Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

@TwinMom2023 It’s not too late for Furman. We buy gear and a Christmas ornament at every school as a souvenir of the college journey.

D19 hit submit on the last two apps yesterday (Elon and VT). She has been making some noise about applying RD to couple California schools (Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount and U of San Diego) but I don’t see it happening and I’m not going to push. No way I want her that far away.
So, now we play the waiting game.

@Acersaccharum and @eh1234 our D applied to Ithaca as well! Was thinking she would hear back in December but great to hear they move the applications along. Look into their leadership grants!

@DCNatFan You know we love Elon. We’re 15 mins. away!

@EENYMum The leadership grant looks like it would help a lot - if only my son had a demonstrated record of leadership. Good luck to your D!

The big hurdle for my S19 will be the audition - this is probably his biggest reach from a talent perspective and I would be floored (and thrilled) if he actually got in.

Two more portfolio submissions (JMU and VCU) must get done today in order to (a) be submitted in time for the scholarship deadline and (b) be submitted in time for the upcoming/already scheduled interviews/portfolio reviews.

And of course it is tech weekend, with opening night of the show on Thursday.

@TwinMim2023 – we have bought a folder at most schools. So it is a minimal investment of less than $2. :))

She is applying to 12 schools (down from a total of 16). No gear yet until she gets decisions from all schools.

Does she at least get today off @orangefish?

S19 will be at school 14 hours a day all week (pit orchestra for show opening Thursday), but they didn’t want the musicians for tech week over the weekend. Which is good because he had regional orchestra Thursday night, all day Friday and yesterday!

I’m glad it’s early in the new quarter because I’m not sure how much homework is getting turned in on time this week. I don’t know how the theater kids do this for extended periods - mine is already feeling run down with a cold so it’s going to be a looong week.

@eh1234 – she is not off today. She was in tech until 7 pm on Friday, then all day yesterday (9 - 6), and all day today.(10 - 7). And as you know, they have school tomorrow, so dress rehearsal runs from 3 - 9 PM. So far they have an off day on Wednesday, so I’m guessing schoolwork will fit in there.

I hope your son gets some rest in there somewhere!

First time posting on this thread. My stubborn DS (3.45W and 1280SAT) only wants to apply to 2 schools. (WVU & JMU). WVU is his preference and he was accepted this week, with written confirmation of merit coming in December. Anyone else here have a kid who won’t consider more than 1-2 schools? This is quite a change from his old sister, currently a 2nd year, who had applied to 8 schools. I should be happy not to have so many apps but makes me nervous that he may completely change his mind in 6 months, merit doesn’t work out, etc.

Welcome @kathyrain ! Be on the lookout for @Gatormama as I think her D19 applied to two (or maybe three?) schools. Her D is also WVU bound!

Thanks @OrangeFish I hope to see a @Gatormama response!

@kathyrain If I had one acceptance at a school that was preferred, I would be fine. Both of mine went ED at the last minute and I have frittered away money on ‘just in case’ apps. The money really could have been put to better use!

@Acersaccharum
Congrats!

Question:
My daughter says it is unnecessary to check the portals as she will find out via mail or e mail. True? Her EA schools were: Drexel, Univ of Denver, Western Washington (which Eandesmon already told me about), Point Loma, Vermont and Ohio Wesleyan.
Anyone know? I assume she is correct and the portal might just be a day or two earlier?

A salute to anyone who is a Veteran!

Congrats on all of the acceptances!

@kathyrain my D’19 applied to three schools and has been accepted to all 3 and I believe we are done. In her case it was a matter of very few schools meeting her specific desires and budget. If your son has an acceptance he is happy with and can afford, it is nice to just be done and enjoy the rest of the year!

She bought a shirt at 4 of the schools she visited. She likes college gear in general, but only bought if she liked the school pretty well.

Her musical is over- she is doing strike and cast party this afternoon. This was the first time she got sentimental about leaving HS because this is her thing. It was a really good musical and I’m glad it went off well for her.

@bjscheel
That all sounds great!!

S has his first acceptance! He checked the Temple portal today and it said he was accepted. He’s happy and I’m relieved.

@bjscheel how fun to be in a musical. I have talent envy! This year really is flying by and I’m sure she has made some close friends.

I might have to by a tee shirt for each of their ED schools to have on hand. It would probably be worth the fun and surprise. If they don’t get it, I’ll send to someone on CC. I think we have all schools covered. :smiley:

@me29034
Yeah! My D has applied to Drexel and she may apply to Temple RD if things do not go as well as hoped once we get results back from her EA schools. What were your son’s stats? Why did he apply to Temple? Any merit?
Thanks!
