These lists are stressing me out! OK, they are actually helpful. I’m going to just make sure the school sends her transcript and then get through graduation before thinking about the rest of this stuff. It’s going to be a hectic month and summer.
Re: driving, we practice in the cemeteries because, you know, it is difficult to hurt anyone else there, and not much traffic.
@mom888 , my D15 is in Thematic Option at USC and loves it! The writing emphasis of the program has really turned her into a fine writer, and she loves the engaging subjects of the classes as well as the teachers.
Congrats to all on the exciting decisions!
Duplicate post - Oops - Good morning, hope y’all are having a great Monday!
DDs list includes getting her wisdom teeth removed. Yay!
After all the crazy stress of last month’s year-end EC finales, which caused my D to miss school on about half the days in the month, it just seems so quiet, stress-free, and anti-climatic. And that’s with 5 APs coming up, but for her, she’s been able to get sleep, glorious sleep, and that makes all the difference in the world.
Your lists make me tired
I’ve got some dorm shopping to do and need to get the dental visit scheduled, other than that, I believe we have crossed everything off.
Couple of things:
Does homeowners cover dorm contents? When DS went to college it did, I am wondering if something has changed.
I was reading up on the Meningitis strainB vaccine - its brand new - I need to discuss with my physician as I’m very cautious with “new” vaccines but Meningitis is nothing to mess with.
Its funny when people ask me where DD is heading, I say Alabama and before I get the Huntsville part out of my mouth, their eyes are already dreaming of attending a Bama game… It makes me laugh
I for one am thankful that DD has chosen UAH, they don’t have football therefore there is no conflict with our family alliance to the Nevada Wolfpack! In our house we bleed silver and blue - Go Pack!
Nev doesn’t have mens hockey, we are golden all the way around - Wooowhoooo!
Teach them to cook simple meals and do laundry!?! I’m a lazy Mom, I did that years ago - pretty much as soon as they could reach the knobs on the washer and the stove, they were put to work.
I’ve heard about people (who aren’t 100% sure due to money, or other reasons) sending in deposits to various schools, in order to hold their spot, keep their options open past the May 1 deadline. Has anyone else heard of this?
@Meddy - Same with @shrimpburrito, it depended on the communication. Where the ties were not as close and he could decline in the online portal, he did that. At two schools where he was close to the AC, he contacted them directly + the coaches to let them know. It’s hard!
@icbihtsu Placing a deposit at ONE school, and then withdrawing enrollment because of placement on a waitlist is o.k. Anything else is typically a violation of the enrollment agreement, and you is grounds for both schools to rescind acceptances. And of course, lose the deposit. If there is one school you really want to hold open an option for, you could ask them to extend the enrollment deadline.
@SnowflakeDogMom, I think our homeowner’s insurance might cover it, but the deductible would be higher. I got inexpensive coverage (less $100 for a year,) for my D, and it covers her phone and laptop (up to $3,000).

Now that she is going to be living off campus I need to get liability coverage as well.
The Meningitis B vaccine has been available in the US for a few years. My D got it 3 years ago before she went to college.
Just testing to see if I still have my avi.
Double post. But I do!
Deposit finally paid - S chose Brandeis!
Son is super cranky today. Some of it is aimed at me.
Forget the sappy posts where I moan about him leaving. The nest is soiled!
Those of you removing your kid from your auto insurance when they leave for college; what about when they come back for breaks? How are they covered then?
@amominaz - Check with your agent - some policies offer a discount if student will be living at school and only driving on breaks.
For DS English class the parents are supposed to write a letter to our child. It is the culminating piece to a semester long project of poetry they have been writing reflecting on their childhood and high school years. Man… it’s a tough assignment!
Thanks @Momma2018 - I will do that!
Another question for you folks - are you getting a Power of Attorney and Healthcare Power of Attorney for your kids? If your kids are going OOS, are you getting one for your home state as well as the OOS?
@TexasMom18 - I hate that kind of thing! Why are they making the parents do work? For a culminating piece, let the kids write something. That kind of assignment makes me so angry - its such a cop out for the teacher. They don’t have to grade a last project now. Let the kids write a letter to their parents! We would actually appreciate a letter from them and I bet most don’t know how to write a decent letter. Always good to practice.
