Activities Resume. Felt like S was able to capture so much more about what the individual activities mean to him in this format as compared to the limited space in the Common App. Also, based on advice in previous posts on this thread he took out all of the academic “stuff” and just focused on outside activities so belated thanks to those who chimed in on that!
Purdue - For anyone who’s already applied to Purdue, last Friday they released the first round of decisions and will release subsequent rounds every Friday at 5 PM.
I’ve discovered that reading last year’s admissions stats threads from S’s top choice schools escalates my stress level exponentially. Must. not. do.
Thanks @payn4ward. I think I have the info for the universities that DD is applying to. But I will get the 8 dollar list to make sure that we don’t miss anything. Thanks for the info

@jmek15 …yes! D was accepted to Purdue engineering on Friday. She liked it when we visited-- at the time I thought it looked like some merit aid would be doable but I’m not so sure anymore. It’s nice to be accepted directly into engineering at least. She is accepted into our two state flagships but is in a holding pattern since both are pending engineering review. Sigh.
@jmek15 –
Re: UMD-CP activities’ resume. When you say he removed all the academic stuff, did you mean academic awards also? As in, would you remove NMSF? Son included that along with awards that are kind of academic: AMC, USACO, NACLO, Math team awards, science fair award…that sort of thing.
I am probably overthinking this. He removed all of his academic stats (GPA and SAT & Subject Test scores), but included the others listed above.
Love this: "I’ve discovered that reading last year’s admissions stats threads from S’s top choice schools escalates my stress level exponentially. Must. not. do.
So true, and oddly I have not been reading any of them. Perhaps once he has his apps in, but for now, not reading those. I read them in prior years, trying to divine meaning, but realize that it is really all out of his hands.
@carachel2 Congrats on Purdue! Wow, so impressive. You must be very proud of her and how her apps are working out! Very happy for you.
@jmek15 UMD-CP short answers: My son did not go deep. He just answered from the heart. For instance - “What was your favorite thing about last Monday?” He wrote about leftovers from our traditional (and delicious) Sunday dinner and how he will miss those dinners and miss his family while away at school. They are an important part of who he is.
If they don’t like the answer, they won’t like him. So be it.
I’ve been reading along but haven’t had a chance to comment. Congrats to those with special accomplishments and completed applications! I’m not listing you all because I don’t want to accidentally leave someone out, but you know who you are.
S’s biggest accomplishment recently was scoring a goal in his soccer game yesterday. This is a big deal because he has played defender for about 6 years now and never gets closer to his team’s goal than the half line, and he rarely gets even that close. Good ending for fall soccer for him. Just a tournament this weekend and that will be end of another part of his HS life. :-S
Question for those of you who have paid a housing deposit at Bama: Does it make sense to do that before acceptance into the honors college? I wasn’t sure if the deposit just saves a spot in line or if you need to actually select housing. S plans to apply to honors but hasn’t yet – I promised him that if got all his initial apps in, he could put honors and scholarship apps on hold until after the SAT on 11/5. :^o He’s holding me to that promise.
