Fifty degrees and cloudy here and we’re almost finished raking up the leaves.
When I walked the dogs this morning frost was covering the grass and fallen leaves.
It was pretty to look at, but it was not fun when I had to try to clear the car windshield in a hurry to get D to the SAT on time. I didn’t plan for that.
Had empty nest syndrome last night. The youngest (6) had his first overnight Cub Scout camp out. I picked him up today. Other than 30 bug bites and broken glasses (yay for unused ‘17 vision benefits!), the little S had a great time! I had more tears last night than he did.
S18 is still at the same camp out, which is one reason Georgia Tech paragraph still hasn’t been finished. Georgia Virtual has semester course finals this week, so I’m really not expecting Tech to be finished and submitted before next weekend. Deadline is 1/1.
Glad the mascot kitten is doing well! Can we name it App, for application?
First acceptance came today from McDaniel College with a 25K scholarship. He barely had time to look at it before leaving for a party at a friend’s house. He’s just the third in his big circle of friends with an acceptance in hand. He noticed the hand written note from the Dean of Admissions, which I thought was a nice touch.
I have a link to share with kitty pics if anyone wants to see them. You’ll have to PM me, though, since I’m not allowed to post it.
Re: kitty’s name - C.A.T. for Common Application Time? We’re not sure if it’s a boy or a girl yet, but I’ve been saying “he” because S has been calling him “Tim”, as in Tiny Tim from A Christmas Carol. Had it been me, I might have called him 'Neezer.
Great weather here too. S18 and my spouse are off auditioning for music schools. She rarely leaves town, and my younger son is busy with friends this weekend so I find myself with a lot of time on my hands. Chores are done. Exercised. Dog has been played with. Football and soccer watched. Only thing left to do is to watch the movies she will never sit through with me. Except most of them are scary!
@vistajay That sounds like a nice day. My mom wants me to see a Handel and Gretel opera and I said I’d rather watch a nice disaster movie. I haven’t watched something scary in a long time.

In between little jobs today, I was lying on the couch watching George Gently. I love Acorn TV for British detective shows.
@amominaz my D submitted her USC app in the evening on 11/28. Early on 11/30 she received the email confirmation from USC and logged on and it showed all components had been received including the supplement. Since she submitted a few days early I’m not sure if this info helps you but fingers crossed all is OK. Why don’t you email your local rep and ask?
Congrats @mstomper !! <:-P <:-P <:-P So nice they included a personal note! I hope my D gets one of those as well, such a nice touch! Though the merit money is pretty nice too amiright? $-)
Thanks everyone, for your congrats and nice words, love this group! :x
@MACmiracle , my favorite was the original Rupenzal (sp?) where she gets pregnant and the witch rips out her beau’s eyes and they wander endlessly in the desert. Birth control 18th century style.
We finally went for a visit/tour to University of Delaware!
My DD loved it. Our guide was a female Chemical Engineering major, very sweet. My DD related to her and felt very comfortable and asked lots of questions. Evidently there’s a lot of opportunity for undergrad research :).
We like it too. Very clean, the students looked nice (some rowdy male students walked by and instead of being disrespectful, they literally yelled, “Come to the University of Delaware!”).
UDel is now a viable option. Her first love has been our in-state UMD, but she won’t find out until February 1. WVU is also up there, and is showing her lots of love $$$ and she is already accepted to the Honors College and Engineering program.
Hopefully UDel will also give some merit $, I think she’ll get some based on her stats. Otherwise I don’t know if it’s a practical choice.
We may need to go back to UMD to ask more specific questions about undergrad research opportunities, etc.
@AmyBeth68, other Delaware peeps, interested in your thoughts!
@astro77 So glad she liked it! I forget your D’s stats but I believe she will get $13-15,000 based on what I’m seeing. We’re still waiting on merit but that is the highest automatic award. She will also have a great shot at Honors Program which is one of the top programs nationwide. The final Piece of the puzzle is Distinguished Scholars which is similar to Chancellor at Pitt. It’s an invitation to interview, I believe essays are involved etc. The kids won’t hear about that until February I believe… Last year it looked like students with a 35+ were invited but it’s not automatic, awards are full tuition. Good luck… The ChemE program at Udel is fabulous. Dupont family has made sure of that!
Here we are at the pediatrician office. All little S has wanted to do is sleep last night and today. Might be all the bug bites from Friday’s campout. This behavior is not normal for him. I’d rather this be nothing than ignore it.
