Oh that’s really cool!
I know many of you are waiting on ED/EA and all the best to all the kiddos.
My question is after you get in ED - how to go about withdrawing other applocations? Any one with prior experience?
My D18 only did a few EA to some state schools and the ED to CMU. She was going to apply to other colleges if rejected in the ED. But now that she is in, what is the procedure to be followed? Is the withdraw done by the counselor? Sorry totally clueless.
Hi, I just posted this over at the Pitt board but D’s merit award finally arrived.
$15,000/year (Dietrich), in-state, Chancellors invite (EXTREMELY competitive but would cover room, board, fees, study abroad stipend, etc.). Full tuition for her major is $18,130 so I guess I can’t complain. Now we wait on ED Friday to put things in better perspective.
@Kayak24 - Congrats on the merit aid! Fantastic news!
@Pri930 - there is most likely a link to cancel her application within the individual school’s portals. D’s friend that was admitted early last week cancelled all her other apps that way.
YAY @Kayak24!
@Kayak24 I’m so glad you got that wonderful news from Pitt.
My D was chosen as an alternate for a competitive scholarship competition. It’s doubtful that she’ll be called in but still of a bit of an affirmation since there were 700 kids who applied.
I think she got another admission letter but I will wait for her to open it. :-w
@kayak24 that’s absolutely amazing news! Congratulations, what a wonderful award. Good luck on the Chancellor. My D submitted her essays a few weeks ago… I’m not expecting much but you never know.
@Kayak24, congrats to your daughter on the merit award!!!
@pri930 My son also was accepted to his ED, but I am awaiting something in writing (he was called by admissions counselor) and we are also awaiting the official financial aid package - his school supposedly meets 100% of need and I am divorced so the Net Price Calculator is not going to be totally accurate for me PLUS the school also considers CSSprofile and NCP CSSprofile.
I think to withdraw, you will have to email each school to let them know that you are withdrawing the application if you want to move forward to accept AND you can afford the ED school with the aid package presented.
I am not experienced so I will be following.
Thanks, everyone! @AmyBeth68 and any other Pitt families…I just googled something about Pitt Chancellors trying to learn more about it and came across an alarming article from Oct 2017 titled, “Pitt chancellor warns tuition hike possible midyear.” I can’t link to it but I think we all may want to read it (and anyone else looking at PA state schools, though I’m sure other states may have the same funding concerns).
@davidpuddy There is a portal for Trinity, but I do not know if the acceptance will appear there on Friday. Their website said EA notifications would be by December 15. We did not show them any love, we never took an official visit or anything, I give it a 50/50 or DD.
@Clementine7624 - My son is also waiting on DU EA today. As far as too much winter, it was a golf weekend here in Northern Colorado! High 50’s low 60’s! Winter has yet to arrive!
@jpc763 How do we know it’s coming today? (And by we, I mean, my daughter…) Did your son get an email that results would be posted today/tonight?
@MomOutWest - Just speculation from the DU page here. Based on last year, ED was last Monday and EA is this Monday. after 5PM. The website said sometime this week.
FYI someone reported getting their EA acceptance to Trinity today on the Trinity forum. Last year they came out over a 2-3 day span, I think. Here we go!
So exciting waiting on these admissions this week! I don’t know how you all can stand the wait. We have to wait until January, but D’s bf applied REA to ND and those are supposedly coming out today. I’m excited for him! Good Luck to all those anxiously waiting!
Can I have a poll? Are your Valedictorians chosen EXCLUSIVELY by GPA? Or are there other factors?
At our public high school (2200 students) valedictorians are chosen exclusively by GPA. All 4.0 students are “valedictorian” regardless of course rigor. There are usually about 10-15 each year give or take.
Our high school…a little over 1200 students…chooses one Valedictorian and one Salutatorian based solely on weighted GPA so that factors in the rigor of course load. The top 15 students are awarded “Distinguished Scholars”.
Public high school here with approx. 2400 kids. No valedictorian or salutatorian. They do a Latin honors system now and the students pick a graduation class speaker.
3.5-3.74 - cum laude
3.75-3.89 - magna cum laude
3.9-4.0 - summa cum laude
The school does not weight any courses. They also don’t rank or give a percentile.
