My personal opinion is that if you have both ACT scores and SAT scores to show, the SAT 2s really don’t matter. But if you only have SAT scores, the SATs 2 are better to include. Its just a second set of standardized tests that help validate the good results. They know that some kids will do well on one test and not the other kind. If you can show 35 ACT and 1550 SAT - you are a great test taker. It shows you do well on all kinds of tests.
I think when comparing lots of good students the SAT2s are just another reference point, but certainly not essential.
@ShrimpBurrito, we sent the official subject test scores.
Does anyone know, if D is uploading “talent” videos via Slideroom or to portals, is there somewhere to put some kind of introduction or explanation? We can’t find any such thing. I guess we’ll just name the videos as descriptively as we can, unless anyone here has other tips.
D18 was accepted yesterday to her #1 choice even though supposedly they weren’t going to make decisions until early applications closed on Dec 1! We just accepted the offer and paid the $100 fee today. She wanted to be done with it! She is happy! Considering she only applied to 2 schools she is very happy!
Congrats @shelleee !
@AmyBeth68 - Temple’s early action deadline has passed, but they do rolling admissions until Feb. 1, so she should have plenty of time. My older D attends & is very happy there!
Huge congrats go out to so many today: @Kayak24 @GertrudeMcFuzz @RoonilWazlib99 @Disneyfan3 @gettingschooled @lifegarding @shelleee !! <:-P <:-P <:-P I love all the awesome news!!
And really, so happy for those of you that are now DONE with this process! Amazing!
Those of you pondering “to apply or not to apply” without the subject tests, I say go for it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Thanks @pickledginger she has indicated she will apply to “a few” CSUs and SDSU is one of them so that is good info!
She has settled on a major as well: Hospitality management or similar. She thinks she wants to go into event planning/management. So we’re cautiously happy that she’s picked a direction to point in for now, but interestingly this is a major that NONE of her favorite schools offer. So she has been busily figuring out what they do have that would work. Mostly, it’s business management that she’s focused on. But since deciding to focus on the CSUs and eliminating the essays she has been a lot happier. Hopefully she will just get it done, and we can relax and enjoy her week off from school.
=)) Nah, it’s going to be a last minute, oh yeah I still need to fill that out, kinda thing.
@GertrudeMcFuzz two of my daughter’s were admitted, it’s a great school. You definitely can’t go wrong
One fear my daughter had before accepting, and it’s too late now because she already accepted, was, will accepting affect her scholarship offers from the college negatively? I told her that would be awful if that was the case and I don’t think it should have any impact positively or negatively on her scholarship offers from the college whether she has or hadn’t accepted the offer of admission. What do you think? I know one of the scholarship offers from the college of engineering likely won’t come until March (at least that’s when that offer came for D16). The scholarship offers came in stages- with admissions offers or shortly after, and then additional scholarships from the colleges in March.
@shelleee I don’t about scholarships but that’s one of my fears. I could not find any compelling reason for DS to go ahead and accept before April so he’s holding off. They don’t know it’s the ONLY school he applied too;-)
DS got his first honors college acceptance today (University of Louisville).
@shelleee I sure hope not. DS submitted a refundable enrollment deposit for his #1 choice, mainly to secure housing. His #1 is not feasible without a big scholarship so hopefully they won’t assume that he is a sure thing and that he won’t need merit money.
In other excitement, DS received an AES Honors scholarship from UTD. Full tuition and fees along with $3000/semester stipend. It is currently his most affordable choice and moves it up in contention.
@shelleee - congrats on the AES scholarship. How did your son find out that he got it? Did he receive a letter or something in the mail or find out on his UTD portal?
@LMHS73 He got an email today.
Woohoo! More congrats for @LOUKYDAD and @S18D20mom !! <:-P <:-P <:-P
@S18D20mom - Thank you & sorry, my congrats should have been directed your way. @shelleee, I probably owe you a congratulations for something else anyway!!
Congrats to everyone getting good news the last few days; it’s nice to see all the kids’ hard work paying off!
Welcome, lurkers. Please feel free to chime in anytime. We 2018 parents have been a group that embraces all contributors. We don’t always have time to keep up as I suspect you don’t either, but know that your input, concerns, questions or general musings will be welcome here.
The more the merrier!
Congrats on the all the accceptances!
The accept question is one I do not understand.
DD has been accepted to UTD. I told her to go online and accept the offer. Is that the wrong thing to DO?
We will have paid no deposit, so changing our mind, if DD is accepted with adequate funding to one of her more preferred schools, cann’t we just tell UTD in April, thank you but we won’t be coming… Thats how I viewed the process.
DD still has another dozen schools to apply for, with UTD her safety. Do we accept the UTD offer of admissions now or wait until April at the end of the process?
