Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

@suzy100 - I didn’t consider that. Sounds like a decent workaround. Thanks!!

@verbal572 it took a few days for our UMCP status to change to complete after all pieces showed as received. Now we’re hoping a late LOR shows up as received since it was sent a few weeks ago.

@sushiritto - same here, somehow the importance of the PSAT slipped past us however we did get clued in to SAT ll’s. Not sure how that happened. Our school publishes a guide by grade level but somehow we spaced out on the paragraph on PSAT. Such a bummer b/c one of D’s top schools gives a nice scholi for NMF :frowning:

@lifegarding - D is still chasing an LOR too. She’s been checking the CA everyday, not wanting to pester her in person, but the 11/1 deadline is looming! Finally she asked and the teacher yesterday and she said, don’t worry I’ll upload by the deadline. Ugh. Nothing like making us sweat it out. :expressionless:

Ugh - Naviance says a transcript has only been requested but my daughter swears CC has sent all the transcripts.
I certainly hope she did. Now I have to call in the morning to verify because my daughter refuses to ask again. Grr.

Of course, it’s the one school that the portal isn’t working. Sheesh.

@RoonilWazlib99 I don’t understand why changes can’t be made but I really hope things work out.

Took a peek at D’s unofficial transcript and the high school classes taken in middle school are all there.

@LMHS73 Congratulations to your D!

Sorry. Newbie errors and I don’t even know how it happened. Late night is my excuse.

Whew! S18 submitted ED, 2 EA and a rolling application last night. We were shocked - thought he’d go right up to the deadlines. Now we can all try and think about something else for a few weeks.

HI. New to this group, but not to this process or CC . I’ve had multiple kids go through this process, but despite my knowledge that it really doesn’t matter where you go, I’m suddenly filled with anxiety for my kid. He is so nervous that he hasn’t hit send yet on his applications. He finished his ED and one EA but still has another EA to do. Its excruciating. Plus he has so much homework this year (and the extracurriculars ) I hate to push him too much on anything. The challenge is that we think he has a really strong shot at his ED so it feels like a waste of time doing 9 other applications, but there are no guarrantees in selective college admissions. TGIF.

@mstomper, since you have Fordham on the list, has he looked at U Scranton, it’s a Jesuit school.

@verbal572 - yes the completed date showed up later on UMDCP application

Our HS transcript doesn’t list HS courses taken in middle school. Now what? :frowning:

@Pri930, for the transcript issue I’m sure this must have come up for your school before; best to check with the GC and find out how to send info on high school courses taken in middle school.

@Kayak24 you know your kid, but mine would probably do best with minimal prep and maximum confidence (so I would just tell him “YOU GOT IT! You always rock these tests”) and then see how November would go.

We were not planning on having S take any SAT subject tests, but then he got excited about Stanford so we did have him take them in October. It wasn’t perfect because he was 5 months from chemistry, but I’m pretty sure he still did well enough that scores will be a help not a hindrance. He did very little prep (maybe 2 hours total). He did take AP chem test in May, but like I said, many months ago. But we got some free score reports for SAT since they are all bundled!

Not that he has done his REA to Stanford yet–due November 1, so “plenty of time” says he. I just woke him up (day off today) to get cracking.

@mommdc, he wouldn’t have Fordham as first choice if it were anywhere besides NYC.

Hooray! 2 applications submitted! You will all understand this…I feel like she’s dragged her feet on this, she feels like she’s early. Whatever. Still debating whether to plan a nice New Years trip, or whether that time needs to be reserved for the remaining applications.

Congrats @melvin123 FWIW, we booked a trip for the 1st week of January, because I know D will take it up to the wire.

At this point, I’m both angry and depressed, because D still has submitted “squat.” Just yesterday, she asked me to review a small part of her essay. She can go to our local CC, whatever. 8-|

Looks like ds will be submitting his McDermott application the late evening of 11-1 (early consideration deadline is 11-2) Why so late since the application is complete and essays are done??? Because he wants to include a picture form an event on 10/31 in the video! X_X

@lifegarding @Pri930 thats a relief thank you.

@lifegarding Hoping all goes well with the late LOR

Today’s worry at the ShrimpBurrito house:

D got an email from U of Toronto yesterday, encouraging her to apply before Nov 1. Admissions is rolling and spots fill up quickly, they say. This is her fourth favorite college, and it’s a big step down to her fifth favorite. She has already completed applications for McGill and UBC, and logically they should accept her, but omg what if they don’t?? I know we can’t count on a USC acceptance. It would be a no-brainer-just-do-the-Toronto-app, but there’s a $180 application fee! And, when she started to fill it out weeks ago, she was stumped on the first page. Citizenship/residency issues, with no easy way to find answers. It will be a very expensive, time-consuming headache to do the application, and we can’t decide if it’s worth it.

$180 application fee is outrageous. I really think that is awful.
