Congratulations @RoonilWazlib99 !
Welp, we registered S18 for the November SAT tonight. That late registration fee stung! But if it pays off via financial aid, it’ll be well worth it!

@RoonilWazlib99 congrats to your son. My S18 also got good scores on his subject tests. We already sent them to the schools that said they considered or required them. Question now is whether sending to other schools could help? Do schools that don’t list them as considered REALLY not care?
@Booajo We accidentially sent subject SAT to a school who doesnt consider them. They told us they do not even look at them.
As for retaking SAT/ACT my daughter says that 3 times is ok but beyond that it tends to be frowned upon.
Physics And Chem Subject scores in. DD is VERY happy.
FYI about that Macy’s sale - I picked up a bed-in-a-bag in TwinXL and an extra set of sheets for $47 and free shipping. The $8.99 sheets were in colors that might be more suitable for a girl - pink, lavender and teal. I stepped up to $13.99 for navy gingham. The bed-in-bag has a navy comforter that reverses to red, and nautical striped sheets with both red and blue stripes.
Sale continues tomorrow.
The Croscill set I’ve been eying for our master bedroom is the lowest I’ve ever seen it, but someone spilled a box of nails on a street near us and we drove through them with both cars. Four new tires on one car and one tire on the other car, so new stuff for the MBR will have to wait.
@rhandco, based on what you said, it sounds like your son’s inconsistent grades have more to do with his HS’ failure to adequately support his specialized learning needs than a lack of maturity on his part. In case you don’t know (but you probably do), there is a CC forum for learning challenges. I wonder whether someone there could recommend a college that would be a great fit for your S because it would have the right kind of challenging learning environment he needs since he is so smart, plus the kind of support he needs for his learning issues, plus a great career development office that would work with him early on to identify the kinds of careers he would like and be good at and would have an atmosphere that he could thrive in.
My only thought is that there are lots of ways to get to the same outcome and some ways will be better for your son than others. I’m specifically thinking about one of my relatives who started off college at a big, top ranked school in computer science and hated it because she felt lost. She ended up switching to a small technical college and studied CS there, and loved it. She did much better there because the classes were much smaller and she didn’t have to take a lot of classes that didn’t interest her and weren’t relevant to CS. She graduated a couple of years ago and has a great job. On the other hand, I’m under the impression that some of the large public universities have great support systems for kids who have specialized learning needs, so if he could get set up with a good plan, maybe that would be a better fit? Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Thanks @DiotimaDM I was looking online too for Macy’s One Day Sale deals. DD is so frugal and said why do I need to get her brand new sheets and comforters for her dorm. I explained that the dorm beds are Twin XL. She said she can just use what she has — full size. Ahhhh thank God for such a frugal D but sometimes I want her to “spend a little bit”.
@DiotimaDM , thanks for the reminder about Macy’s and so sorry about your cars! :-<
Plus, in terms of a comforter, you want something that will stand up to people sitting on the bed, people eating on the bed, etc. I’d rather buy a cheaper comforter just for college than use a nice one from home that will be abused, lol.
Congratulations @Veronica02 for hitting submit. My D has also struggled with the essay but I think it is done and hopefully she will have hit the magic submit button by the end of the weekend.
Congratulations @apraxiamom on the scholarship. Hope we all get to post such news down the road.
@apraxiamom as for retaking SAT I actually tried to discourage D from taking again. She got 1490 first time and I felt hey that’s good, right. She insisted she wanted to try again. Got result yesterday. Score went up, and she got 800 in Math. I am blown away. She kept saying ‘I just knew I could do better’. Sometimes I think they know better than us.
D FINALLY hit submit on CA for Purdue! Had a really great visit to Ohio U. yesterday so now need to work on HTC app for there. Taking Senior pics today. Making progress!
Accepted to the University of Kansas, applied on Thursday night and got a decision Saturday morning…surprised it was such a fast decision
Congrats @verbal572 on Kansas! <:-P Gotta love those fast turn arounds!
@verbal572 Congrats! Very exciting. Can’t wait for my D to get the first one - will take some of the pressure off.
Just got back from the last College visit for D…until she has accepted student days to attend in the Winter/Spring.
Back to writing essays for her now! She has 3 applications submitted (2 CA and 1 Coalition App). 4 more EA apps due by 11/1 and then she is on to her remaining RDapps…and a few big scholarship apps. About a month ago I thought she would never finish all of her essays so she is making progress!
Same @3CollegeMom - I think my daughter will feel better once she hears from SOMEONE.
@Veronica02 congrats on getting a click on the old submit button. I’m still waiting here. Deadline is 10 days away and I’m worried and upset that my D will use every day of those 10 days. >:P
@verbal572 congrats. A 2 day decision and the decision coming on a Saturday? Wow! =D>
@sushiritto and everyone else with kids submitting apps on the Nov. 1 deadline, I know I’m preaching to the choir but definitely try to get the kids to submit a few days early. Every year there seems to be an issue with submissions through the Common App for Nov. 1 deadlines - the site being down, etc. We had weird issues for an October 15 deadline, a date that I think is less common.
Signed,
A parent trying to get my kid to submit early apps this weekend
That is great advice. I hope my kid follows it.
@daffodilpetunia where is the “love” button? I can’t agree more!!! But I’m afraid it will be 11:58 on Oct 31… the 1 minute “early” will be done to accommodate my concerns. Ha!
Thanks for the timely PSA @suzy100 ! As luck would have it my D emerged from her lair this evening to announce that she was ready to hit submit on her Common App!! Well, almost… remember what I said about limping over the finish line… After printing out the review copy she realized she needs to stop in to the GC to ask a question about a nit-picky little piece of her app. Plus she has one school we are visiting next weekend that needs a “Why school X?” statement (not full essay, just a sentence or two) and she wants to do that after we’ve visited. AND she’s decided to wait until at least Monday to see if her English teacher gives her back her essay with any feedback. She’s only got 1 EA school with an 11/1 deadline (not the one we need to visit), the rest are 11/15, so worst case scenario she submits that one only on Monday with the essay as it is now, then waits a few more days to hopefully get feedback on her essay before submitting the rest.
Or maybe the worst case scenario is the teacher gives her feedback on Monday and she has to spend more time on revisions!! X_X :!!
So yep, done, but not quite done, around here. Bright side, she’s on track to get things in on time! (Always look on the bright side right?!)
@melvin123 shhh don’t tell them but I think they actually have until 11:59 on 11/1
