@Fishnlines29 I would like a spreadsheet please. How can I get one? Thanks
@BingeWatcher make sure you tell your nephew about the Texas Tech NM scholarship to the best of my knowledge it’s the only true full ride NM scholarship out there (full tuition and fees, room and board, books, travel expenses, stipend for incidentals) https://www.depts.ttu.edu/scholarships/NationalMerit.php
Not Northeast or Texas, I’m not sure if anyone here’s been following the “bright futures” thread under the University of Florida sub forum but it looks like FL may be giving full tuition and books to OOS NMF students at all Florida schools (FSU, UF…) starting with the high school class of 2018. This would be paid for by the state not the school which I thought was interesting.
@3scoutsmom - I’ve been following that thread. It looks like the OOS Benacquisto has been withdrawn from consideration. I hope I’m wrong.
CS/CS/SB 2 - Higher Education
- General Bill by Appropriations, Education, Galvano
- Last Event: Friday, May 05, 2017 - Indefinitely postponed and withdrawn from consideration
Consensus on that thread is that it may still be active. We should find out more tomorrow.
@fishlines29 said to pm her but how does one do that @ncnrs2be for the spreadsheet ?! Lol
Y’know how earlier S had said that Tech and UNM were tied, and even though he was leaning a hairsbreadth toward Tech, it could change if the wind blew? Well, the wind blew. He’s now tipped toward UNM based on feasibility of gap year and being closer to home.
I don’t expect that this is the final decision. We still haven’t seen Michigan State. Tech might come through with the gap year. He’ll be applying to both as soon as junior year grades are in and portals open over the summer.
He’ll probably flip-flop all summer (and most of next year!), but it’s low-stress because both schools are great choices.
So, D says AP Bio exam was pretty rough. Three down, two to go…
D18 didn’t take AP Bio. But AP Calc BC tomorrow. D18 feeling VERY confident. Hopefully, she’s not like the Warriors up 3-1 on Cleveland last year.
@ShrimpBurrito, D also took Bio and said exam was, “OK, pressed for time.” That’s all I got.
She’s got Stats later this week. Good luck to all of the kids taking APs this week!
@suzy100 , thanks, good luck to your D, too. My D has AP Lang, AP World, and her pre-Calc final yet this week. Friday will be a good day.
@ShrimpBurrito we are officially headed to Montreal mid June and scheduled the McGill campus tour. Know you were there recently and open to hotel recommendations. Thx!
@my2caligirls
I absolutely love Auberge du Carre St-Louis on Rue St Denis, where the Latin Quarter meets the Plateau. I’ve stayed there twice recently. Quirky and charming. Indian restaurant downstairs so the hotel towels smell like curry. Kitchenettes, next to the impossibly cute Square St Louis. It’s a mile walk to McGill campus (take rue Prince Arthur rather than Sherbrooke), or a quick metro ride.
I’ve also stayed at Le St Martin, downtown, very close to campus. It’s more elegant and sophisticated, and there are several hotels like it clustered together, close to Eaton Center (big underground mall).
This is making me ache for Montreal. And in June! Lucky you. :x
DD’18 thought AP USH was fair: AP ENG Comp. and AP CALC AB next.
@ShrimpBurrito great suggestions - thanks!! Agree that given the choice June is perfect for a trip to Montreal will have a look at McGill and then it’s all fun for the weekend. I don’t know if D18 would go there but I know I would- culture meets great school - what’s not to like. I will likely ask you the same re UBC but that may come next year.
D18 feels good about AP USH, okay with AP Bio, very nervous for Calc tomorrow. Then a good night’s sleep before Wednesday’s AP Lang.
Check to see what festivals may be going on in Montreal while you’re there. ‘Tis the season. When I was there on a girls’ trip last year, we did a fantastic food tour in the Mile End neighborhood. I can give you the link if you’re into that kind of thing.
That’s interesting you say you’d go to McGill but maybe not your D…my D fully appreciates the city and school and all it has to offer, but it’s foreign enough that she feels it may be too much of an adjustment and be overwhelming.
Re: UBC, there’s a perfectly nice hotel right on campus: West Coast Suites. I doubt anything else would be walkable.
S says he thinks he did “pretty well” on AP Bio. This leaves AP Lang and AP Micro left to go. He’s got ice cream waiting in the fridge as a treat when he gets home.
@ShrimpBurrito I’m sure she will like McGill - just have some reservations about grade deflation as it could be a grad school killer. For now she is considering OT for grad school - nothing like med school but still pretty competitive. Anyways, we’ll see what options are available but sure she will at least apply.
OT is a wonderful field. Good choice.
