Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Re: handwriting - Ha! S’s handwriting is horrible. He has this nice, round-ish “font” that he uses for essays, though, so hopefully it’s legible enough.

I throw no stones at bad handwriting. Thirty years of news reporting shorthand has made my handwriting horrible. When I sign checks, it’s basically a squiggly line. :))

If 5’s were handed out for penmanship, D18 would get a 6. :))

I also love how script has become so outdated that kids cannot even read it anymore. S18 demands I send him letters while he is at camp in print! No script allowed!

My surgeon hubby’s handwriting is stereotypically illegible. My S20 (who also wants to be a surgeon)'s penmanship is just as bad. We joke that that is his ticket to get through med school. He has what it takes!

@ShrimpBurrito We say the same thing about S - that "of course* he’s going to be a Dr., because what else could he do with handwriting like that? :))

Its been eerily quiet on the AP Lang exam today. No one has even checked-in from the Eastern time zone.

All quiet on the Western front. I pinged S, though, so we’ll see if he reports in.

D texted, saying there were no surprises, and she’s predicting a 4.

S says, and I quote, “Pretty good. Will talk later.”

D said her hand was very tired from all of the writing on the AP Lang exam…then I realized most of them now rely on computers for all of their essays and don’t have to write out 12 pages of text in a 2-3 hour period. Hopefully she’ll have energy left for tomorrow’s AP World exam! She said she thought the first passage was the hardest, and stalled out on it a bit and ran out of time on the last passage or two…doesn’t sound like a good sign to me. But, she practiced diligently on the 5 Steps to 5 book so hopefully she’ll at least get a 3 on the exam.

Haven’t talked to S’18 all day - so no idea how Lang went. Thankfully, that was the last AP test he had.

Leaving tomorrow early for S’13s college graduation. I know I said this before, but the time really does fly by. Enjoy them while they are still home.

D18 reported back that essays were “OK.” And MC was “so hard.”

Think “BIG CURVE”!

S reported Lang went “well-ish”. MC was good, 1 essay was “eh”, one was “hard” and one was “really good”. He had girlfriend drama heading into the test this morning so hopefully that didn’t skew anything. Hoping for a 4 and his mock was a 4 but with the drama a 3 would at least give him 1 semester of credit.

Got the full report now that D is home. She said most of her classmates felt pretty good about the test. Their teacher, much to their chagrin, assigned timed essays for homework virtually every night for the past several weeks. The time she gave them was 5 minutes shorter than on the actual test, so when the kids got into the testing room today, they all felt very good about the pacing. Hands did cramp up, though!

S thinks he got a 4 or a 5 on AP Lang, and ditto for AP Bio. He thinks his classmates may have prepped for the essays to the detriment of the MCs though, because he heard a lot of wailing about MC stuff.

DD18 was begging me to let her skip today’s AP English test. She has been suffering with tendinitis and writing is painful. But she got through it. Hopefully she did well.

D has stats tomorrow and she’s had a commitment every night this week until at least 9:00 so she is worried. Send good vibes tomorrow afternoon please!

Hopefully all of today’s test-takers did much better than they thought. My kids were always bad at judging that.

First IB test today for S18! Crossing fingers. We have no idea what to expect. It’s Chem so hopefully he feels good about it as he is taking the SAT2 for Chem in a couple weeks and it would be nice if he had a solid Chem exam under his belt going into that.

Good luck to all on remaining AP’s, IB’s etc. My D is done with her 3 - really no idea how she thinks she did so July will bring welcome news. Re AP lang she thought some of the MC was tricky, essays not too bad. Anyways, here’s to a good July score report! [-O<
