Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

My D had some professors that required the online access code. For some books she could buy used and buy the code separately, for some it was cheaper to buy the book new with the code included. And some she rented from Amazon or BN.

Who’s waiting for AP scores?

College Board doesn’t release them until tomorrow, but students may be able to view them as transfer credits through their university portals.

S was able to see his today by logging in to his UNM dashboard. Looks like he got a 5 on AP Lit and a 3 on AP Calc AB. He’s surprised and a bit disappointed about the 3, but it gave him the credit he needs so he’s fine with it overall.

His final tally is three 5s, two 4s and one 3.

Happy 4th to everyone!

DD arranged to have her AP scores sent automatically to her college. They may use them for placement, but not for credits.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!

Sneaky @DiotimaDM, sneaky. Love it!

Yes UCLA did the same, posted on their dashboard yesterday. The only meaningful one is the 5 on Calc BC, which gives S18 credit for a needed math course, but he was a bit annoyed with his 4 in AP Eng Lit. The rest give general credit that most likely won’t be used. His final tally was eight 5s, one 4 and one 3.

Had some happy kiddos this morning. DS crushed has last 4 APs - 5s on Calc BC, Chemistry, APES and AP Gov. DD20 “passed” both AP World and AP Eng Lang with a 3 and a 4, so she is now an AP Scholar.

That 5 on Calc BC surprised DS because it was an independent study with zero live instruction. 100% online (Kahn academy stuff I think, I don’t even know). DS was doubting himself because of some material he never quite got to but apparently it didn’t drag down his score. He finished with 8 “5s”, 4 “4s”, and 1 “3”.

I found out S’s score today. I’ll let you know after he gets home. The aptrevor Twitter thread is very helpful.

DD ended up with 5s in Micro, Macro, Language&Comp and Psych and 4s in Bio, Upush and Literature & Comp.
So she ended up with 31 credits at Clemson and many general education requirements out of the way.

This also gives her sophomore status for picking spring classes and more importantly football tickets…lol…

Yeah @DiotimaDM , the credits showed up on David Puddy Jr.s Alabama portal yesterday too, even though we are in the final release group from AP.

I don’t think it was listed (and we did not take the time to see if we could determine) the actual scores. But it appears he got credit for all the tests, which is what matters. Is he a sophomore now with over 30 credits ? :))

S got a 4 on Calculus AB. He only needed a 3 to exempt the intro math. His schedule has also been revised to reflect a dual philosophy-German major. He’s in a 200 English (possibly because of SAT scores?), philosophy, theology German 101 (to change if he tests out) and a science survey.

DD was able to see her scores today and she was very pleased. She ended up with 5’s on Chem, Psych, Physics 1, Calc and Enviro Science. She only got a 3 on the Lit exam, but considering she had a 102 degree fever that day, we will take it.

S got a 5 in Psych and 4 in Human Geo. He was surprised, since he thought he bombed Psych and did really well on Human Geo. All together he basically has a semester’s worth of general ed classes done.

Waiting to hear from S18 on his AP scores but earlier this week we were at UCSB for orientation and he signed up for classes. He is taking 4 for a total of 12 units, which is what they recommended for the first quarter so he can get used to the pace, college life, etc. And then the second quarter they say the average units are 15. Met a lot of really nice people and continue to feel great about the school!

@droppedit The glider sounds amazing - Skydiving scares the crap out of me, I’ve told my kids they can’t do it until I am dead :wink: We lived in Reno for 20 years, we were up at the top of Heavenly once and were watching the para-gliders jump…{{shudder}}
Tahoe is a tough view to beat.

I’m so excited to get back her and read about all the AP success. Yay for all our amazing kudos!

Sadly, I was looking up the credit equivalents for D’s AP and dual enrollment earlier and now I’m wondering if it was worth the money. It’s not going to help that much beyond free electives and there are not many of those between the engineering curriculum and the requirements for the honors college. And she wants those “free elective” credits to spend on things like philosophy and neuroscience.

D is flying alone this weekend to get to a week long summer program–as a passenger and not jumping out! I’m already missing her and thinking of you who will soon have to say good-bye for a much longer time.

D was awarded her International Baccalaureate Diploma!!! After seven years of incredible stress and rigor. She cannot stop dancing! Lol!

My wife went sky diving for her 30th birthday. I politely declined to join her.

@DavidPuddy – D18 also saw her Bama portal update the other day. She has 32 credits and a sophomore ranking. Her AP scores came in today. She got a 5 on AP Lit and 4 on the others (Psych and BC). Of course, there was no prep for any of them. At some point, this I’m going to take tests without prep to see what I score mindset is going to burn her.

Anyway, high school is finally completely done!

S18 scores officially came in today. He did get a 4 in AP Calculus AB. I had no reason to doubt the other site, but it’s good to get official confirmation.

My D received her scores today too, and it was really nice to receive such good news. I feel like the last door to HS has now closed. Getting the scores was such a weird feeling because on the one hand we’re very happy for her that she did so well (all 5s), but on the other hand they don’t really impact her. Her college doesn’t give credit for APs, and the only impact they will have on her is that one from last year and one from this year will allow her to start off on the intermediate sequence for some requirements. I’m still really proud of her for studying so hard when she knew there was nothing in it for her, because she wanted to get a good score for her teachers since their compensation is impacted by how well their students score on the APs.
